Chapter IIa: Absolute Disaster

"Anything I can help you with, commander? This shouldn't take too much longer, I hope.", Darcy asks, trying to move the conversation away from her neglect to go to sickbay earlier
Mar 23, 2019 9:49 pm
Dr. Belka, I need a minute with the lieutenant commander," Cass says pleasantly.
Mar 23, 2019 9:52 pm
"Just a minute, though. I want to take care of these burns sooner rather than later.", he says as he walks away to work at a terminal while you're talking
Mar 23, 2019 9:55 pm
Cass pulls a small chair to the bedside and speaks at a volume meant for Darcy only. "So I can't help wondering why you misled me into thinking you'd gotten these wounds treated. Did I somehow lead you to believe I wanted you to suffer? Because I promise that was only a fleeting thought from quite a few hours ago." She smiles to show that this is mostly a joke.

Marbo is sitting there fidgeting with a disassembled medical scanner that's been broken longer than any of the crew can remember.

If he's going to be stuck in sickbay he can at least do something productive, no matter how trivial.

"Pulaski! Antiseptic solution and protein gauze patches will be required for Darcy." he says. Stopping himself before Belka gives him trouble for "working"
Mar 23, 2019 10:03 pm
"I'm sorry, commander. I know I should have gotten this done earlier but there was so much going on. I was just going to wait for a better time. It didn't seem that bad." She smiles, acknowledging your joke. "And trust me. If I had thought you wanted me to suffer, I would have gone to sickbay right away."
Mar 23, 2019 10:05 pm
Cass chuckles, but she doesn't believe that explanation for a second. She pivots. "How about the knuckle wounds? What happened there?"
Mar 23, 2019 10:07 pm
Belka half-turns to Marbo and says: "Remember, Doctor. No working, or I'll confiscate your translator!"
Mar 23, 2019 10:13 pm
Darcy looks to the ground. She seems embarrassed. "When I received that comm, you know, the one from the holodeck, I needed to hit someone. Since the person responsible wasn't available, the wall in my father's ready room had to suffice."
Mar 23, 2019 10:15 pm
"Oh." That makes a lot of sense, actually. "Okay, I can understand that. Do you still want to punch... someone?"
Mar 23, 2019 10:43 pm
"Why? Are you offering yourself?" She looks around the room, her eyes resting on Marbo for a moment. "When I found out it had been Bruce, I wanted to walk into her quarters and hit her, maybe break her nose. But right now, I only want to stop these parasites. I don't know about after that."
Mar 23, 2019 10:45 pm
"Belka. Zlam. I wish for nutrition. Please prepare a kelp tea, and shrimps from the replicator."

Marbo chirps. If he's stuck here as a patient, he expects the full patient treatment. Spongebaths, hot meals on request, he'll even make Belka wash his arse if that's what it takes to get him discharged back to service.

Marbo chuckles loudly to himself, the mental image of a senior ranking medical officer having to scrub marbo "blowhole" amuses him greatly.
Mar 23, 2019 10:49 pm
"I can't tell without a mirror, but I'm pretty sure my face can't take any more punishment," Cass says. "I don't blame you for how you feel. It's a valid and justified emotional response. And I appreciate that you're focused on the job at hand. I just felt that I should check in to make sure there's nothing else under the surface that you're keeping to yourself, because this next part of the mission, we're going to be separated. I'll be commanding the pirate ship, which means you'll be in charge of the Potential. I want us to be on the same page about everything by the time that happens. So is there anything else I should know?"
Mar 23, 2019 10:49 pm
Belka rolls his eyes. He turns towards a nurse but before he can say anything, he changes his mind and walks up to a replicator, orders a kelp tea and sits it down at Marbo's night stand. "Here you go, Doctor."
Without waiting for a reply, he turns around to go back to the terminal he was working at

OOC:
OMFG, I can't believe this is happening while Darcy and Cass are having a heart-to-heart! LMAO

Darcy stays silent for a while. "No, commander. There is nothing else you need to know. I'm ready to take command of the Potential while you are on the pirate vessel. There will be no problems from my side."
Mar 24, 2019 12:03 am
Cass starts to pat Darcy's shoulder before thinking better of it, given the burns. She settles for a nod. "Good! I'm glad I have you to rely on, Cass. Now, there's just one more thing." She leans forward in the chair, her elbows on her knees. "I want you to keep in mind that the priorities for this mission are to rescue the missing away team and keeping the Potential and the rest of her crew out of enemy hands. If they retake the pirate ship they already had, that represents a much smaller loss than if they gain possession of ours. So if things go sideways, you need to know where the line is for cutting our losses."

She stands up and says to Belka, "She's all yours, Doc. Get her patched up. She has work to do."

Who the hell is "cassava?" :D
Cass stops and comes back to see Marbo. She'd actually been heading over to visit Captain Darcy's stasis tube, but she should definitely check in with her temperamental chief medical officer. "Yes, but first you have healing to do. The more you rest, the faster you heal, the sooner you get to work. It's a simple algorithm, Marbo." She sits down by his bedside. She's starting to feel like a social worker.

I have a couple of small things I want Cass to do before they start the sting operation with the pirates, so I'll go ahead and post them now, because you're all offline and who's gonna stop me, huh? HUH? But seriously, if you want your character to react to anything Cass did in the previous posts, don't let this post stop you from quoting that and writing your thing.
After she's finished talking to Marbo, Cass quietly makes her way to the stasis tube containing Captain Darcy. Settling down beside him, she looks around to ensure no one is paying attention and flips on the communication system.

"Hey, Captain. I don't know whether you can hear anything when you're in stasis, but I'm not a scientist so I can assume it's possible. Things might get kinda crazy here in a while - well, honestly, things have been nothing but crazy ever since you went under. I've been doing the best that I can, but honestly, that fact isn't much to be proud of. So I guess I just want to say I'm sorry that the first time you needed me to step up and lead in your place, I let things get out of hand almost immediately. I know you took a risk in promoting me, and I hope you won't regret that too much once you've recovered and find out what happened while you were out of commission. And just in case I don't get the chance to say this to you in person, you've been a great mentor to me, and it's been an honor serving under you."

She flips the switch on the communicator, then flips it back on. "And one other thing, sir. It's none of my business, the relationship you have with your daughter, but if you'll pardon my overstepping a little... you might want to take a good look at her when you wake up. I think it would do you both a lot of good for her to hear that you're proud of her."
