Tracking Shared Meta-Currencies: Best Practices?

I'm looking for ways to track meta-currencies in some games; things like Momentum and Threat in 2d20 games which is a shared resource pool. In these games you need to know how many points are available to the group to spend when you're doing character actions.

Ideally this would be some some easy-to-access location while you're posting, rather than having a separate thread that you have to navigate to to see the current meta-currency status.

Ideas I'm mulling over for a Star Trek 2d20 game:

(1) Have a custom character sheet called 'Momentum and Threat' which shows up at the bottom when you post. I'm not sure if this will work if you don't own this character sheet though -- can character sheets be shared to multiple players?

(2) Having a footer at the bottom of the GM posts which always has the latest meta-currency status.

Any other ideas or thoughts on the above approaches?

You can make a handout sheet, I believe - see Adam's guide.
Edit: actually nevermind, I don't think players can edit this one. Hmm, maybe you can just agree to add a tracker to each post?

No, only one owner allowed, and only the single owner and the GM can make changes to sheets. (It does, deceptively, look like other players can make live changes (checkboxes and [ _=] stuff) but they do not 'save'.)

If the GM is going to have to update these lists anyway, then it might be easier to use a sheet, this appears at the bottom (as you said) and if a reliable player owns it, then there are two people who can update it.

If you want to give other players GM rights, then they can all update it (and everything else).

For a solutions that truly allows everyone to keep it up to date you can create a Subforum and give everyone (or selected people) Edit Permissions, but I don't know of a neat way to link to these shared 'wiki-style' threads for easy access from where you are posting.

If you are willing to use outside tools, you could try something like Google Drawings (or Sheets or Docs) shared with all the players and include that in a [ map] tag in a sheet.

Great feedback! And so fast! Thank you all. I'm going to experiment with the Handouts/playerSheets solution first, since I'm OK with the GM being the one person who edits it and tracks everything. If this works out it will be perfect! Will dig into this this weekend.

It definitely works. I know @Harrigan uses these reference sheets for some games and it's really useful. If I wasn't too lazy, I'd do the same.

A tool that can be used for tracking shared resources is the fliptoken. It stays in one post (ideally in an easily accessible place, perhaps in a separate thread that can be accessed via the threads button at the bottom or using a link to the post in a handout might be good) but it can be modified by anyone and the history is tracked for easy accounting. I think it was originally designed to mimic the destiny tokens in the FFG Star Wars games, but could be used to track other things too.

E.g.
[fliptokens=9]

fliptokens don't work in character sheets, though (don't let the Preview fool you). They are a useful way to track binary yes/no currencies in a thread (especial if you know the highest number they will hit), but simple check-boxes can do the same in a sheet pegged to the bottom thread if you don't need the players to edit them.

Yeah, I've had really good luck with these 'helper' character sheets. There are some quirks (covered above), and you have to fuss with them to get them to show up for your players, but I find them pretty indispensable at this stage, for little things like showing the NPCs, listing GM Bennies, tracking Init order...
[ +- ] Savage Worlds
...to full-on sheets that list long-term project progress, status of ship components, PC locations and all sorts of things:

[ +- ] Offworlders
