Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

MArbo finds himself outside the door to the ready room. Having been dismissed by the rugged woman and the honorable commander of the vessel, he turns to the hallway, hands still poised from the sentence he was about to speak, and begins wandering back towards medbay, checking on the various groups of people as he goes.

"Human females. What a fascinating species." He goes about making his final preperations for the mission.

OOC:
Marbo XD

Well, Spinach, if it's all right, I'll sacrifice the Laser Feelings and just RP the rest. Is that okay?

lavtodd says:
OOC:
I roll prepared feelings for the pep talk.

Dag nabbit I worked hard on that. For my Laser Feelings, what does she actually need to hear right now?
OOC:
Hmm. Well, I think Cass would be having less of a crisis of confidence if it weren't for the fact that Darcy Jr. is so intent on undermining her. It's not that she's afraid of Darcy or what she might do - it's the fact that anyone that Cass has worked with, side-by-side, is so convinced that she is unworthy of command that they would resort to such underhanded tactics to gather "evidence" against her.

So I guess Darcy's bizarre, intense hatred is having almost a gaslighting effect on Cass. She *knows* that she's up to this challenge, but if a fellow officer feels this strongly that she's *not*, maybe she isn't...?

Does that help you, lavtodd?

OOC:
Heh. Yes.
Moira sighs.

An' Lieutenant Darcy's the only one bein' a she-wolf. She ain't her pa. An' the rest a' us trust yeh just fine. Yeh cannae let'er get ta yeh.
Feb 27, 2019 5:40 pm
Cass hopes she's not blushing. She's tried to keep her worries related to Darcy hidden, but of course Moira would pick up on it. The older officer is just too savvy, and she knows Cass better than most.

Straightening her posture, Cass says, "You're right. It's one person in a crew of 75. I just have to do my job to the best of my ability, and trust everyone else to do the same." She smiles. "Thanks for the pep talk, Moira. You're a good friend."

She leans back, sitting on the edge of the desk. "Let me ask you something about these booby traps - how likely is it that we can deploy them without knocking out half the crew? Do we have to be wearing the respirator devices before they deploy to avoid getting dosed?"
Feb 27, 2019 6:27 pm
Moira glows for a moment. She has very little trouble with the majority of the crew, really. Even if she didn't hate little Darcy's pretentious spine, she'd still want to check on the Commander. Then RC registers the question and becomes a bit more bashful.

Ah, well, truth be told, ah was assuming it'd be a mass process. Not knowing who was safe er not. Especially with Cap'n Eyr-An. If we gas everyone, then at least we don't miss anyone.

I, ah, could talk ta tha Doctor about it. But it'd take more time.

OOC:
FWIW, Cass meant the booby traps on the Potential. She's asking if there's a way to deploy the gas traps on our ship without knocking out Potential's crew. It seems like there's little advantage in knocking out the boarding party if nobody on the crew remains awake to disarm them.

OOC:
I guess Moira was assuming that the Antarctica could help. The boarding party trick, mind you, is the one tied to the fire doors slamming shut. So with Cass's modified code, an armed crew could make their way to the transporter room. The replicators were for if the pirates got past that. Sorry if that was unclear.

OOC:
Marbo is screaming internally about respiratory protection. and the importance of everybody wearing it.

OOC:
Internally, no one can hear you scream...

Let's finish up the blue text here. Cass, Moira, you were having your talk. Let's get back IC
Feb 27, 2019 9:20 pm
Cass explains what she was trying to convey, and Moira painstakingly explains what Cass is misunderstanding, slowing her speech down so as the make sure Cass is properly interpreting every syllable. When they have finally achieved mutual understanding, Cass thanks her for, well, everything. "Now, unless there's anything else you wish to discuss, Lt. Commander, you can continue your preparations. Let me know if you encounter any issues."

Moira nods and tries to find Marbo. It's probably time to beam out, soon.

Oi! Doctor. Need any last minute help?

OOC:
Would it make sense for Cass and Tulak to touch base one last time before the mission begins? Or is there nothing more that needs to be said?
Feb 27, 2019 10:54 pm
"Negative. Marbo is prepared for the mission."
Feb 28, 2019 4:42 am
The preparations have been made and you are ready to put your plan into action. The Antarctica leads you into a star system that they determine should be suitable for this mission: No inhabited planets that could be in danger, located within a common travel route so it makes sense for a Consortium ship to pass through here.
As the Antarctica gets into position, Lt. Mezron speaks up: "Commander, hail from the Antarctica"
Feb 28, 2019 5:08 am
Cass pivots the captain's chair toward the front of the bridge. "Thank you, lieutenant. Onscreen."
Feb 28, 2019 5:15 am
The screen lights up, showing Captain Tulak sitting in the captain's chair. You notice that the Antarctica is on red alert.
"We are in position and ready to engage the plan." She pauses and seems to hesitate for a few seconds. "This is one of the hardest orders I have had to give. Commander, lock your phasers onto the Antarctica's saucer section, subsection 11-B, and open fire. One burst, 75% power."
Feb 28, 2019 5:20 am
"I assure you, Captain, that it's not much easier to comply with it," Cass told her. To the security station, she said, "Target the Antarctica, subsection 11-B. Seventy-five percent power, a single burst."
Feb 28, 2019 5:26 am
The man at the station follows your command quickly, but slower than you would expect in an actual fight. Tulak cut of visual communication so you can see on screen, how the phaser beam hits the Antarctica, burning a large hole into the ship's hull and sending the ship into a slow spiral.
You watch as all lights on the ship, including the engines, turn off one after the other, leaving the ship to look drifting and helpless. With the hole in the hull, even you would almost believe that it's out of order.

The captain's voice sounds one more time from the intercom: "Get into position, Commander. We're going to start sending the distress signal in one minute."
