Cass thanks Belka and terminates the link, then starts a new one."Cassano to Bruce. Moira, how's Marbo doing?" Cass is familiar with Marbo's responses in the aftermath of stressful situations, and equally familiar with Moira's tendency to look out for him during those moments.

Doooooo iiiiiit
Aye, Commander, he’s fine. Nothin’ unusual. Ah’m on mah way back ta tha transporter room.

In the grand scheme of things, she really does like the rest of the commanding staff. Most of it, at least. Marbo is a strange fish man, but he’s genuine, and clever. Moira is impressed by Mike’s engineering. And glitches. And she has a deep respect for Zephyr. Largely because he owns his arrogance.

So, privately, Moira coms to Cassano. Her voice betrays an edge of concern. Nothing like Darcy’s outburst, but the first genuine change in tone all mission.

Have we found ‘em yet?

Cass hears in Moira's tone both her concern and the words she doesn't say, and allows herself to feel guilty. For the last few hours, Cass has thought of her missing crewmen as just that - missing crewmen - and not as familiar coworkers, friends, people she knows and enjoys knowing, people who've made her laugh or made her mad or just populated her life on a daily basis. It was just easier to concentrate on the mission and the burdens that brought to the person in command. But now, hearing the concern in her chief engineer's voice hammered home Cass' own concern for her crewmates.

Quietly, so no one else on the bridge can hear her clearly, Cass says, "Not yet. I'm starting to think that they're on one of the other ships." She pauses, not sure what she wants to say next. "I'm sorry."

Cass, there' a communication from Hortam. "Strike team here, we have encountered resistance. A group of pirates was wearing vacuum suits and has therefore been unaffected by the gas. One of my men has been hit by a phaser. Requesting emergency transport to sickbay."

Kendall, you arrive on the bridge just in time to hear this conversation
Mar 9, 2019 7:11 am
Cass says, "How many conscious life forms are we reading on the pirate ship, other than our strike team?"
Mar 9, 2019 7:16 am
Mezron explains: "Our sensors are still deactivated to hide our presence. Should I engage them?"
Mar 9, 2019 7:21 am
Cass mentally kicks herself for forgetting about the sensors and says no. To Hortam, she says, "How many pirates on vacuum suits are there? And where on the ship are you located?"
Mar 9, 2019 7:28 am
"We're in the second cargo hold. There were five hostiles but we have neutralized them. Lt. Yang has been hit. The pirates were inside a Consortium runabout, apparently ready to leave the ship. We do not know if there are more conscious hostiles on this ship, we have to continue our sweep."
Mar 9, 2019 7:30 am
OOC:
Wouldn't the strike team have been equipped with a tricorder to help them locate conscious hostile?

Edit: Didn't one of the strike team tell Kendall they could read her life signs in her ship? That suggests they have been using a tricorder, right?

If you ask them about tricorders, you receive this reply: "Tricorders seem to be malfunctioning. All life forms are read as conscious, even if they are not. We have an estimate of how many life forms are on board but we have to check manually to see whether they are conscious or not."
Mar 9, 2019 12:40 pm
Kendall speaks up: "And how many are there?"
OOC:
Also, based on the ship’s size, and/or based on Kendall’s knowledge of this particular captain, about how many people would/should be on this crew?
Mar 9, 2019 12:47 pm
"We're reading seventeen life forms in total, excluding the strike team.", he replies.
OOC:
It's a small ship that can easily be piloted by three people but has enough room for ten times that.
Mar 9, 2019 2:28 pm
"Do you require additional assistance to gain control of the ship?" Cass asks Hortam.
OOC:
Cass can tell that this is really Hortam speaking, right?
Mar 9, 2019 2:30 pm
"Negative, Commander. We're continuing our sweep of the ship. Just beam Lt. Yang to sickbay for treatment."
OOC:
You don't know Hortam very well but you're certain it's the same person you were talking to before.
Mar 9, 2019 2:53 pm
"Send a security officer to sickbay, as a precaution, then beam Lt. Yang directly there."

You receive a confirmation from both sickbay and after a moment of hesitation also from Hortam
Mar 9, 2019 3:15 pm
Cass asks sickbay to confirm the nature of Lt. Yang's injury and how badly he's injured.
Mar 9, 2019 3:34 pm
Some time passes. Lt. Yang gets beamed to sickbay, Dr. Belka treats his wounds. He has been hit by a phaser blast set to kill but he got lucky and the blast only hit his arm. According to the Doctors report, he's in a bad shape right now but he will recover.

After another few minutes, you receive a comm by Hortam: "Commander, the ship is cleared. Seventeen hostiles, all unconscious, one dead hostile. No trace of the missing away team. What's the next step?"
Marbo, Moira, what are you doing in the meantime?
