OOC:
Okay, I was rolling to see if Cass could tell anything about Darcy's intentions from her responses, body language, etc. But the Laser Feelings question is a lot more focused: Are Darcy's betrayals indicative of something more nefarious than just trying to undermine her acting captain?
Feb 26, 2019 5:58 am
Laser Feeling: Looking at Darcy, you catch her eyes move over to you for a second and narrow slightly. She obviously still doesnt like you, but knowing her, she won't endanger the mission just to spite you. If she finds a way to undermine your authority without endangering any lives, however, she would most likely take it.
You don't see any reason to suspect more nefarious reasons for her behavior.

RobbOgden93 says:
"Commander, Permission to take leave?" Marbo asks. He is anxious to return to his medbay and finish up the last few requirements of his department before they engage in the enemy floatilla.
"I think we can hammer out the tactics without you, Doctor," Cass tells Marbo. Looking at Archer and Tulak, she says, "Unless you have any more questions for Dr. Zlam?"

"Our science officer will contact you. Please send her your files, Doctor.", the captain says. "But you may leave. Now the rest of us. What's the step by step plan to get these gas dispensers installed without being noticed?"

Do I know how noisy various tools are?

For cutting equipment etc. I would say we do a roll to see whether you manage to operate unnoticed but I'm pretty sure Moira would be able to select the best tools for the job to offer a balance between subtlety and effectiveness

OOC:
Sounds good. So I'll roll in the midst of the mission?
Feb 26, 2019 1:24 pm
OOC:
Yes, that makes it more interesting than if we already knew beforehand how it'll go. You're all very competent so I assume there won't be any problems in the preparation

This is probably a stupid question, but would the Antarctica be too big a ship for the pirates to trap?

OOC:
Trap in what way? It would be much more difficult for them to defeat the Antarctica than to defeat the Potential but with enough ships (Just the three you encountered would probably not be enough to destroy the Antaarctica in an open battle) it would still be possible to get through its shields. They mentioned that they only barely managed to beat back the six pirate ships that attacked the convoy.

OOC:
I was thinking in terms of having the Antarctica pretend to fall into the type of trap we just escaped, as a distraction, while the Potential slips in unnoticed.

Like I said, it was a stupid question. :D
Feb 26, 2019 2:47 pm
OOC:
Ah, you could try that. The Antarctica doesn't have any technology that would help them see through that ambush much faster than you. The question is whether the pirates would attack the Antarctica as well or whether they would consider it too dangerous, but that's hard to say without knowing more about how the pirates operate
Feb 26, 2019 3:06 pm
"Captain," Cass says, "it seems to me that utilizing some sort of distraction offers the best chance of success. It's unlikely that they will still be where we left them, but it's likely they'll be running this same sort of trap scenario where they can take advantage of environmental elements that give them cover, such as the solar radiation.

"What if the Antarctica presented herself as falling into that trap? You slipped through their fingers once; they'll be eager to make sure they get their prize this time. The Potential could slip in unnoticed and the teams could perform the rescue operation while the pirates are focused on you."
Feb 26, 2019 3:25 pm
Captain Tulak nods. "The idea could work. A problem I see is that we don't know when and where they will reset their trap. If they are experimenting on captured crewmen, I am not sure if we can wait for them to reveal themselves again."
"And if they raise their shields, that will present a great danger to our teams on the hulls.", adds the Antarctica's chief of security, Lt. Comm. Waters. "The electromagnetic energy of the shields would probably kill anyone operating on the ship's hull - unless we manage to insulate them perfectly."

"Then how about we turn their own tactics against them?", interjects Darcy suddenly. "Instead of waiting for them to present themselves, we pretend the Antarctica is damaged and in need of help. They know the trick but they might not be able to resist the bait."
Feb 26, 2019 3:32 pm
Cass snaps her fingers and points at Darcy. "I like it. That could work. Lt. Comm. Bruce, what do you think?"
Feb 26, 2019 4:13 pm
RC perks up at the promise of a challenge.

It could work, Commander! With yer permission, Cap'n, I could try ta modify yer ship. Ah'd offer a tech bug, but I dunno what tech tha pirates have. Wouldn't want ta re-write tha code only ta lose access entirely. But! A physical jam in a couple'a key places would make tha ship look like a wreck, but with a wrench turn or a hammer kick, yeh'd be back in business. Faster setup, too.

Marbo has returned to his medbay, sending the files hes drafted over to the antarcticas science team, and begun to work on his final portion of the project.

The captain looks at Moira with a slightly confused expression for just a short moment before regaining her composure. "For a second there I thought my translator was malfunctioning. I'm not sure I understood everything you just said, Lieutenant Commander, but you seem confident you can get it to work. Get together with my Engineering Chief asap and get it ready. But make certain that we can bring my ship back to full working condition immediately if required." After a short pause, she adds: "My apologies if what I said was offensive."
Then she turns towards Cass again: "Commander, I won't be able to coordinate much with you from the Antarctica without alarming the pirates. My ship and the lives of everyone on it will be in your hands." She hesitates for just a second. "If you don't feel up to the task, I can take over command of the Potential for the duration of this mission."

Marbo, you got Laser Feeling. What do you want to know? And what exactly are you preparing at the moment?

Cass gives the slightest of smiles. "Thank you, Captain, but I feel confident in my ability to lead my crew."
