FAITH: The Sci-fi RPG

FAITH takes place in a dark and unforgiving Universe in which Gods live side by side with technology and biological experimentation. The Universe is linked by wormholes; two super-species silently fight for control while humanity struggles for survival. Welcome to the Universe of FAITH

FAITH: The Sci-fi RPG is a pen and paper RPG that uses board game elements for some mechanics and to display information and keep track of it. These design choices allow the gameplay to be streamlined, keeping a wide variety of options open while simplifying their use.

The game comes in a box, bringing much more than just a rulebook to the table. The game design is based around three ideas:
- Streamlined gameplay: The base mechanic can be used to resolve any type of action.
- Luck management: The players can choose when to fail and when to shine to an extent.
- Art on the table: WIth the player deck illustrating the universe of the game and the gear and NPC cards the players will have a much easier time immersing themselves in the story.

What kind of players might like this game?

FAITH's mechanics are meant to keep the game as simple as possible, thus shifting the focus more towards the story and less towards complex rules that try to take every little detail into consideration.
The game is meant to be easy to learn, and enjoyable for long time RPG players as well as people playing an RPG for the first time.

What makes FAITH different?

The basic mechanics. FAITH uses an innovative system that completely replaces dice rolls with cards. Each player has a poker deck and a hand of 7 cards.
Actions in the game are successful by default, but the GM or any other character can chose to confront any action a character tries to perform, in which case both sides will play cards (up to a maximum determined by their attribute) and add their skill value. The one with the highest final value will succeed in his action.
What this means is if you shoot someone, your target wont stand still and then perform his action, but try to shoot back. Confrontations make the game feel more dynamic by making two characters play against each other instead of playing against a value set by the GM.

What do we need feedback on?

There are two main things that we need feedback on:

- Are the rules presented in the clearest way possible? It is one thing to create a ruleset and another one write it down in a way that it is easily used by a player who has never played a demo with you. As non-native English speakers we are aware of our limitations when using English and we will hire an editor before publishing, but he will only correct our use of the language.

- Any comments on balancing upgrades, powers and gear. A RPG system has room for a lot of possibilities and we want to make sure that they are balanced allowing people to enjoy different routes.

And of course, anything else that you think could work better or any additions you would like to see

Thank you very much!

Thanks for sharing this Tahyer, and good luck on your kickstarter! I've had a quick, initial peek through your beta materials and the preliminary game art looks beautiful - I agree that the card-props look like they would aid the sci-fi immersion. The poker mechanic also seems intriguing.
