bowlofspinach says:
"Bridge here. We do not know yet. The ship is not replying to our hails." There's a pause. "Might be more pirates!"
OOC:
Way to go, Bridge. Great message discipline there. Carry on.

OOC:
If both their captain and their replacement captain weren't currently stored in glass tubes, maybe one of them could teach them some discipline...

bowlofspinach says:
Cass, you wake up. Your face and neck still burn slightly but overall, you feel very numb. You almost feel like you're floating but when you open your eyes, you see that you are trapped in a large cylinder of transparent plastic. The air in there smells like chemicals and is uncomfortably warm. Outside of the cylinder, you see the familiar surroundings of the Potential's sickbay. Marbo is running around, talking to nurses and doctors but you can't hear anything. You are completely isolated from all sounds from the outside.
To your right, you can see the stasis pod of Captain Darcy. He looks calm and peaceful, completely unaware of what has been happening on his ship in the last few hours.
Waking up in the tube isn't itself a terrifying experience. Being a pilot means you have a better-than-decent chance of ending up in an escape pod once in a while, and some of them aren't much bigger than this. No, it's the possible reason for waking up in this tube that sends Cass into a panic, once she's taken stock of the situation.

She remembers the pirate lunging at her with those strange pointed teeth... the impact of his body crushing her to the cargo bay floor... the unexpected searing pain as his acidic saliva (seriously, who has that?!) eats away at her face and neck...

What she doesn't remember, doesn't know, is what more might have been done to her.

Frantically, she begins to yell at the silent movie happening all around her. "Hey, Marbo! HEY!" When no one reacts, she tries pounding on the side of the tube. "Hey, somebody talk to me! Marbo, Belka! I need to know. Have I been wormed? Am I a parasite?"

Marbo, you hear a muffled banging sound from Cass' pod. She shouldn't be awake for another half hour at least yet but apparently, she is. And she seems to be panicking. You can see her screaming and punching the plastic tube around her. You can't hear what she's saying and you know she can't hear anything from the outside but there's a communication system with the inside of the tube. You can press a button on a panel next to her tube to open a channel and talk to her.

Marbo turns with a startled expression on his face. When he sees that its cass he waves casually and smiles, before approaching the tube and pressing the button.

"Commander. Zlam. You are alive! And inside a tube. Do not worry, it is a sterile environment to allow your grafts to bond safely. Risk of infection is very high. You will be released in half an hour or so." Marbo gives another big smile, glad to see that Cass is alive.
Mar 15, 2019 8:12 pm
OOC:
Ideally, she would have to stay another full day in there at least. Even if she doesn't want to stay that long, to be at least moderately safe from infection, Cass shouldn't leave the tube for a minimum of five hours. The half hour more was just how long you had estimated the sedatives to last.
Mar 15, 2019 8:16 pm
Cass finds herself unable to reconcile Marbo's casual cheerfulness with her panic, especially since he completely avoids giving her the only piece of information she's currently interested in. You're alive, you're inside a tube. No shit, fishboy! I know all that already.

"The parasite!" she says. Belatedly, she seizes on the fact that he referred to a "risk of infection." "Look, Marbo," she says urgently, "if there's the slightest chance that the parasite got inside me, I need to go through the transporter. Now. Right now. I don't care about any risks involved. The safety of the crew is at stake!"

Kendall starts the ship, and then messages the bridge again. "Bridge, this is Kendall F’brei, in shuttle bay X2, requesting permission to engage the enemy.

"Awaiting authorization."

This is all too familiar, reminding her of her Space fleet days.

OOC:
Is it safe to assume the surgery took longer than a couple minutes, Moira got a med pack during that, and she's back on the bridge with Darcy now?

There is no reply for a while, then you hear Darcy's voice over the comm: "Permission denied. We have no proof that these are pirates. These could just be civilians investigating the distress signal."
Her voice sounds on edge. Kendall, you are pretty sure that unlike Cass, Darcy doesn't think highly of the idea to involve a civilian in these matters.

OOC:
They would have kept Moira in sickbay for a while to check out her hands but then they would have allowed her to get back to the bridge. Yeah, I guess we can say she's there as well now.
Mar 15, 2019 8:49 pm
OOC:
Fair enough.
Moira buzzes back into the bridge muttering curses.

Twenty-three minutes. Sonofa - Oh. Lieutenant Commander. Tha Commander's gonna be fine. Tha nurses kept me there longer than ah wanted, an' ah apologize fer tha delay. They want yoo there next. What've we got?
Mar 15, 2019 8:58 pm
"One ship, unknown origin. Definitely not consortium. We're reading heavy weapons. We've hailed them, disguising the hail as coming from the Antarctica but they're not answering. We're operating under the assumption that they are associated with the pirates but we have no proof.", Darcy explains. "I'll go to sickbay once this situation is resolved, not earlier."
Mar 15, 2019 9:03 pm
Moira lets herself smile.

She's back...
Mar 15, 2019 9:17 pm
"No parasite. Just a bit of burnt skin and a case of the angries, apparently." Marbo hits a button, filling the tube with a low dose of a sedative. Not enough to knock the commander out, but enough for her to relax.

"Cassano must stay in the tube. As long as possible. Skin graft is rejecting, slightly. Must medicate and keep sterile to prevent full on necrosis of the external cutaneous layer of the dermis. Could be worse. Messenger who assaulted you did not carry any juveniles. His body was secured inside its own shielded coffin after Miss F'brei eviscerated him."
Mar 15, 2019 9:34 pm
Relief floods Cass' mind as she realizes she wasn't exposed to the parasite. One thing, just one thing that didn't go wrong today. She takes a deep breath, the first since she woke up. "Okay, good, that's good. But I can't stay in this tube, Marbo. You have to release me. We're in the middle of a pretty tricky situation."
Mar 15, 2019 10:24 pm
OOC:
Sorry for the delay, i mostly post while im at work, since my job can mostly be done by a script i wrote for it. but sometimes i actually have to get up and do stuff :C
"Marbo can not release you from the tube yet. You risk necrotising fasciitis of the face and neck if you leave too early. Marbo would feel responsible for ruining your face."

Marbo pauses, staring at cassano for an uncomfortably long minute.

"Marbo can be your eyes and ears outside of the tube though!"

He shrugs comically, all four arms rising as he cocks his head in sort of a "its the best i can do to prevent you suffering medical complications" smile.
Mar 15, 2019 10:36 pm
During the minute when Marbo is doing nothing but staring at her, Cass is seized by a strange thought: This must be what going mad feels like. It's strange because it almost feels like it comes from another universe entirely.

At his offer to be her "eyes and ears," Cass smiles patiently and says, "That'll be great, sure. Tell me the minimum amount of time I need to be in here. The absolute bare minimum, Marbo."

"Marbo could theoretically release you, as soon as he has some portable way for you to move about in a sealed environment. Marbo has done research. Old terran movie about a man in a synthetic polymer spheroid, to prevent bacteria and germs from reaching him.Marbo could make one. Replicators should be able to create a seamless environment."

Rolls

Lasers- Program the replicator to turn commander cassano into a bubble lady - (2d6)

"It wouldn't need to surround all of me, would it? Just my head and neck area?" Cass isn't sure she's really into this idea, but anything would be better than being immobilized in this pod.
