To be sure we're all talking about the same thing, I did not mean a tractor beam. Cass was ordering that they use the transporter to break Kendall's ship down into molecules and rematerialize it inside the cargo bay. I'm not clear on how she could fight off the transporter beam.

OOC:
I'm talking about the transporter beam as well. Since transporters don't work through shields, I would assume, she would be able to protect herself by engaging her shields on time.

OOC:
Kendall's previous OOC post indicated she thinks I meant tractor beam. :)

I'm moving to the OOC thread to ask some clarifying questions so we don't clutter this one up too much.

Kendall does not really trust many people, so she would def engage her shields, go into evasive maneuvers, lock on to the source of the transporter, and hail them: "What is the meaning of this?!?"

OOC:
You rolled a Laser Feeling, Moonbeam
OOC:
My question is, what's the best way to quickly persuade Kendall to cooperate to avoid exposing the sting operation the Potential and Antarctica are trying to run? What does she need to hear?
Mar 1, 2019 5:51 pm
OOC:
Hero, you'll have to answer that, because I can't
Mar 1, 2019 6:27 pm
OOC:
I think we should authentically roleplay this one out, since what you are asking for is a feelings question. Also, since you don't know Kendall, how would you know how she would respond to that?

That being said, I will take that into consideration during our roleplay.
Kendall speaks up: "You, sir! I know you are there! Speak up, or I am gone, and broadcasting that there is something strange going on here!"

OOC:
No, I'm changing my action, so I haven't contacted you yet at all. As of right now, the transport thing did not happen. The point of the Laser Feelings questions is that they provide you with insight you wouldn't already have. I'm waiting for the answer to my question before I decide what my do-over action is going to be.

OOC:
I get that, but how would she know anything about this random person that just appeared? Doesn’t make sense, except for in a meta-gaming perspective.

If the GM wants to override my choice here, that is their call, but I don’t find it appropriate to a role playing game to have one character get complete 4th-wall omniscience because of a critical die roll.

The best I can give you, until the GM tells me otherwise, is that you know that because she hadn’t just swooped in to kill or scavenge, you would know that she is not hostile.

Once we start roleplaying, I will give you some innate insight into Kendall’s intent and character beyond normal means.
Mar 1, 2019 7:21 pm
OOC:
Okay. FWIW, I also provided an answer to a Laser Feelings question earlier when the GM said it needed to come from me.

OOC:
Laser Feeling is just supposed to represent these sudden realizations that the characters in the show sometimes get in order to move the plot along. You don't have to give any super deep motivations or anything, just a short idea of what might help resolve the situation.

However, if you absolutely don't like this, I can ask Moonbeam to ask a different question, I guess. Since this could kind of be considered pvp, I don't want to go completely against your will

OOC:
Since this is how we have been handling it so far, however, I would appreciate it if you could think of some information to give for the Laser Feeling. Like I said, it doesn't have to be a super detailed plan on how to deal with Kendall, just a suggestion or hook for Cass to use to get the story going. We all want the same thing here, after all: For the characters to meet up, work together and kick some pirate butt
Mar 1, 2019 8:21 pm
OOC:
You would get the sense that she can be leveraged into helping you. Perhaps she is looking for information that may be available in your data banks...
Mar 1, 2019 8:42 pm
OOC:
Thanks, Hero! Okay, I'm changing my action. Instead of giving the order to transport Kendall's ship onto the Potential, she's going to do something even crazier. Spinach, who's the highest-ranking officer on the bridge now? Mezron?
Mar 1, 2019 8:42 pm
Great.

Cass, you are about to order your crew to beam the newly arrived ship into a cargo hold when you get the feeling that that might cause more trouble than it would solve.
Whoever is piloting that ship must have come here for a reason. Maybe they just wanted to help but more likely, they were looking for something in return. The thought that they might be looking for some information comes to your mind. Maybe you could strike a deal with them in exchange for help with the pirate situation.

OOC:
LOL, we posted at the same time. Please see my post above yours. :D
Mar 1, 2019 8:45 pm
You're starting to run out of high ranking crew members.
Mezron is pretty low ranking, only one step up from Ensign. However, currently there is nobody on the bridge that has a higher rank than she does, only other Lieutenant Junior Grade and Ensigns. You could call someone here, if you want to, however a you still have some Lieutenants on board.

OOC:
Yeah, makes sense. So, the slightly less crazy option it is, then.
As a pilot, Cass had always, always trusted her gut in tricky situations. As a first officer and now as acting captain, she has less freedom to do that. But this seems like a situation where it makes sense.

Snapping her fingers rapidly, she calls for a data pad. Quickly, she records the following video message:

"I apologize for the unconventional communication, but we don't have much time and the circumstances are precarious. For reasons I won't go into just yet, ship-to-ship transmissions are extremely dangerous, so I've done the next best thing.

"You should know that a network of pirates is operating in this vicinity. You and your vessel are at serious risk of detection, and your presence here could endanger everyone on the Antarctica, as well as people already held captive by the pirates.

"I'm happy to tell you more details, but only face to face, not via transmission. Please record your response on this datapad, transmit one half-second static burst, and beam the datapad to the coordinates provided. I really look forward to explaining everything to you in person."

Cass punches in coordinates just between the small spacecraft and the Antarctica, sets the message to erase after a single play and orders the datapad to be beamed right in front of the small vessel, where it will be easily seen and identified by the pilot.

"Keep an eye on the ship's response," Cass tells the security officer. "If she looks prepared to bolt, we'll need to stop her. But I'm hoping this Kendall F'brei will be too curious to do that.

"Mezron, listen for that static burst and watch those coordinates I gave. Let's hope we get a mail delivery soon. "

Marbo continues to check the cylinders, hes on his 7th or eighth doublecheck, and the other people standing at ready are growing concerned looks on their faces. "Compressor, fluctuator, reservoir, safety. Check. Oxygenator, control valve, parts controller. Check." he repeats to himself, over and over and over.

Anybody standing nearby is most likely giving him a wide berth, as he hasnt stopped doing this since briefing everyone on proper operations of the devices, and ensuring that they all know not to use the maglock on their boots, as it will trigger hull sensors.

Kendall brings the data pad aboard, views the message, ponders for a few seconds, and, thinking that this seems a nastier mess than she before thought, also knew that she is no match for a vessel of that size.

She records a message on the data pad: "I consent to a face-to-face meeting to discuss the situation. I do not promise aid yet, though. F'brei, out."

She then beams the data pad to the aforementioned coordinates, lowering her shields once she sees that the ship grabs the data pad.
