Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

OOC:
You're unsure. She's acting in a way that you're not used to from her so you're having trouble interpreting what she wants. She does seem nervous, though
"Could I have some? Just a sip." Without giving you time to reply, she adds: "I can pay you back later, if we survive. I have a bottle of Ackian Deepwine in my quarters"
Mar 3, 2019 8:27 pm
Moira produces the weakest proof whiskey she has from her person.

Don't forget ta focus on tha mission, First Officer Darcy.
OOC:
Im rolling again to express concern. And the understanding that it’s really just a sip. If she takes anything more than just a sip, I’m gonna knock her out.

Rolls

Feelings - I dunnae want ta regret this. - (1d6)

(2) = 2

Mar 3, 2019 8:35 pm
OOC:
Well, looks like you didn't make yourself clear...
Darcy takes the flask and takes a deep gulp of it. Even though it's not the strongest whiskey, you can tell she has more practice with liqueur than her usual behavior would suggest.
"Do you honestly feel comfortable putting your lives in Cassano's hands with this mission?"
Mar 3, 2019 9:14 pm
OOC:
Well, that sucks. I'm glad you specified she had practice with this. I'd clock her in the head otherwise.....
Moira locks eyes with her and takes the flask back, probably with a little too much force.

Yes. An' ah'm not jus' sayin' that because ah'm still not sure if this is off the record 'r not. Ah trust tha Commander with mah life. Are yoo willin' ta?
Mar 3, 2019 9:27 pm
She looks back into your eyes. She looks less certain than you feel but she does not break eye contact. "I don't trust her judgement. I know her. I used to be like her. She doesn't have what it takes to be a commanding officer." Her eyes dart to the flask, then back to you. "I'm going to do everything I can to make sure everybody will come back from this mission alive. I'm not going to let anyone die because of a bad judgement call by an acting captain who is in over her head, no matter what it takes."
Mar 3, 2019 9:43 pm
Moira scowls.

Says the lass who just downed a shot a' Seven Stars without missin' a beat. Ah get tha feelin' most o' us aren't all we say we are. But what ah do know is that yer the same rank as me. Not less. An' not more. Ah've been with Spacefleet sence before either yer or tha Commander's curves came in. An' ah know tha importance a' followin' tha same leader. Even if we don't agree. Cannae have a plan B if yeh don't even try plan A.

She shoves the flask back into her bosom without breaking eye contact.

Tell yeh what, Lieutenant Commander Darcy. Behave yerself fer this mission. If Cassano fails, yeh'll get a promotion, no doubt. If she doesn't, yeh'll cover yer ass. An' if yer still antsy about it when we're done, meet me in tha holodeck. Ah've got quite a few combat scenarios that ah'd bet yeh'd be willin' ta try on me.

She turns and heads toward Marbo.

Course, yeh know all about mah programs, don'tcheh?
OOC:
I'm rolling feelings one more time to intimidate her. I'm keeping "prepared," since she hates Darcy's guts, and "expert," since she's been around long enough that she's probably been in a pickle before. If that doesn't work, please disregard.

OOC:
Moira, you got Laser Feelings. What do you want to know?
I'm not sure if Expert would apply here but I don't mind keeping it. I'm not planning to be a rules lawyer for L&F
Mar 4, 2019 12:44 pm
OOC:
I don't mind either way. I figured I'd include it just in case.

What's the most realistic thing that could go wrong on our end? Is it really leadership, or something else?
Mar 4, 2019 1:10 pm
Laser Feeling: The most dangerous thing that could happen is that you get detected and the pirate ship's shields get raised. There are a number of things that could happen to cause that. The most likely factors are: The Potential is discovered (which would most likely be a result of a bad decision by Cass), the pirates's sensors pick up the installing of the dispensers on the outsides of their ships (which would be the engineers fault), or the gas is not properly mixed or dispensed and the pirates have enough time to react before they get knocked out (which would be the scientists' fault)
OOC:
Let me know if you want to keep your action or change it.
Mar 4, 2019 1:55 pm
OOC:
So basically we could die in the vacuum of space in a number of delightful ways. Great. I'll keep my action, though. Darcy's annoying :P

Edit: Actually, thinking about it, I'd like to change "behave yourself" to "don't go looking for a fight." If things go south I understand she may need to do something. The rest of the tone and phrasing, though, I keep. Is that okay?

After a few thoughtful moments, Kendall responds to Cass’ question: "Well, it would catch the pirates off-guard. It may give you an opportunity to board their ship, blow them away, or whatever it is that you are trying to do with them.

"You also may get lucky enough to eavesdrop into any communication that I have with them, and glean insights into their MO or operation. There are quite a few positive outcomes, but you are correct, there are so, so, so many negative outcomes. It’s a big risk, but one of potentially high yield.

"So, Commander Cass of the Potential, would you like my help?"

Since you only slightly changed what you're saying, I'm just going to keep your previous roll for this.
As you're walking away, Darcy stands up straight and grabs you by the shoulder. "It wasn't me that went sniffing around your holo-programs. That was your beloved Commander!" As she's speaking to you, you can see her eyes dart to where you stashed the flask at least once. "I'm not going to go 'looking for a fight' out there. I want to stay alive just as much as you. And believe me, when - not if - something happens out there, it's going to be me saving your ass, not Cassano!"

Looking around, Darcy noticed that she had raised her voice slightly, causing some of the surrounding crew members to turn towards the two of you. She lets go of your arm and straightens out her face, returning it to the emotionless, professional expression you're used to from her.

OOC:
What kind of weapons does Kendall's ship have? I'm not asking in character because I assume Cass would already have gleaned this information from sensor readings and research on Kendall.
Mar 4, 2019 2:49 pm
OOC:
Different angle from before, so I'm not sure if it's allowed. Moira collects whiskey. She's spent a decent amount of time around bars. The earlier roll was to see if this was a trap. Can I roll to see if Darcy shows signs of either being intoxicated or having a drinking problem?

OOC:
I would assume phaser banks, not as strong as the Potential's but more powerful than would be expected from a ship of its size and enough to hold its own against many smaller spaceships.

"So, Commander Cass of the Potential, would you like my help?"
Cass shakes her head. "No. It's too big a risk. My people will be hanging by a thread out there as it is, trying to inject knockout gas into the enemy ships undetected. If a ship with weapons shows up while the operation is under way, the pirates would likely raise their shields and kill my teams, along with our strategic advantage."

She stands up. "I would welcome your advice, however, if you'd care to offer it. You can stay on the bridge while we wait and during the encounter. You've probably been in situations that have given you insights I don't have. But that's entirely your choice."

Quoting this in case Spinach didn't see it. I think they were both posting at about the same time.

Thanks for that. I usually make sure to check if someone posted at the same time as me but I actually missed this message. Sure, give me a Feelings roll. I would say expert but unprepared

Here goes.

Edit: Good gracious. I get this every time I roll 2d6 XD

OOC:
She does not seem to be intoxicated at the moment but she seems very interested in your flask and her behavior is not completely stable. You feel like usually from this behavior, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume a drinking problem. However, you've never seen or heard of her getting drunk before, at least since you've been serving together on this ship
