Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

Cass surveys the scene briefly before striding to Dr. Belka. "Doctor, what's the story? What's killing these people?"
Mar 10, 2019 8:03 am
"Commander! I am not sure. Their bodies exhibit signs of extreme continuous stress over a long period of time, almost a week, and almost all pigments are missing from their bodies as if they had been sucked out of them. What's killing them is that the brain seems to be barely connected to the body. They're not breathing on their own, their heart is not working on their own, almost all natural processes have stopped and I can't say why. I can't find anything wrong with them that would explain it. I'm keeping them alive right now through medical equipment but that won't let them survive for long."
You can see that Belka is sweating and appears like he's in over his head. "I've never seen anything like this before!"
Mar 10, 2019 8:11 am
"I have," Cass says grimly. "This is how Captain Ery-An looked when I spoke to her." At Belka's blank look, she realizes that he either didn't know the details of their first encounter with the pirates, or he was simply too overwhelmed with the current medical crisis to process what she was saying.

A flash of insight strikes her like an almost physical blow. "It's not genetic experimentation," she blurts to, well, no one in particular. "This is a, a disease or something."

"EVERYBODY! TO STATIONS!"
Marbos voice breaks the rushing chaos of the sickbay as he enters the door.

"BELKA! TO SURGICAL STATION THETA! INTERNS! MAN YOUR ASSIGNED DESKS!"

Nobody on the ship has probably ever heard Marbo yell before, but the chaos in his medbay has riled him up, as well as his own self-anger because he took a nap. Good doctors dont nap.

As he enters the sickbay, all four of his arms are pointing wildly and directing traffic, while he speaks so fast it sounds like hes almost talking over himself. "Get one of the survivors to stasis, actually, scratch that, Lt. Comm. Darcy is in there. Interns, i want antibiotic sedative injections an hour ago. Belka, get the young woman to surgery and perform a full suite of tests. If lifesigns drop, administer adrenaline and antiobiotics. The pirate will be relocated to my station."

Marbo grabs the gurney with the still surviving pirate on it, two of his hands pulling the gurney, one of them applying his respiratory protection system, and the third spraying the other three down with an antibacterial chemical wash mist.

It takes him a few minutes to clear the sickbay, but he gets his patient into an operative position and begins to run scans on it, checking the heartrate, brain impulse levels, and other indicatiors for whatever there is going wrong inside these prisoners.

Once the scans and other tests return to verify what belka has said, he looks to commander cassano.

"Commander. Zlam. Please come here, i would like you to witness whatever is occuring to these people."

Marbo grabs a Las-Scalpel, and checks the pirates vitals.

Cass has watched in utter awe as Marbo completely takes command of the sickbay and single-handedly - figure of speech - brings order where chaos reigned moments before. Scientists, doctors, engineers - to Cass, watching them is like watching artists in the throes of creative urgency. They are, to use an antiquated term, her rock stars.

When Marbo calls her over, she comes immediately to bear witness.

OOC:
It's Captain Darcy that'sin Stasis, Lt. Comm. Darcy is helping the nurses.
Marbo's presence and decisiveness helps everyone calm down a bit and organize their work better. You should also have another stasis pod unless that was your ship's chosen weakness.
I also forgot to mention, on a bed to the side, there's a man in spacefleet security uniform with huge, terrible burns on his exposed arm. It looks like he was being prepped for surgery but then abandoned in the chaos
Mar 10, 2019 9:05 am
"Might get a bit...Messy.

One of marbos hands swings a spare apron to Cass, as well as a face shield and mask.

"Surgical log. Zlam. Stardate 2575-4-9. Received personel from captured pirate vessel. Most dead. One civilian and one pirate alive. Operating on pirate now. Chance of survival, slim. Must find root cause and save civilian life. Stasis unavailable. Captain still occupyin chamber."

Marbo takes the Las-Scalpel and begins an incision, his lower two arms manipulating sterilizer and a pair of surgical tongs, his upper two holding a scanner and the Scalpel. at some point, he has popped a glow-light into his mouth like a cigar, using it to see better where he is cutting.

