Knock around you character ideas here if you wish. If you're going to roll attributes, please do so in this thread.

From the game description:

Creation using 27 point buy or 4d6 per attribute - your choice. If you roll 4d6 please do so in the ‘Character Creation’ forum so the rest of us can either congratulate you on your awesome rolls or make fun of your rotten luck. (We can talk re-rolls if you end up with three or more attributes with negative modifiers).

Standard starting equipment with the exception of coinage. You’ll have just enough to get a meal at "The Broken Spoon" and then you’ll be broke!

I only have PHB as far as classes, races, and backgrounds go, so if you want to use something else and can point me to a PDF or something I’m good with it.

Well I just love making characters, and I love random methods, so I'm going to start rolling.

Wood Elf, Barbarian Musician

HP: 12
AC: 11

STR 14
INT 13
WIS 8+1 = 9
DEX 10+2 = 12
CON 11
CHR 12

I usually use a homebrew 1d100 table to determine race (because I think some races are less likely in the world than others), but in this case, I'm not playing in my world, and I'm also playing in a bunch of other D&D5 games at the moment. I'm going to just roll a d14 (13 races, including minotaurs - I'll provide a pointer to the Unearthed Arcana pdf with minotaurs if it's selected).

6 - a wood elf! More later; I've got to stop for supper now (and will be posting to the game I'm running before I come back to char gen for this one).

Now to roll for class. There's 12 of those. 12, which would be a wizard. Just my luck: of all the 12 classes, I randomly get the one that someone else is already playing. Normally I like randomness, but I'm going to try again, rolling 2d12 to see if I can get anything other than wizard. A 1 indicates barbarian, an 11 indicates warlock. I'll go with barbarian.

Background: there are 13 of these. 4: entertainer. Type? Musician.

I don't have the PHB in front of me, so the trait, bond, ideal, and flaw will have to wait again.

I would like to try a wizard.

To get more control of being a wizard I'll roll generic groups.

Haha what are the chances....I was actually going to submit a minotaur character which I was using in a game that looks like it has died!

Valrakas the Minotaur. Built using 27 point buy. Referenced Unearthed Arcana Waterborne Adventures. Szemely, I wonder if you'll allow the harpoon stats as is or you want to tweak it because those stats are from 3.5E.

Minatour would be fine but let's keep everything to 5e for my first go at this.

Sure! Just reskin a spear or javelin then? I really like the restraining rope though. Maybe if you hit with the weapon it grants a bonus grapple check? What do you think?

Erevior is from the Sedestra, jungle elves of the sub-tropics. He played various drums for rituals and dances, from djembes to tamborines, but when traveling he carries with him his adufe: a square drum about 18" on a side, perhaps 2" thick. He and Lisandra fell in love, but, coming from a warrior culture, Erevior is expected to earn prestige through valiant deeds in battle before he can take a wife. So he has set forth to wander the world, entertaining and fighting in equal measure. Erevior esteems his tribal traditions, but he finds them hard to uphold at times, as his attitude is generally carefree and capricious.

He fell in with the party some time ago and has accompanied them down the Fairgrave Trail. Little glory has been gained, but Erevior has enjoyed the company and has seen no better prospects in any other direction. He had no way of knowing that the pretty Deerhaven barmaid was the guard captain's wife! He also doesn't see what the big fuss was about...attitudes about these things are so much more relaxed in the jungle! Seeing "The Broken Spoon" in this village, Erevior is prepared to offer some music as payment to augment their paltry resources...

Grapple bonus until the end of your next turn works for me.

Cool! How much of a bonus, exactly? :-D

I was thinking that anyone who attempted to grapple someone struck by that weapon would have an advantage on their grapple roll until the end of your next turn.

Ah. Well that works! :-) Putting it on the character sheet.

Rolled up a cleric. It says I can have a mace or warhammer. Can I exchange that for a shortsword instead?

My Forest Gnome Cleric:

Vex Speckfroth grew up on the streets of a big city. Eventually he made contacts in the dark underbelly of the city, and with his wit and charm grew to be a respectable fence. Two years ago, he was confronted by one of the crime lords in the city about an item he had taken in. He was unable to provide enough detail to satisfy the man and was severely beaten for his failure.

Beaten and left for dead he was found by a priest and brought to the temple where a cleric of the god of storms where he was narrowly pulled back from the brink of death. In the time he spent recovering at the temple he was taught much of their religion and was eventually converted. He became a full cleric just over one year ago and has left home in order to learn more of the world. He met up with the group shortly after leaving and has been traveling with them since.
