Laser Feeling: I'm going to say yes, there is. If you set your phaser to the highest setting, you can blast the consoles behind the pirates which would take a lot of them out of the fight. However, that could also potentially hurt Moira (who is in trouble right now anyway) and possibly lead to trouble with the ship's systems (nothing that you couldn't work around, though)
OOC:
Let me know of Kendall changes her course of action or notMar 30, 2019 5:13 am
Cass, you and your two companions leave the pirate ship and fly towards the Potential. The firefight is still going on with the Potential and the pirate ship exchanging phaser bursts. You close in on the Potential's location and manage to stay in cover behind it for the most part.

Another phaser burst hits the Potential's shields and immediately, they return fire. Cass, Darcy calls you up:"We will drop shields right after their next shot. Get in immediately. We need to have our shields back up when they fire again!"
You get the runabout in position, lined up to the open hangar bay on the Potential and wait for another shot. It doesn't take long for the pirates to fire at the Potential again. The second their burst ends, the Potential drops shields and you fly full speed to the hangar bay. You make it inside, crash landing the runabout due to the high speeds. Mezron gets thrown out of her chair and hits the console in front of her. She lets out a yelp of pain but seems to be okay otherwise.
"Welcome back, Cassano!", Darcy announces. "If you're ready, please come to the bridge."

Cass helps Mezron up. "Sorry about that. I'd like to suggest you get checked out in sickbay, but I think they might be a little busy."
She leaves the runabout and the hangar bay and charges down the corridor to the nearest turbolift. The second the door opens, Cass storms onto the bridge, bellowing, "Captain on the bridge! Report!"

"The strange ship is still firing at us. Shields are down to fifteen percent but theirs can't be holding up much better.", Darcy explains. "What is going on with the away team?"
Mar 30, 2019 7:15 am
Cass isn't sure how to sum up what she read and heard coming from the Verdun. "Nothing good," is the best she can come up with under the rather pressing circumstances. "Hail the green ship. Let's see if we can start a dialogue prior to destroying each other."
Mar 30, 2019 7:29 am
Cass sits down in the captain's chair and the Ensign who's at the helm right now opens a channel to the pirate ship. They accept your communication but wait for you to speak first.

"This is Commander Shawna Cassano of the Consortium scout ship USS Potential. I understand that you are trying to perpetuate your species against some unique challenges. Before we blow each other into oblivion, maybe we could have a productive dialogue?"
Mar 30, 2019 8:16 am
"This is the captain of the spaceship Four. We are reading heavy damage to your shields. We are willing to open a dialog if you power down your weapon systems."
Mar 30, 2019 12:31 pm
"We're reading the same thing about your shields. Are you willing to power down your weapon systems?"

Kendall takes her phaser, and as she analyzes the situation (three enemies nearby and four more on the way), she waits for a second, putting her breathing mask on and sets her phaser to its highest setting, and shoots the panels behind them all.

The console explodes, shooting sparks into the group of infected that has Moira surrounded. The explosion caused confusion and some of the infected seem to get hit worse than others and fall to the ground.
Moira, give me a roll to see if you get hit by the explosion or even manage to use it to your advantage.
Cass
There is a pause, the parasite captain seems to be hesitant to agree but their shields are probably in at least as bad of a condition as yours because then Mezron informs you that they are powering down weapon systems, although they are keeping them on standby, ready to power up again at a moment's notice.

Moira wants to curse at Kendall, but in the current situation, she'd take a spitfire civvy over a traitor Slug-Zephyr any day.

Moira, as the console explodes behind you and you get hit with a minor shockwave, the infected around you stumble, giving you an opening to get free and rejoin the rest of the group. You still have a nasty looking bite in your shoulder though.
The newly arrived infected begin shooting immediately, focused on Kendall and Alex. Can you two give me a Feelings roll to evade, please?

Alex ducks back behind the console she’s using for cover, cursing loudly and creatively, questioning the parentage of just about everyone and everything: the pirates, the engineers who built the Verdun, Zephyr, and three or four other names that aren’t familiar to anyone else. Apparently, Zephyr has some recent ancestors who were dogs. Or possibly goats. It’s hard to hear in the commotion

She taps out a written message on the datapad and shows it to Darcy. Try Moira's comm. Tell her to get the Verdun's shields down ASAP.
Reopening audio with the "spaceship Four," Cass says, "I'm aware that your species is just trying to find a way to continue. That's a natural and understandable desire, and it's one that the Consortium would be sympathetic to, if you'd just consider pursuing a diplomatic option. There is no need for this to proceed into outright war. And it will, I promise you, if your people continue on this path.
"The Consortium has been kept apprised of recent developments and is working on both a military response and a diplomatic one. I suspect that those decisions are going to happen far above you and I, but couldn't we two, here and now, elect to pause the local hostilities long enough to see if we, as individuals, can find some hope of common ground between our peoples?"

Kendall, Alex, you both manage to avoid the phaser fire directed at you. After Kendall's maneuver and the many shots fired by the security team, the attacking infected are thinning, their assault is almost at an end. Everyone still involved in the fight, give me one more roll, Laser or Feeling, whichever you think is appropriate, and tell me what you are doing. I'll wrap up the combat after receiving messages from Alex, Kendall and Moira. Lorq and Zephyr are unconscious, so they'll have to sit this out unfortunately.
Cass, you receive another reply: "We do not see any possibility for a peaceful solution since you have been unwilling to consider giving us hosts to inhabit but we are willing to listen to any reasonable proposition. I am unable to make these kinds of decisions for my people but if I see the possibility of a peaceful arrangement, I am willing to present it to the queen."
(Cass, are you powering down the Potential's weapon systems?)