As he makes the incision, he carefully uses the tongs to pull back the flesh of the pirates neck at the base of its skull, curious to see what nerves are intact and how the brain is operating without any external stimuli.

"Marbo," Cass says as she dons the apron, face shield, and mask, "we still have one available stasis pod, I'm pretty sure."
Mar 10, 2019 9:10 am
OOC:
Once my incision is made, what do i see?
Mar 10, 2019 9:12 am
OOC:
The guy with the injured arm is Lt. Yang. He was beamed here afte getting shot but got put on the backburner after the others arrived. Both people that are currently dying have been beamed first to the brig and then here. The were both on the pirate ship and assumed by the strike team to be pirates.

Marbo, give me a Lasers roll to determine what's wrong
Mar 10, 2019 9:13 am
OOC:
Oh... can I rescind that post where Cass tells Kendall to go interrogate Cass' own crew member, who she certainly knows and would recognize?
Mar 10, 2019 9:27 am
"Belka. Zlam. Put the civilian woman into our second stasis pod. Interns, WE DO NOT BACK BURNER ANY OF OUR PATIENTS! TREAT THE BURNS AND GET THE MAN OUT OF HERE!" Marbo yells.

He is determined to get these interns to learn how to operate a medbay at peak efficiency. Hes the type of doctor who checks the efficiency statistics every day, and strives for 100% every day.

The fact that such a simple treatment, a synthskin patch and a dose of painkillers, would get put aside for this is ridiculous to him. they could clear that bed and have it open for operation on any of the other pirates.

Rolls

Lasers- Surgery - (3d6)

added lasers to my last post because i forgot my roll entirely

OOC:
Of course. Just delete the post so it doesn't cause any confusion.

Robb, you got dem Lazer Feelz

OOC:
Wow. I’ve missed a lot!
Moira hangs back. She’s always been more confident with machines than biological organisms. She does scan to make sure Davis isn’t still there. She’ll need him in engineering.

She steps to the intern working on Lt. Yang.

Yeh did triage. Yeh didn’t know yed be gettin hell beamed aboard. Breakin’ triage can relieve some stress.

She also nods to the lieutenant.

Good work out there.

Then she puts on a mask and apron and joins Marbo and Cassano. This was like an engine breach, with all the fluids and broken pieces. Except, it really wasn’t like that at all.
Mar 10, 2019 12:47 pm
Lt Yang gives you a thumbs up with his good arm. He seems to be in pain but doing okay.
As you walk up to join Marbo and Cass, a nurse steps in your way and says: "Chief, while we can use all the help we can get here, it would probably make more sense for you to figure out what happened. The transporters must have malfunctioned or something! According to the away team, they were all fine before they were beamed over."

OOC:
I love this line!

And btw, Davis isn't here anymore.
Mar 10, 2019 3:04 pm
OOC:
Thanks! And I’m glad that Davis is okay. Can’t abandon the early-episode redshirts!
Moira nods.

Keep tha com open fer me, will yeh? Ah’ll do tha same.

She rushes back to the transporter room, already barking as she enters.

Sick bay’s full’a deed pirates. Nobody comes in er out until we know tha problem!
OOC:
Ill roll all 3 to see what’s wrong with the transporters, since she suited up with her best stuff for the mission anyway. If that’s not prepared, please disregard.

Edit: Dag nabbit! I’m guessing I can’t ask this as my laser feelings?

Rolls

Lasers - What in blazes is wrong with mah transporter? - (3d6)

(346) = 13

Mar 10, 2019 3:46 pm
OOC:
For your Laser Feeling, I'll tell you that the transporters are working perfectly. It must be something about the pirates that made them interact badly with them.
Mar 10, 2019 3:52 pm
Kendall steps up to the nurse: "I’m not feeling sick, and I was beamed over through the Potential’s transporter. Maybe your diagnostic skills are the reason you’re not a doctor!"
