Chapter III: Reunited

Mar 27, 2019 7:29 pm
Cass, all preparations have been made. You are on the bridge of the pirate ship, carrying the Potential in your tractor beam behind you. Everything has been set up and you are ready to put your plan into action. Mezron and Davis are with you, running the ship.
Darcy is on the Potential's bridge, commanding the rest of the crew that you left there. Moira, as acting second in command, you are on the bridge as well, probably monitoring the adjustments you made to the Potential, namely, the biofilter gates. Kendall has been - against Darcy's wishes - put in charge of a security team, ready to intervene if any pirates manage to come aboard. Marbo is recovering in sickbay, although by the time you leave warp, Belka allows you to move around and resume work again, although he does warn you to not exhaust yourself too much.
After about an hour in warp, you reach the coordinates of the distress beacon and fall out of warp. In front of you, there's a single spacefleet ship, still some distance away. Everyone with access to a viewscreen who had been present during the initial kidnapping of your crewmates recognizes it as the USS Verdun, the ship that led the ambush against you...
Zephyr, you are leaning back in a chair, letting Lorq stitch up your wounds (Lorq, give me a Lasers roll). Meyers is sealing all entrances to the bridge and setting up security alarms. Alex, you suddenly notice a light blinking on a console close to you. When you go to inspect it, a readout tells you that two more ships have just entered the system...

"Two ships entering the system!" Alex calls out. "Let's hope one of them is the Potential, shall we?" She sets her rifle on a nearby console and begins working away to identify the new arrivals. "Meyers, help me figure out who our visitors are. If they're friendly, let's get them on screen."

Laser feeling edit:
While she's working with Meyers to identify the new arrivals, Alex adds, "While we're at it, let's lock down the hangar bays and prevent commands from outside of the bridge."
OOC:
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'd be an expert with communications systems, even though I'd be rusty. Disregard the second die if you don't agree.

Kendall tells the security team: "Alright, boys and girls! Stay frosty! We don't know what's gonna happen."

Kendall schools the security personnel in some basic hand-to-hand maneuvers to use to subdue the enemies if it comes to it, while they wait for some action.

Alex, Laser Feeling! What do you want to know?
Mar 27, 2019 7:46 pm
Feeling a flutter in her stomach that she recognizes as a combination of nerves and anger, Cass pushes all emotion aside. "Initiate the canned message on a loop as a hail to the enemy ship," she says. They've created a very simple message in the slug clicking language that essentially says, "Communications array damaged in battle. USS Potential captured."

Going to make an assumption that Cass's message came after my laser feelings, and I can't ask about that.

So... nuts.

Okay... is there a way from here to prevent the shuttle from leaving this ship?

OOC:
You can easily close up all hangar bays. They can try to hack them open but it won't be easy if you lock all commands to the bridge

Original post edited in response to laser feeling.

Sorry if my post confused things.

OOC:
No, no... it's just that I would've asked if I could recognize the message as fake. Now we're just all going to think we're doomed. More so than we were. Par for the course, right?

OOC:
Yeah, I felt bad about going through with that, but we don't know you guys are in control of the bridge.

Alex, you receive a message from one of the incoming ships. When you put it on speakers, it is spoken in the clicking language of the pirates. When you put it through the universal translator, it translates as: "Communications array damaged in battle. USS Potential captured." All four of you on the Verdun's bridge can hear it.

Cass, Mezron confirms that the Verdun is receiving and hearing your message.

OOC:
Is anyone else picturing a "Gift of the Magi" situation, only with blood?
Mar 27, 2019 8:53 pm
OOC:
How much time passes without an acknowledgment from the Verdun?
Mar 27, 2019 8:56 pm
OOC:
Can't say yet. We'll have to wait and see how they react
Mar 27, 2019 8:57 pm
OOC:
NO. I want to know NOW.

OOC:
They shoot, you dead

Moira is religiously following the updates from her datapad about both the Potential and the pirate ship, though there's certainly less information on that. Was it really the same day as when this all started? Blazes.....

As the channel is opened, tension floods out of Alex's frame. Rescue is here!

And then the message comes through.

Color drains away from her face, and she looks to Meyers and Zephyr in sudden despair. "Now what do we do?" she asks. For once in her life, she's at a loss for words.
Mar 27, 2019 10:14 pm
Zephyr leaps up out of the chair while Lorq is still at work.

"Che diavolo?" he mutters to himself. He runs straight to the console to search for life signs aboard the Potential.
