Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye) is essentially the German version of DnD. When DnD was starting to lift of in the US, Germany wanted a translation, and were shot down. So they built there own system based on what they heard about DnD. The system has been iterated continuously over the last 32 years. There was a pretty dismal port a while back, but this time round the people translating Das Schwarze Auge have worked very hard to keep the feel intact. I've had the soft copy of the rules and some premade adventures, but now that the hardcover has arrived I can't help but play it.
