OOC:
Marbo, you already rolled for the surgery earlier but you managed to get the same result again so it doesn't even matter. I'll update you on the result later! If anyone else wants to do something at the moment, let me know as well

Cass sighs heavily. To Moira, she says, "You're still confined to quarters until further notice. You can expect disciplinary action, and you have some serious repair work to do with Darcy at an intensely personal level. But until this situation has resolved itself, stay alert and available by comm, and no sampling of your collection. That's an order."
HeroAmongMen says:
Kendall messages Cass: "Commander, I have a shot at destroying the ship. It's a risk, though. Sending the schematic map to you, with the red area signifying the weakness.

"I would volunteer to eradicate the threat. These things are something else."
OOC:
I'm going to treat this as though it comes in just as Cass leaves Moira's quarters.
"Negative! Keep that in your back pocket, but we have reason to believe our missing crew members are aboard that ship. I want them back."

Cass sprints toward the turbolift and steps out onto the bridge. Literally everyone turns to stare at her anti-infection suit.

"You oughta see the other guy," Cass quips. "Patch me into Capt. Tulak."

Kendall hated waiting the most when she was Space fleet spec ops. She hasn't had to wait on anyone else for a long time, and her trigger finger is getting twitchy.

She flexes and extends her fingers a few times, cracks her neck, and then patches into Cass: "Listen, Cass, are the enemy shields up at the moment?

"I would be willing to beam onto the enemy ship and take it down from the inside. You won't find any information on this in your computers, but that was what Karen was in Space fleet: special ops. I can work this angle while you work your angle."

While Cass waits for someone to patch her in to Capt. Tulak, she says, "Report. What's the current situation? Are everyone's shields up, ready to start blasting each other?"

Mezron explains: "All shields are up, all weapon systems are ready."
After a short moment, the screen lights up to show Captain Tulak. "Commander Cassano. It is good to see you are back on duty. Interesting choice of outfit", she says as she's looking on you helmet, which everyone's has been staring at so far but nobody has mentioned. "Apologies if that was impolite. How can I help you, commander?"

Cass smiles slightly at the comment on the helmet. "It was this or an isolation tube. I found this less confining. Captain, I'd like to know the status of your talks with the pirate ship, and to join them as an active participant. I've had a pretty extensive and illuminating conversation with an emissary, and I believe I have substantial insight into their goals and methods."
Mar 19, 2019 5:07 am
"Negotiations are almost at a standstill. They request the right to take people out of our crews to replace their dead. I have allowed them to recover their remaining crewmates from the first pirate ship they sent as a show of good faith but it seems they do not care for our good faith. I'll patch you into the communication."

Cass, the screen splits in two, one half still showing Captain Tulak, the other a very pale, sick looking, white haired woman in light body armor. "Another negotiator?", she comments dryly. "At this rate, I will have talked with every negotiator in spacefleet soon."
Mar 19, 2019 5:20 am
"As it happens," Cass says, "I am the only Spacefleet representative who understands the situation of your race and has a prospective solution that would allow your people to survive without kidnapping unwilling humanoids."

She sits down in the captain's chair, making a show of settling in comfortably. "I know your true form, how it integrates into a host, and at least some of what you are capable of doing with a host body. I know that you once used animals native to your home world as hosts, but eventually outgrew their lack of sophistication. I know that your numbers are desperately low and you are in dire need of more hosts than you are able to find. My question for you is - are you open to a solution that would not require forcing yourselves upon unwilling sentient species?"
Mar 19, 2019 5:26 am
Tulak gives you an approving nod as you lay out the information you have.
The pale woman stares at you, apparently trying to figure you out. After a short moment, she says: "What kind of solution are you talking about?"
OOC:
Robb, I haven't forgotten you! I just don't have enough time tight now to write your death scene. I mean the operation. I'll post it in a bit.
Mar 19, 2019 5:29 am
"Are you saying that you would consider a solution that allowed your people survival and autonomy without demanding other species sacrifice members to your needs?" Cass asks.
Mar 19, 2019 5:42 am
"No", she replies. "I said that I am willing to listen to your proposal"
Mar 19, 2019 5:52 am
Cass smiles coldly. "Yes, I've seen your representative demonstrate that tactic already. I engage extensively in a good faith attempt to understand your concerns and offer proposals for our mutual benefit, while you simply wait for me to stop speaking and engage in an underhanded attack. I'm not here for a repeat engagement of that particular show."

She leans forward in the chair. "What I'm proposing could change life for your entire species for the better. It could ensure the survival of all your currently unjoined symbiotes and give you the breathing room to increase your numbers. If that is truly something you would like to have, if you aren't just more interested in subjugating unwilling humanoids than in true freedom and safety for your people, then you're going to have to explicitly tell me that before I go on."
Mar 19, 2019 6:05 am
Robb, in the isolation of the airlock you open up the containment field and begin surgery. You cut open the dead body of the pirate and extract the parasite. It is a disgusting creature, the size of a human forearm, dark green, in appearance similar to an oversized slugs but with meaty wrinkles all over its body. Some thin tendrils hang off its heavy body and it is covered completely in human blood.
It appears weak and lifeless, drained from the long time it had been forced to spend outside of a host body.
Without much difficulty, you insert it into the crude robot body and attach it to the system. You close the container it is in and look over your work. The feeding material in the container starts to wilt away almost immediately, turning light grey in color and shrinking into a small, slimy pile.

You don't notice anything wrong until, in a moment of carelessness, one of the robot's primitive pincer claws grips your arm painfully tight. By your calculations, the creature should have taken some time to learn how to control the robot, at least an hour.
You can see the parasite's mandibles move as they produce a series of clicking noises. The universal translator interprets its clicking to you as: "Take me to Captain Tulak right now!"
Its claw keeps digging into your skin painfully.
Mar 19, 2019 6:09 am
Cass, the pirate seems uncomfortable with your request but also clearly wants to hear what you have to say.
After a long silence, she replies: "We are willing to consider your proposal, assuming it is beneficial to our people, as you are saying. I do not make any guarantees that we are going to implement it, however. Even if I wanted to, I do not have the authority for such a decision."
Mar 19, 2019 6:19 am
Cass nods knowledgeably. "Yes, I suppose this is really a matter for your queen." She wonders how Marbo is doing with transplanting the symbiote into the artificial body. "But I can give you the high-level view. As you know, our technological capabilities are quite advanced. We have it in our power to manufacture bodies that you could control just as well as living hosts. We're willing to negotiate an arrangement for this, but it will require that you return to us all captive humanoids immediately and that you cease all your ambush and kidnapping activities at once. That is non-negotiable. I will give you a few minutes to consider this."

She makes the "cut" sign to Mezron and waits until the connection with the pirate captain has been severed before engaging a comm connection with Marbo. "Cassano to Zlam. How's the operation going, doc?"
Mar 19, 2019 7:47 am
After waiting this long for a response from Cass, Kendall is fed up, and decides to head to sickbay to talk to Cassano.
Mar 19, 2019 9:02 am
Kendall, you can move freely through the ship. When you arrive at sickbay, Dr. Belka tells you that Cass has left and is on the bridge. He also tells you about Marbo's experiment.
Mar 19, 2019 9:15 am
OOC:
Question: Has anyone sent the coordinates that Kendall managed to get from the pirate ship to the Antarctica?

OOC:
Cass did respond to Kendall. She told her that she was back in command and told her that she was pretty sure the shields were up. I also didn't say that she closed the comm feed, so she could have been listening to the whole negotiation.

I'm trying very hard to keep all the different threads together, but it's pretty challenging.
