Moira calls in over the comm.

Oi! Commander. Things seem fine here. Want me ta set anything up fer our visitors?
Mar 13, 2019 2:40 pm
Kendall will tap her communicator. "Commander, my efforts have been fruitful. I have gleaned some interesting information about these parasites. We should talk in person. I will head to your ready room in about an hour."

Kendall will update her personal logs to denote the start system of her nemesis aliens, but not leaving any explanatory notes about that system, just that it is a system of note.
OOC:
What would it take to make a computer virus that would affect the alien’s computer systems? Also, what would it take to make a computer virus in this trinary language that would affect a Consortium computer?

Rolls

Lasers (she’s not a computer expert, but she likes to try) - (2d6)

OOC:
You got a Laser Feeling (two in one roll will still only give you on LF)
Mar 13, 2019 3:08 pm
OOC:
The insight I would like to obtain is about related species to this one in the known universe, so that I can try to understand cultural motivations of this alien group.

Perhaps the xenolintuistic pattern of the language would help me to find a related language that the Consortium has encountered before, which would help me find a similar culture.

"Yes, actually. It seems likely that this face to face meeting with the leader thing has something to do with how they manage to take over unsuspecting ships, so I'd like to see this plan in action without the attendant risks. Can you set up a force field cage that doesn't look like a cage? Maybe set up two chairs, one inside the cage and one outside, so it looks like we're just sitting facing each other unobstructed? But if he tries anything, it's caught by the force field. Doable?" Cass looks at Darcy for her input, as well.

Laser Feeling: While your search does not yield any direct hits on sentient parasitic species, you find information about the Grall, a symbiotic species where humanoids are joined with a symbiotic life form. The two combine into one person and after the death of the hosts the symbiote lives on in the next host. While the relationship between host and symbiote ja very different there than it appears to be with these parasites you can still draw some parallels: The symbiotes' lives are valued much higher than the hosts because they live through many lifetimes. Similarly, the parasites do not seem to care too much about their host bodies. The symbiotes are also able to perform changes in the way their hosts' bodies operate, from changing hormone levels and organ operations, to over longer time even manipulating bone structure. It is reasonable to assume that the parasites would be capable of similar things, possibly even more than the Grall symbiotes.

Cass:
Darcy does not reply, but she nods to show her approvement.

Moira, if you want to put this into action, give me a prepared expert Lasers.

OOC:
Was Kendall able to devise the computer viruses that she attempted to create?
Mar 13, 2019 3:53 pm
You didn't get any successes, so no, you wouldn't be able to program one in either direction.
Mar 13, 2019 4:09 pm
OOC:
Oh, I misunderstood the rule of needing to be below. I thought succes was below or equal to my number. Makes more sense now.
Mar 13, 2019 4:12 pm
OOC:
It is a bit ambiguous but the way I read and handle it, an equal roll is not a success

Cass leaves the bridge in Darcy's hands (and wonders at the curious silence of her chief medical officer) and sits down at the desk in the ready room. "Computer, run facial recognition comparison on images of Kendall F'brei."

When the computer requests parameters, Cass thinks for a few seconds. She's always had the nagging sense that she's seen Kendall before, and that same sense keeps insisting that it was in the context of Spacefleet. The records of Kendall F'brei went back ten years, so that at least gave Cass something to narrow it down. "Compare the images to Spacefleet personnel who were active between ten and fifteen years from the current date."

OOC:
Moira's attempt at a chill forcefield.

Edit: I'm beginning to regret a feelings-based engineer.....

Cass is so gonna get parasited.

OOC:
Marbo probably passed out from excitement over naming a species.
Cass, your search yields a surprising result: A spacefleet file shows up on your screen. The picture looks exactly like Kendall but the name reads Captain Karen Granden.
As you read through her history, you discover that she was always a bright and successful Spacefleet officer who climbed the career ladder quickly. During the last ten years you find a number of Mark's on her record accusing her of transgressions against Spacefleet orders and regulations but almost all of them have a note attached that says they have been dismissed in a hearing. Sixteen months ago, she took command of the USS Fortune, a small ship equipped for war that patrols the border to the neutral zone between the Consortium and the Naplicans

OOC:
Hey, it was a costly success, not a fail!

Besides. We'll just send everyone for a transporter trip when all is said and done. Kill the buggies.

...and the hosts

But if we catch it fast enough, wouldn't the damage to the spinal column not be done yet?

Cass stares at the screen in slack-jawed amazement. She had expected to find evidence of a Spacefleet career cut short by resignation or some sort of involuntary discharge. This was so much more... bizarre. And disturbing.

Unbidden, two words shrieked excitedly in her mind: Evil twin! She shook her head in self-disgust.

It's never twins, she tells her less mature side firmly.

She sits back to think about her next move.
OOC:
Can Cass have a phaser in the ready room? Or would she need to request one from security?
Mar 13, 2019 5:10 pm
OOC:
I love that Cass' go-to is evil twin. That's hilarious!

OOC:
Lav: Probably. Wanna risk it?
