Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

"Moira, please hold this." Zlam almost stutters as he hands his helmet to her. A wierd expression is growing on his face as he is swiping through a datapad furiously with his bottom two hands. the one remaining hand that is not handing over the helmet is wiping the Nemurlian equivalent to sweat off of his brow.

"Marbo has a solution to the nerves. As a doctor, it is my job to cure all ailments whether psychological or physiological. This might work.

"All hands. Zlam." The shipwide PA system echoes.

"A reminder... As we fly towards what may be certain doom... These foes we face today are not civilized members of the greater collective of mankind... These are savages... Ruthless pirates.. who would probably not spend a second thought wondering whether it was morally wrong to send you flying into space as bait to catch a gas cloud whale!
Treat them as such... Show them no fear in the same way that they do us... Show them the tooth and claws of the consortium... Make them know what we do to outlaws and brigands...

and most importantly...

let us bring back our brothers and sisters from their clutches."

Anybody in the same room as Marbo can see he is clearly reading off a script he found on the ships open file server, Stammering due to his own nerves. but the determination in his face is intense. He is absolutely ready to face these pirates, but not without the help of all the men and women he has spent almost his entire adult life flying with.

Moira dutifully holds Marbo's helmet and beams with pride. He's a weird little frog...thing, but he tries so dang hard.

Well said, Doctor.

Kendall raises the pirate ship: "Hail friends! I noticed a distress beacon from this ship. Can I assist you in helping these poor souls?"

She is kicking herself that she didn't ask Cass how long the crews needed to finish their ruse. Oh well, she thinks to herself as she awaits a reply from the Star Flare.

Marbo, the gathered people seem to appreciate your speech. Some laugh lightly, some smile. It wasn't particularly inspiring but it seems to have raised morale slightly, just by virtue of being entertaining.
Kendall, you receive a reply from the Star Flare, voice only. A female voice says over comm: "This is Captain Anell of the Star Flare. We welcome your assistance, stranger. We do not have enough medical supplies for the injured. If you could beam over some supplies, that would be of great help. We would also appreciate if you could come to our vessel yourself."

OOC:
Is this communication audible to the Potential?
Mar 6, 2019 7:56 pm
OOC:
Normally, no. You can try to intercept the communication. If you get one success, you'll be able to hear what they're speaking but unless you get a second one, they would notice that someone is listening in.
Mar 6, 2019 7:59 pm
OOC:
My track record with rolls kinda sucks, so I guess I'll just remain ignorant of the content of the conversation.

Cass, while this whole thing is going on, you get alerted of a message from sickbay. When you access it on a terminal, you read this:

Sickbay to Acting Captain, private,
Evaluation of Lt. Comm. Cassandra Darcy:

The subject is physically healthy. She has no wounds and suffers from no illnesses. Her blood alcohol level is measured at 0,037%.
Preliminary psychological analysis has noticed slightly raised levels of stress, related to feelings of fear and anger.

According to medical regulations, Lt. Comm. Darcy has been found unfit for duty. She will be able to return to active duty in approximately 4 hours once her blood alcohol level does not exceed the maximum of 0,005% anymore.

A reprimand for intoxication is required by Spacefleet regulation.

Signed
Dr. Belka
OOC:
Cass, you know that this alcohol level would under many circumstances be accepted without further comment but since you have ordered a medical examination, the doctor had no choice but to declare Darcy unfit for duty because of it.

Cass reads the report and frowns. It's weird that so little turned up; if Darcy, the acting first officer, is so out of control that she shouted "If I die out there, you'll get demoted" at her acting captain on an open comm link, something more than "slightly elevated levels of stress" and a minor excess of blood alcohol should have been detected. But this was just a preliminary psych analysis - perhaps the full analysis will reveal more.

As for the intoxication reprimand, well, that's on Darcy. If she hadn't engaged in such flagrant insubordination, there would have been no medical exam ordered in the first place. And frankly, it was good to have an objective unfitness metric to support Cass' removal of Darcy from the strike team.

Sending an acknowledgment of the report to Dr. Belka, Cass dictates a brief account of the incident that prompted her to relieve Darcy from duty and files it in the captain's log.
OOC:
Can I roll Feelings to see if I can get any insight into Darcy's behavior?

OOC:
I don't know what information you could get from the roll that you don't already have but of there's something specific on your mind you're curious about, you can let me know and roll for it.

As for earlier, she wasn't shouting over comm, just speaking. I didn't specify how her voice sounded in my post, sorry for giving you a wrong impression.
Mar 6, 2019 9:23 pm
OOC:
Okay, not shouting - thanks for the clarification. However, it still seems pretty insane to me for her to say that, especially in the presence of others. Maybe that's not how you meant for me to take it, but I'm having a very hard time picturing a first officer on TNG saying something like that to their commanding officer - especially as they are about to deploy on a sensitive mission - and not being relieved of duty immediately, you know?

Now, perhaps I did misread part of that post and maybe Darcy was speaking to Cass on a private channel? But even if that's the case, it would raise serious alarm bells as to her fitness.

I'm not disagreeing with the way you handled it. I just wanted to clear up any confusion. She'lldisagree with Cass' decision but that's probably not surprising to you

OOC:
LOL, not surprising at all.

Kendall responds to this captain. "I thought that was the Star Flare. What happened to my friend, Captain Hudd?"
Mar 6, 2019 10:21 pm
There's a moment of silence then the voice responds: "He died in a force field accident two months ago. Truly tragic. If you wish to inspect his body, simply beam on board."

OOC:
The pirate ship's shields are down. You could send one team out if you wanted, Cass. Just saying
Mar 6, 2019 10:50 pm
OOC:
Oops, guess I was asleep at the wheel. Er, helm.
"Cassano to Away Team One. You are cleared for deployment to the pirate vessel. Courage and success. Transporter room two, beam the first away team to the designated part of the pirate ship's hull."
Mar 6, 2019 11:06 pm
OOC:
I believe i am part of away team one?
"That is marbos cue. Good luck all." Marbo dons his helmet once again, hoisting the gas device onto his back, and arming himself with an autoinjector full of antidote to the sleep toxin, a modified plasma cutter, and his tranquilizer dart gun.

He proceeds to the transporter, and asks them to beam him and his team about 20 feet away, and he grabs one of the fire extinguishers off the wall. He instructs the other man to hold on to him as the beam, and once on the other side, 20-25 feet away from the hull, Marbo will use the extinguisher to propel himself towards the hull of the pirate vessel.

once they have landed and lashed themselves onto the hull marbo will start installing the device on the oxygen filter system.

Marbo, your assistant Topa Kun from the Antarctica, follows your orders precisely and assists you with the installation of the device. There is no reaction by the ship so you are fairly certain their sensors are not picking you up. It'll take you a few minutes to finish installing the device but you don't foresee any difficulties.
Kendall, your sensors suddenly register two humanoids outside the Star Flare's hull. It seems like Cassano has initiated her plan.
