The City of Greyhawk is burning.
War is consuming the country-side, the minds of its denizens, and increasingly its sons and daughters. The embers are red-hot, flames are beginning to rise, and the air is becoming thick with smoke.
The small-folk of Greyhawk have their feet closest to the coals, as they always do, but it is not far beyond them where the artisans and merchants lie, and from there ... it is only a short gap to the oligarchs. And they can smell the smoke on the wind. It should be no surprise that the ruling class seeks to put up a firewall between themselves and the coming blaze.
Which brings us to our story...
