Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

Cass can't help feeling slightly ill watching the Antarctica looking disabled and vulnerable, but she doesn't let it show. "Mezron, take us to the designated position."
Feb 28, 2019 12:00 pm
Cassandra Darcy has created three hull teams and three strike teams:

Hull 1: Dr. Zlam (USS Potential) and Lt. Topa Kun (USS Antarctica)
Hull 2: Lt. Javier Santaemilia (USS Antarctica) and Lt. Comm. Bruce (USS Potential)
Hull 3: Lt. Orlik Mokk (USS Potential) and Lt. Comm. Christoph Miller (USS Antarctica)

The three strike teams consist of five members each and are led by
ST1: Lt. Comm. Darcy (USS Potential)
ST2: Lt. Comm. Waters (USS Antarctica)
ST3: Lt. Alberta Salieri (USS Antarctica)

Commander Cassano has vetoing right, of course, all assigned crew members also have access to this list and can request changes.
Once everyone has signed off on the teams, we will start the trap.

OOC:
Commander Cassano has no objection to these teams as listed, but will allow adjustments if any members request them.

I'm game. Let's roll!
Feb 28, 2019 5:28 pm
Marbo is skeptical of the capabilities of this person hes been paired up with, and he expects he will be required to do all the work.

He will grab one of the devices and strap it to his back, and mount two cutting torches to his carrying harness. He will also grab two of the grenades from the medbay laboratory, and load up one of the dart rifles.

Marbo lowers the large glass dome portion of his space suit over his head, and it hisses as the suit system seals and purges itself.

He will reconvene with the hull teams one last time before declaring that he is ready, going over the mechanics of the distributors in great detail, and covering every possible fact there is to know about them, from basic operation to advanced troubleshooting.

Once hes completed his debriefing, he taps his communicator.

"Commander. Zlam. Device training complete. Hull teams briefed on operations. Marbo is ready to "Rock-and-Roll". It is quite clear that he is attempting to use human coloquialisms to seem less "mechanical" and easier to approach.
OOC:
Holy shit a 1 in 6 chance of succeeding on a feelings roll of great importance, and i succeed. good lord.

Lt. Mezron positions the Potential inside the ring of a gas giant not far from the Antarctica. It will be difficult but not impossible to discover it there but there is no better hiding spot in the system.
Very soon, you receive a high priority distress signal, conveying the name and location of the stranded ship as well as an exaggerated descirption of the damage. According to the signal, the Antarctica is basically completely helpless.

All the teams are gathered in the transporter rooms and ready for their missions. The scientists go over the schematics and plans they received from Dr. Zlam. The strike teams are checking out their breathing masks and equipment. Everyone is anxious to get going.
Kendall, you're travelling through a lesser visited section of space when your ship suddenly picks up a distress signal by the USS Antarctica, one of the flagships of the Consortium. Apparently they have been attacked by a Naplitan warship and are drifting helplessly through space in a star system very close to your current location.
Their computers could definitely provide you with information for your search and if you rescue them, they would be in your debt, so it might make sense to check it out
Feb 28, 2019 8:09 pm
Cass settles in for what could be a fairly long wait, but her nerves are a little too unsettled to relax. "Mezron," she says, just to have something to do other than wait, "what's our sensor range on detecting any vessels that might respond to the distress signal?"
Feb 28, 2019 8:44 pm
"Any approaching ship would be able to pick up the signature pattern of our long range scanners", she explains. "Therefore, we are only able to use our short range scanners, which means we won't be able to detect any ships until they enter the system, Commander."
Feb 28, 2019 11:15 pm
Cass gets on a comm link to the teams in the transporter rooms. "The Potential has taken up her strategic position and the Antarctica has begun transmitting a distress signal. We don't know whether we'll be waiting for minutes or for hours for the pirates to show up, but given the quality of the bait we're using, my guess is we won't have to wait very long. Remember that our priorities are to rescue the captives first, and second, to put these pirates out of business."

She pauses, then continues. "My grandfather always refused to wish anyone luck. He said that luck was really just the result of people having the courage to make their own success. I tend to think he was right. So with that in mind, I wish you all courage and success."

Punching the button to end the comm link, Cass sat back to resume the job of waiting for something to happen.

Kendall heads in towards the distress cautiously. She scans the region, looking for other ships in the area.

She wonders, Are there Naplitan forces nearby? Any scavengers trying to make a buck? Is this some kind of trap?

She approaches, trying to ascertain the situation. If she sees any Consortium ships nearby, she will hail them.

I am Kendall F’brei, here to lend aid to the distressed Consortium vessel. What can I do to help?
Mar 1, 2019 4:49 am
OOC:
Okay, the way I read Kendall's post is that she was going to hail any Consortium ships she saw. If that message was sent, shouldn't that mean she entered the star system the Antarctica and the Potential are in?
Mar 1, 2019 5:08 am
Oh, right. I skipped over that line and thought it was just a general hail to any ships in the vicinity.

In that case, Kendall, you enter the star system that the Antarctica is in and it appears to be in very bad condition. You could scan it to determine the extent of damage. You don't notice any other ships in the system but if you are worried about an ambush or trap, there are some parts of the system where ships could hide. You can roll Lasers to see if you can find any ships hiding here.
Cass, you see a small ship, private and suited for only one or two crew members, enter the system. It seems to not have noticed you yet.

"Commander. Zlam. Hull crews are prepared to deploy devices on your word."

Marbo is going over all three of the devices and making final checks, and double checks, and triple checks to ensure everything is perfect.

Cass looks at the small craft. It's very unlikely to be part of the pirate operation; too small, traveling alone. It's clearly just a private vessel that stumbled on this mission - a case of wrong place, wrong time. And it could blow the whole operation.

She'd run through numerous scenarios in her head ever since they'd met with the Antarctica. The arrival of a ship genuinely responding to the distress call was always a possibility, and in many cases, it would be potentially disastrous. If either the Antarctica or the Potential responded to wave them off, they risked blowing their cover to the pirates who could be within detection range.

But for a ship this small, Cass had already thought of a perfect plan. She punched her comm.

"Security team to cargo bay two. We'll soon have an unexpected guest who may not be too happy to be here."

She turned to the person manning the security station on the bridge. "Lock onto that ship and beam it directly into cargo bay two."

OOC:
About the sizes of the two ships. I've thought about it and I'm going to say, it's possible to fit Kendall's ship (Hero, do you have a name for it) into a cargo bay on the Potential but it's a tight fit.
Moonbeam, if you decide to proceed with this plan after resolving your Laser Feeling, I'm going to say that since you rolled a success at a cost, there would be some damage to one or both ships from this maneuver. However, I'll also allow Hero to roll a Lasers roll to protect Kendall's ship from the transporter, if they want.
Mar 1, 2019 2:04 pm
OOC:
The ship's name is Revini. I will roll Lasers to see if Kendall noticed anything prior to getting pulled in by a tractor beam.

As you're looking at the USS Antarctica drifting helplessly through space, your ship's console suddenly catches your attention. You notice a little alarm signal that warns you of a transporter being activated to transport your ship.

If you want to, you can engage your shields, protecting you from the transporter. Since you had two successes against Cass' one, you wouldn't have to roll again to engage the shields on time.
