HUMAN SUB-RACES
The background below and that found in the separate Forum thread "Initial Setting for Campaign Launch" are intended to show that a wide variety Human Sub-races are available to PCs. Many are plausible in the setting, but clearly some are more plausible, more "normal" than others in any given region. Some people, because of their sub-race, would seem completely normal in an area. Other sub-races would be viewed as a bit abnormal in the same region, but still might be known to have reason to be there. Yet other sub-races would be viewed as highly foreign and unusual. Their presence may turn heads and invite questions. Depending on the sub-race, reactions could range from curiosity to scorn.
Important Note from the DM: Below and elsewhere you will find discussions about race and even some ideas of prejudice and racism that will appear in this fictional game setting. I want it to be crystal clear that I am not a racist, nor do I hold any prejudices in real life that I am trying to project into a make-believe game. I am attempting to describe a fantastical world that is dark, gritty, dangerous, and often irredeemable. Within it are elements of cultural tension, unfounded prejudice, discrimination, and plenty of other ideas and behaviors that are objectionable, even reprehensible. I hope it is understood that this is only intended to be part of the game and the fictional world setting, not any sort of acceptance of these or similar ideas in real life.
The "Human Sub-Races" listed below are people groups, community groups, cultures, etc. They are not really separate "races" like halfling, dwarf, and elf as related to the traditional game. Members of each human sub-race have their own different language, differentiating customs, and are generally grouped together in certain geographic regions, though plenty of outlier travelers from each group have moved into other regions individually.
