This is where you post your character concept. I would appreciate if everyone could put just one post in this thread so that I can refer back to it, just edit your post whenever you need to update something. Discussion about character choices, etc can go in the OOC thread.

For now tell me about your character; who are they? Where are they from? How did they learn their skills? At game start the character will be in Neverwinter (if you're not familiar with the Forgotten Realms setting don't worry, no prior knowledge is necessary) and will have signed up to escort a wagon to Phandalin for a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker. Please include a short (or long if you wish) RP about how you met Gundren and why you agreed to take the job.

Going to roll me some stats here: 17, 15, 11, 11, 10, 11 - Some good numbers to work with...

Gaze Embori - Human Rogue

As the youngest son of the Embori family (yes, those Embori's) Gaze would have had a life most could only dream about. With the finest educators and weapons trainers that gold could buy each and every Embori child was expected to lead newly claimed "annexations" to their father's ever expanding fiefdom. The nimble Gaze was a fine weapons student, often outshining his older siblings when it came to his mastery of weapons, but quickly grew bored of the more academic aspects of his expected duties. Eventually this lack of enthusiasm led to a falling out between him and his father who offered the young Gaze an ultimatum; "Master what you're expected to master or leave the family." Opting for the later option, Gaze 'borrowed' his eldest brother's finest rapier, and fled to Neverwinter.

While no longer a noble, he still carries himself with all of the authority and confidence that his former standing offered him. While that confidence means that he is treated well by commoners who may just assume he is a noble, the privileged life he once led is no more. To that end he has taken up work with the Rockseekers 'procuring' items for a small fee.

[I'll add some more later - probably during play]

I'm building a half elf transmutation wizard name Romero. He's been expelled from the Academy of Arcane Brotherhood in Luskan for criminal activity (running cons). The kind of guy that introduces himself with a new name every time he meets a new person, but very charismatic, with a hint of scoundrel. His favorite cons are telling someone's future while pickpocketing them, passing off cheap transmuted trinkets as rare items for sale, and forging documents. He was expelled because the activities of his mischevious quartet partnership went public when his best friend was murdered. A con went south, also leading to the incarceration of the second friend, and alienation from the third. Since then, he's not prone to loyalty. Perhaps someone(s) in the party remind him of his lost friends, and he's looking for friends to run new cons? We'll find out.

After running afoul of Ship Rethnor, Romero conned his way onto a raiding ship heading south, affiliated with Ship Taerl. The vessel came afoul of squalls in the sea, making port in Neverwinter. Seeing his opportunity to vanish, Romero slipped away and took to the streets. He attempted to pickpocket a dwarf, but his typical sleight of hand failed him that day. Where his attempt failed, his charm did not, and he was able to convince the dwarf that he had retrieved the pouch from a cutpurse. Thus we ended up sign on with a caravan headed to Phandulin, as a scout.

Spells chosen so far include
Cantrips: message, friends, prestidigitation
Level 1: catapult, charm person, disguise self, expeditious retreat, mage armor, and magic missile.

Skilled in Arcana, Deception, Investigation, Persuasion, Perception, and Sleight of Hand.

He's always been self reliant, thus the jack-of-all-trades feel. He casts Mage Armor on himself before walking out the door every day, out of habit. Tries to use his crossbow and daggers when he's in a tough spot, avoiding attack spells that could destroy his low profile.

Roran Windblade - Human Barbarian

Roran stands at 6ft 7" tall and was raised in the harsh planes of Icewind Dale. As part of his clan's tradition once a member reaches their 20th birthday they must go out into the Dale where they must gather trophies from battles or tasks that they have completed so that when they return the trophies will tell the tale of their adventure. Depending on the trophies and how the recount their tale, will depend their future standing within the clan.

Roran's father is the chief of the clan and instead of allowing Roran's older brother to take over from him once he comes of age, their father opened up the chiefdom to all 4 of his children. They are to leave Icewind Dale and travel as far or as little as they liked. They would undergo their trial and once they feel they have reached their ultimate goal they should return and recount their journey to the clan. After hearing the tale of all 4 journeys and the experiences that the siblings have encountered, their father will name his successor.

His older brother believes that being the next chief is his birth right and will do anything to stop his siblings becoming chief. Roran and he have never been close. He used to pick on his two younger brothers but since he was 15 Roran has always been able to best brother in strength contests and stands 3 inches taller.

His sister saw their fathers proclamation as her chance to rise above her station within the clan. Although she gets on with her brothers and enjoys showing how much smarter she is than them by playing tricks on them that pit them against one another, she will not let anything or anyone stand in her way.

Roran and his twin brother could not be more different. Roran has always seemed to have a naturally ability to accomplish any tasks that required strength or stamina were his twin was more adept at mental challenges. Unfortunately, being academic in a clan of barbarians, brought only scorn and dislike from the other members. Roran tried to shield his brother but he only saw this as Roran's attempt to show of his own prowess. He saw his trial as a chance for revenge on the clan that treated with such distaste.

Roran doesn't know how he feels about the possibility of becoming clan chief. He always assumed it would be his older brother of took over. He has a love of battle and although his teachers and the clan elders have tried to teach him tactic, he still tends to rush headlong into danger, relishing the challenge.

All he hopes for is to serve his clan and his chief, but maybe being in charge wouldn't be so bad......

Just rolling stats for now but will edit in with a description of the character. Hopefully, I get the rolling dice thing right...

