Laser Feeling: Investigating the body that is only kept alive artificially by machines powering heart, lungs and all other organs, you realize that this change has not happened suddenly. The body slowly changed to remove control of all bodily functions from the brain to something else. In cooperation with Moira, you two realize that whatever it was that took over control must have been removed by the transporter's bio filter, leaving the body with nothing to direct it.

Cass checks to make sure no one else is near enough to hear, then says very quietly to Marbo, "I think there's something going on on those pirate ships, some kind of sickness. The captain who tried to order me to accept a boarding party looked like these people - no pigment, sweating, unwell. Hortam said that some of the pirates were in vac suits, so I'm thinking maybe they were trying to avoid contamination. Look for ANY sign that this whatever it is might be communicable, but keep it to yourself. We can't afford a panic right now."
Then she leaves Marbo and strides toward Kendall. To the nurse, she says, "The civilian is with me. As you were, lieutenant," then taps Kendall's arm to get her to walk with her toward the injured security officer.
"Yang," she says, "welcome back. I'm sure this isn't the scene you were expecting to return to." Cass gives a small, ironic smile. "I need you to tell me everything you saw on that pirate ship. If we're going to piece together what's going on, we have to have a complete a picture as possible. No detail is too small to matter."

Yang sits up lightly, trying not to put weight on his arm in the process. He thinks for a moment and then says: "Everything went according to plan. We arrived in a corridor. We found two pirates, one unconscious, one dead from a stab wound to the neck. Our tricorders were messed up. They registered the unconscious pirate as still conscious and even the obviously dead one still registered small life signs, even though the body was already cooling down. We went on into a hangar bay where we encountered Ms. F'brei and told her to beam back here. We continued on and in the other hangar bay, we encountered a group of pirates in vacuum suits that were getting on a run about, ready to leave the ship. We had a firefight and I got hit. The rest of the team continued the sweep and I got beamed here." He pauses for a moment, thinking. "There's really nothing else I've noticed. I'm sorry, Commander"

Cass touches the shoulder of his uninjured arm with a serious expression. "You have nothing to apologize for, lieutenant. You've done very well. Did any of the pirates say anything?"

He smiles at you when you touch his shoulder. Then his expression becomes a bit more serious again.
"They have been talking but not in any language I've ever heard of. It sounded more like clicking - I didn't even know humans could make such sounds... The universal translator gave a translation for it but only with a delay, so the language can't be in our databases. I don't remember what they said, though. Nothing unusual, I think."

"Good, okay. Try to relax, lieutenant. Things should calm down in here shortly." Cass moves away from Yang and hits her comm badge.
"Cassano to Hortam. Do not beam any of the remaining pirates off that ship. But try to get the ones in vac suits to talk. If they resist, tell them you'll beam them to your ship minus the vac suit. I have a feeling that will stimulate some willingness to cooperate."

"Yes, ask them why their shipmates died when we brought them to our ship. It's best if they think that ship is the Antarctica, by the way. And ask them what kind of sickness these people are afflicted with."

Cass signs off, gestures with a head movement for Kendall to follow her, and starts walking back to Marbo. As they walk, assuming Kendall does follow, Cass quietly says, "That angry looking blonde lieutenant commander is Darcy, my acting first officer." She says this without ever once glancing at Darcy.

"The bridge," Cass tells her. "I left Mezron with the conn. Relieve her of it, and be on the lookout for a response to a communication that I sent to the Antarctica. I'll be back on the bridge shortly."

After a few more minutes the notepad gets beamed back onto the Potential's bridge. It reads "Understood. We're willing to beam the remaining pirates into our brig, we have enough holding cells to keep them all here. Have you discovered where the other ships are? We need to get a fix on the location of your crewmembers."
