Chapter IIb: On Your Own

Alex seems prepared to argue, mouth opening with a quick retort, but she swallows it before it’s spoken. "If you think you can manage that, I’m willing to go along."

"Whatever it is, we need to decide and act soon. We’re playing on borrowed time, and who knows when it’s going to run out."

if you can jam the sensors quickly, do it. A message is priority one though. Work on the jamming and I will send a message from the runabout.
OOC:
I assume that since we got the thing working I would know how to send a message and turn on the homing beacon.
Lorq walks on to the smaller ship and goes to the comm and sends an open hail

Attention all Consortium ships. We are surviving crew from ships attacked by pirates. Please send help.
OOC:
I will include coordinates and the names of the survivors, put it on repeat, and turn on the homing beacon.
Mar 16, 2019 9:49 pm
OOC:
Lorq, that's no problem at all. However, the pirates will definitely pick up this message and know where it came from, so it might get dangerous for you in the hangar bay.

Zephyr, there's a terminal in the hangar bay that you can use to try and override their sensors but you'll have to give me a Lasers roll
Mar 16, 2019 9:55 pm
OOC:
I think it is worth the risk. Rescue is important. I am going to try a laser roll to see if I can do something to stop the pirates from stopping the message if they get on the shuttle. Also, I will search it for any weapons that may be stored on it.

Rolls

Comm override - (1D6)

(6) = 6

Mar 16, 2019 11:17 pm
Zephyr approaches the terminal and tries to override the sensor control system.

Rolls

Lasers - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Alex gestures to Ensign Meyers and waves her to follow. While Lorq and Zephyr work their technical magic, Alex goes to stand near the entrance to the hold. She grabs a nearby piece of metal pipe that must have been waiting for some engineering tech to do some repairs, and hands one to the ensign. "Anyone comes through the door, take them down. Enough to knock them out, not enough to kill them. Unless you feel more comfortable with a phaser rifle."

Whichever the ensign chooses, Alex waits beside the entrance with makeshift weapon in hand.

Meyers looks at you for a second, slightly confused. "Um, thanks for the offer, but I think I prefer the phaser."
She takes position next to the door.

Lorq, you try to send out the distress signal when the runabout computer suddenly locks you out. You must have triggered some sort of security system and it requires authorization by a high ranking officer from the USS Verdun.
Zephyr, you're sitting at the terminal for a while. You're trying to override the sensors but it's not working. Eventually, the same thing happens that has also happened to Lorq. The console gets blocked and requires a USS Verdun officer's authorization to reconnect.
Mar 17, 2019 6:06 pm
OOC:
Is the verdun the ship we are on? Am I from this ship? Have I seen any officers from the Verdun?
Mar 17, 2019 7:14 pm
OOC:
Yes, this ship is the USS Verdun, although I think none of you would know that. Actually, it's also written on the runabout, but before you got into the cargo hold, you didn't know the name of this ship. The other thread found that out after Zephyr was already on here. Lorq, you and Alex are from the USS Sigma and got kidnapped onto this ship with some other officers but you don't know where those are. You don't know who would be part of the Verdun crew but you have seen pirates around that were wearing Spacefleet uniforms that you are pretty sure were not stationed on the Sigma, so they might be from the Verdun
Mar 17, 2019 8:45 pm
Zephyr curses to himself as the screen locks him out.

"Great, now what do we do? Should we get out of this hangar area? I'm sure they know we're here now, so that makes us sitting ducks."

Alex looks a little crestfallen as the technical parts of the plan are revealed as failures. "No luck? Stars..." she says, shaking her head.

"We may not have a choice. If the runabout's not an option, we're going to have to find our way to a more robust comm array. It's not ideal, but we have to move," she says crisply and waves the men toward the door. "There won't be any bluffing our way through, so we'll have to be prepared to stun." Panic and stress seem to agree with her -- she's more forceful than before.

To Zephyr, she says, "What's our next best option for sending the message without having to take over the entire ship? Sickbay? Transporter room? Engineering?"
Mar 17, 2019 9:42 pm
OOC:
The bridge will probably be where most pirates are. Sickbay has working computers but can be locked out and since the pirates seem very interested in medical experiments, it might also be well guarded. Engineering should work well but it's hard to say how many people are down there. It's a critical area to protect when there's intruders loose in the ship
Mar 17, 2019 10:26 pm
"Medical doesn't seem like a good idea, isn't that where you were conducting the testing Lorq? Engineering may be our best bet, although I believe that means we're going to have to make our way through the interconnecting dorsal and up to the upper deck level, which is nearer to the bridge. The Turbo Lift should take us right there though...unless we want to try to be sneakier."

I was testing in medical and there always seemed to be guards about. I guess engineering is the best bet. I think sneaky may be better unless they can scan for us, in which case I guess speed would be more important.

"My vote is for the sneaky way to engineering," Alex says. "I’d rather not take our chances with meeting more pirates with phasers. I don’t think I’m going to be able to baffle anyone with my verbal contortions now that they’re looking for us."
Mar 18, 2019 2:18 am
Sneaky way it is keep eyes open before and aft and hope for luck.

You slowly make your way through the corridors. This ship is of a very different design than the Potential, so Zephyr, you wouldn't know how to get to Engineering. However, Lorq and Alex, the Verdun, while not identical to the Sigma, is very similar in design so you quickly get to Engineering without encountering any pirates on the way there. You reach the door to Engineering but you can't tell from the outside whether there will be people in there or not. What do you do?
Mar 18, 2019 4:50 am
OOC:
Point of order: if we approached the door, and it was unlocked, it would open on its own, yes?
Mar 18, 2019 4:54 am
OOC:
Yes, I think that happens automatically without you having to give any further input except walking up to it
Mar 18, 2019 5:23 am
OOC:
Well...I guess if it is going to open, we should be on alert...laser weapon up front, everyone else ready to get behind cover.
Let's be ready for anything. Try not to get in each other's way, and not get killed or taken over by bugs.