Lia is an Elven bard--classically trained, as she is wont to remind people. Years ago, her older brother, Adran, entered into a pact with a mysterious entity in order to save their family from a band of orcs that invaded their village. He left soon after, drawn away by the thirst for power and darker magic, and Lia has heard very little from him since. In theory, she's supposed to be looking for him, but in practice, she's not putting a lot of effort into it. With a penchant for excitement and adventure, she's just in it for the good time, easily swayed by the promise of short-term gains despite any long-term consequences. Perhaps more confident than she is capable, Lia is quick to take on a challenge and makes friends almost as quickly as she loses them. There's very little she wouldn't do for gold or glory, and the more she idles away her time, the less she is able to dwell on the guilt she has over the potential fate of her brother.

Rylie Banderby: also known as Wee Lightning, Bonny-Jig, Rylie Irongut, and to only a scant few the Fleet Fox!

Stout Halfling Monk - level 1
Entertainer background

Rylie Banderby was daughter to a pair of halfling troupers (Hamish and Vya) belonging to the fabulous, magnificent famous Grelgari Traveling Circus Troupe. At least that's how ringmaster Vincenzo Grelgari always described it, though Rylie always thought the crowds seemed a bit scant for such an illustrious production. She grew up in a convoy of colorful wagons that ever rattled their way up and down the Sword Coast providing entertainment to every settlement from Luskan to Athkatla, whether they liked it or not. Since she took her first steps she was tumbling, juggling and balancing. As she got older she took up the flying trapeze, stilt-walking, fire-juggling and a variety of other daring physical feats. Though she had a talent for acrobatics, her showmanship left much to be desired. However, she was a prodigy on the bagpipes, able to play everything from spirited jigs to incite crowds to dance, to heart-wrenching dirges that brought tears to the eyes.

Though she was close to her two older brothers and parents, she considered the entire troupe to be family. She was closest to Wise Master Xingwu, an ancient sage from some far Eastern land whose name she never could pronounce. Master Xingwu was a teacher and mentor to her, educating her in literature, philosophy, and arithmetic. In her youth Rylie suffered bullying at the hands of older children, and one day she begged the Wise Master to teach her the elaborate and graceful martial forms he performed for the audiences. He consented on the condition that she never use what she learned for unjust cause, which included exacting vengeance against her tormentors. She did not understand, but agreed anyway and secretly planned her revenge. After spending her first week of training nothing but meditation techniques, she grew impatient and demanded to learn how to fight. "Fighting you are, child. A duel against your greatest foe." Over the coming weeks she came to understand that her greatest foe was herself, and from there she began to truly learn and forgot all thoughts of revenge. For months on into years she rose before the sun to train, learning to focus her will and forge her body into a weapon. Wise Master Xingwu died of old age short months after her eighteenth birthday, and Rylie was distraught and lost for a time, but tried to master herself as he had taught.

One chilly night after she'd drank a pair of farm boys under the table she was headed back to the caravan when she happened upon a group of ruffians surrounding a frightened young woman and threatening to rob her, or worse. Without a thought she called out a challenge and received derisive laughter and threats in return, and the large brutes surrounded her. The next minute was a blur that ended with the ruffians flattened across the roadside, bleeding and groaning for mercy while the now safe girl looked on in shocked amazement. Frightened but also exhilarated, Rylie pulled her orange hood down over her head and bounded off into the night without saying a word. Thus began the legend of the Fleet Fox, a mysterious small figure garbed in red that would appear out of the night to defend the innocent. Much to Rylie's wonderment and without any of her own doing the tale spread through the rural communities up and down the Sword Coast, growing more incredible with each telling. Caught up in the folk legend developing around her, she decided she would become the Fleet Fox and live by Master Xingwu's law to use her abilities only for just cause. She fashioned a costume of dark orange cloth trimmed in white with a hood and a half-mask embroidered in the image of a fox's face. Each night after the Grelgari circus was all finished she donned her costume and set to prowling the villages and towns looking for injustices to right. More often than not these adventures were uneventful, but she found excitement in them nonetheless. Once or twice she got in over her head and barely escaped with her life, but she managed to do good often enough to satisfy her conscience and keep the legend alive.

Recently the Grelgari Circus set up outside Neverwinter and tales of Wave Echo Cave and the evil deeds of the Black Spider reached Rylie's ears. She decided she simply had to investigate, but she knew that her fellow troupers and especially her parents would disapprove. So, she packed her costume and traveling gear and stole off into the night, leaving a cryptic note assuring the troupe that she loved them all and not to be worried, for she would return in time. Excited by the prospects of travel and adventure, she wasn't so sure whether she actually wanted to return, but time would tell.

Faolan Zincsmiter

Hill Dwarf War Cleric

A devout cleric to the temple of Trithereon, Faolan has known no other life. He has spent the last 50 years of his life in service to his patron, rarely deviating from the path chosen for him by his father Frumorn. Faolan has yearned for the chance to explore and discover what lies beyond the mountains of the north. Faolan has always had trouble with the law, and has a reputation for being a bit of a hot head. Despite the fact that his family have all been clerics dedicated to using their divine powers to heal and nurture the helpless, Faolan has developed a knack for using his powers to get the best of his foes. His father has decided that perhaps allowing Faolan to explore, will help him understand the harshness that other people face in the hope that he will utilize his god given abilities for the good of others, and not of himself. Frumorn has asked his dear friend Gundren Rockseeker to take young Faolan into his service, so that he might learn a thing or two.
