Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

Kendall responds to the new captain of the Stare Flare: "I would be very interested to see him. But how about I just land my ship in your shuttle bay? Perhaps that would be safer. This ship is all I have, and I would hate to lose ‘er to space."

She can tell that this captain is lying, but for the sake of this situation, she is going to try to draw things out a bit.
OOC:
He died in a force field accident, but you have his body intact enough to keep him for two months? Hm....
Mar 7, 2019 5:28 am
"That sounds like a wonderful idea, captain!", the voice replies again. "We will open up our shuttle bay doors and release the forcefield. We will welcome you there once you've landed.

You know they're lying and that this is almost certainly a trap but the landing procedure would give the hull team a lot of time to safely install the device without any risk of the other ship raising their shields.

"What are the sensors telling us about what's going on out there?" Cass asks her bridge crew.
Mar 7, 2019 5:56 am
"Not much", Lt. Mezron replies. "We can only use minimal sensors without being detected by the Star Flare. Our hull team is still alive and on the outside of the ship and it appears that the pirates have opened a set of hangar doors."
Mar 7, 2019 6:12 am
"What? They've opened hanger doors?" Cass knows she heard Mezron correctly, but she's too surprised and concerned to not repeat what she said. Not waiting for an answer, she asks, "Well, if our away team isn't signalling, the hangar doors must not be a sign that the pirates detected them." The away teams had been provided with a primitive communication protocol: two blips of static to indicate successful installation of the gas devices, three quick blips of static to indicate distress. In both cases, the response is immediate beam-back.

"Maybe the hanger doors have something to do with the Renzi. Can we tell anything about that ship's movements?"

Kendall approaches the shuttle bay as slowly as she can, but before she is at the point of no return, she then veers off, getting on the other side of the Antarctica. She thinks, I’m not dying for the success of this crazy mission. Hopefully, that diversion buys Cass’ team enough time.

She will use the bulk of the space fleet ship as a shield against any phaser or torpedo attacks from the pirate vessel.

Damn it, Cass! Gimme a sign of what the sitrep is!

She is really hoping that this doesn’t bite her in the ass.

Kendall, you receive another communication from the Star Flare. "What are you doing? We require your help here!", the voice asks over comm. It sounds very tense now.

Marbo, you see an unknown ship approaching. You've heard of a private vessel arriving and its captain having a conversation with Cass so you assume this is it. It's flying very slowly towards the pirate ship, towards an open hangar bay, but before it enters, it suddenly veers off and takes cover behind the Antarctica. Whatever happened there might have alerted the pirates that something is wrong. You're almost done with the installation of the device but you still need a bit more time. Do you want to keep going like before, work faster (which would make it more likely to be detected) to finish up sooner or abandon the mission in case the pirates will raise their shields in response to the unknown vessels action?

Cass, you also observe this maneuver from the bridge of the Potential and can react however you wish.

Cass quickly records a message on another data pad and has it beamed directly onto the Renzi. "I assume from the hangar doors that the pirates tried to lure you onto the ship. My hull team needs more time to finish the job. If the shields get raised, they will be killed and the mission fails. I have no right to ask this, but I am - please go back and dock your ship in their hangar bay. Do anything you can to delay them raising their shields. And have a respirator mask handy."

Damn this chick! she thinks as she listens to the communication.

Kendall hails the other ship: "Sorry, Captain. I haven’t lived this long by jumping into every ship that has invited me over. To tell you the truth, I came here not to aid those aboard, but to scavenge this ship. Is it safe to assume that you are here to do the same?

Perhaps we can agree to split the proceeds of the ship? 50/50?"

You don't get a response for a while. Suddenly, your displays give out a familiar warning to you: A transporter is locking on to you, and you're prettys ure it's not the Potential. The pirates are trying to beam you out of your ship into theirs.
"Commander!", Mezron suddenly speaks up. "The pirate ship has just engaged their transporter. It appears as if they're trying to beam Ms. F'brei onto the Star Flare!"
Mar 7, 2019 3:34 pm
"Shit!" Cass surges out of the captain's chair, as though being upright might help. It doesn't. She throws up her hands. "There's nothing we can do that won't tip them off." To herself, Cass mutters, "Kendall, let them take you. Don't make them put up those shields. Marbo, I really hope you're nearly done with the job."

Addressing the waiting teams in the transporter, she says, "Strike team one, no signals from the hull team yet, but the pirates are attempting to beam the civilian pilot onto their ship. Stand by for deployment. At the moment, their shields are down. If that remains the case, we will beam you directly onto their bridge. If the gas does its job, your work should be easy."

I attempt to raise my shields.

OOC:
What have I heard about this Captain Anell?
Mar 7, 2019 4:56 pm
Laser Feeling: You've heard the name pop up once or twice in the context of black markets. From what you've heard, she's not a big deal in the crime world. She used to organize and fence drugs but she disappeared from those circles a while ago.

Do you want to change your action or keep going with it?

Marbo continues to work at a steady, but controlled pace. He refuses to let panic set it. if he speeds up too much he may miss something when installing the device, and then the whole plan would end up just being a loss of resources. He will looks up at his assistant in between installation steps.

"Great danger." The alcohol is wearing off, he can feel himself tensing up. "You can leave. No point. Marbo almost finished here." He continues to work away at the final steps of installation.
Mar 7, 2019 5:39 pm
Lt. Kun looks up at you, Marbo. You can barely make out his eyes through the thick helmet of the space suit he's wearing. "I have a job to do, Doctor.", he explains. "And unless you're ordering me to return to the Potential, I am going to finish it."
Mar 7, 2019 6:16 pm
OOC:
Knowing what she knows, Kendall would probably not have raised her shields. If it were a cutthroat murdering pirate, that may have caused her to raise shields, but if she is not feeling threat of life, it may make sense to her to let this low-level criminal take her in. She takes a gas mask, but no noticeable weaponry. She would have a 4 inch nail in a pen casing in her coat pocket. She uses this when people try to muscle her around, prison-style.
Mar 7, 2019 6:36 pm
"No order. Simply an option. Self preservation. Appreciate the help." Marbo hands him one of the plasma torches and the two begin to use an extremely low heat to seal a chemical gel around the attachment to prevent any of the gas leaking out into space or causing a significant breach.
OOC:
Can i see anything on the hull that would be an immediate threat or point of interest? anything like a turret, or a shield projector that could be sabotaged once the gas device is installed?

Marbo, you and Lt. Kun finish installing the device and activate it. You can't really tell from the outside but it appears to be working fine and the inside of the ship should be filling with gas now.
You don't see any immediate points of intereston the hull. Shield projectors would be installed under the hull so you'd have to break through it to access them which the crew would definitely notice.
Kendall, you feel the familiar sensation of a transporter and suddenly find yourself in a small cargo hold standing on a cargo transporter. You have a gas mask and your self defense pin with you. Two humans are standing next to the platform, both armed with small hand held phasers. They're not aiming at you yet but they seem tense.
"Welcome to our ship", one of them greets you. "Thank you for coming over. We require your help. Come with us please!"
You notice a faint, barely noticeable smell of chemicals in the air.
