Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

bowlofspinach says:
"There are only a few hundred of us. There are billions, maybe trillions, of you. What difference does it make to your species if we inhabit some of you - not more than we need?"
He slowly rises from his chair, even though his hands still handcuffed to the chair behind his back. You can hear skin tear on his hands as he slowly but steadily pulls them through the tight cuffs. A bone cracks in his hand but he doesn't let the pain - if he even feels it - stop him for even a second. "I am proposing coexistence. You are advocating genocide."
Cass keeps her seat and her cool, but boy, it's not easy. That ripping his hands out of the cuffs is nauseating. But this species is governed by a queen, and if she's to earn any respect for humanoids, Cass figures she needs to keep her manner imperious and queenly. Flinching from an implied threat from someone beneath her station would not be queenly.

"I am advocating," she says, narrowing her eyes at his disrespect, "that you recognize that all sentient species have a right to exist, not just yours. If you will do that, the Consortium would be willing to start talks for finding a solution to your problem."
OOC:
I'm not sure how Cass can receive Moira's message. She's not carrying a data pad right now. Lav, were you envisioning it coming to her comm badge?
Mar 14, 2019 7:14 pm
OOC:
Ah, snap.
When Moira realizes she doesn't have the data pad, she sends three static bursts just to Cassano.
Mar 14, 2019 7:19 pm
The three static bursts suggest that someone is trying to reach her - probably Moira. But this feels like a crucial moment in her encounter with Mr. Click, so Cass maintains steely eye constant with him. Moira probably has something worthwhile to do but it will have to wait a moment.
Mar 14, 2019 7:22 pm
The man is fully standing now. His hands are bleeding and one of his thumbs is clearly broken to the point where a bone is sticking out of the wounds but he is free from the cuffs. He is standing tall, close to Cass, very close to the force field, but he does not reach out towards her.
"I am willing to negotiate. Are you willing to at least consider giving us what we require to survive?"
Mar 14, 2019 7:36 pm
Cass comes to her feet, unhurried, and tries to maintain a regal bearing. She knows she's as close to the force field as he is. Still maintaining eye contact, she says, "I am willing to consider helping you to survive. I am not willing to sacrifice other beings to do that. But," she raises a hand to stop the reaction she is certain that will provoke, "I am certain we can find an alternative that will allow your species to survive, even thrive." She has no idea what that would be, but hey - that's the job of the queen's science-y types, not Her Majesty.

"But before I will agree to that, I will need a show of good faith from you."
Mar 14, 2019 7:40 pm
He squints at you. He does not seem convinced. He's taller than you and he's fully using that to try and undermine the aura of authority you're maintaining.
"A show of good faith? And what would that be?"
Mar 14, 2019 8:00 pm
Cass has been up against taller men who tried to intimidate her physically before. This is just another Tuesday. Of course, they usually hadn't mangled their own hands in a show of disregard of physical pain, but then again, they didn't have new bodies to hop into afterward.

She gives a cool, slightly condescending smile. "You don't appreciate the reality of what I can offer you. Look around. We humanoids accomplish so much, while your species is relegated to stealing what we have. We have physical continuity of our bodies - one body for one's entire lifetime - while you are forced to steal other species' bodies and use them up in what amounts to a heartbeat for us. Is that pathetic existence really what you're fighting to maintain? I'm offering your people an opportunity to really live, not merely flit from one inadequate host to the next. If we can do all of this--" she gestures as though to indicate the ship and so much more, "--we can certainly come up with a solution to your problem."

She huffs a tiny laugh at the absurd smallness of his vision. "But I see that you are too committed to a violent and desperate life. This negotiation is a waste of my time. I have many other things to do." She turns and starts walking toward the exit, saying, "Put him into a cargo container, since he appears unbothered by our restraints."

The bait has been dangled. She walks resolutely, hoping he will bite.
Mar 14, 2019 8:26 pm
Kendall grins, looking to see how the being will respond to this statement.

I really should keep digging into the data, to see if there is a way to accomplish whatever Cass is promising, but this is like watching a trainwreck! I can't take my eyes off of this, she thinks to herself.
Mar 14, 2019 8:42 pm
The man steps forward, attempting to follow Cass but he steps right into the force field. An electric discharge hits him and throws him back a bit, knocking him to the ground.
He gets up almost right away. Before Cass can leave the room, he growls at her: "I had hoped we could work together, my lady, but my sisters and I will get what we need. If it is war you want, then war is what you will get."
Cass, I assume you're looking away, but the other all see what happens next. The man's body starts convulsing and a thin pink liquid like blood mixed with saliva starts running out of his mouth. Within a second, the man collapses and is lying on the ground, shaking and groaning, his eyes rolled up so far that they appear completely white.

I roll lasers to crank the force field to "KO" levels.
OOC:
Edit: And I’ve killed us all. Sorry fam.

Moira slightly panics at this surprising sight. Trying to increase the force field strength, she overloads it and suddenly, the lights in the cargo bay turn off, leaving it in half darkness only illuminated by some emergency lights. The problem, however, is that it's not just the light that short circuited, but the force field generator, too.

Kendall draws and fires her phaser on stun, hitting the man to knock him out.

"Well, that was exciting. Commander, what’s next?"

You didn’t notice until just now, but she’s been chewing gum this whole time. She blows a bubble and pops it, then brings the popped gum back into her mouth, and starts to chew again.

OOC:
What. The actual. Fuck, Spinach.
Cass, already alerted by the reactions of those around her, turns around in time to see the pirate's disintegration before the lights, and the containment field, go out. She hits her comm badge. "Cassano to bridge. We have potential contamination in the cargo bay and the power is out. Initiate emergency isolation force field. No one in or out until Dr. Zlam has determined it's safe. Engineering, get the power back on, now." She cuts off the transmission. "Marbo, I need to know what's going on with the pirate. Darcy, what's the situation with the body?"

If it turns out to be that easy, I'm taking the rest of the day off, lol.

The second the lights turn off, the man's convulsions stop and when Kendall fires at him, he rolls out of the way immediately, avoiding the shot. He jumps up and charges at Cass. Kendall, give me a Lasers roll to shoot him before he reaches her.

Lasers, don’t fail me now!

The man jumps at Cass, his mouth wide open and his sharp teeth ready to sink into her flesh. Before he can reach her, though, Kendall's phaser shot hits him and he goes limp mid jump.
Cass, give me a Feelings roll, unprepared, no expert.

I would say, "Just kill me," but it seems superfluous.

Marbo will get as close to the infected as he can, drawing a handheld scanner and slowly phasing it over him. He tries his hardest to isolate rapid biological changes and any disruption to the hosts genetic code.

Cass, this is all happening within a few seconds and before you can react, you are hit with the heavy unconscious body of the pirate. It throws you to the ground and you are buried underneath it. The pinkish liquid slowly runs from his mouth onto you, burning your flesh wherever it lands on you.

Marbo, your scanner reads extremely high metabolic activity in the pirate's body. His body temperature is rising very quickly and all his body functions appear to be running much, much faster than they should.
