Unfortunately, what you manage to come up with does not work as you had wished it would. You can basically flood your bodies with poison that is mostly harmless to most humanoids. The toxins will stay in your body for a day and if a slug enters the body of someone infected by these toxins, it should get poisoned and die before being able to link up to the host's nervous system. However, these toxins are not completely harmless to the humanoid hosts. There are a lot of side effects that can occur to the hosts, especially if taking them multiple days in a row. Those go from light nausea which can conceivably already occur during the first time using it all the way to death if the toxins are ingested too often in a row

Lorq, Marbo, you go into the lab together and Lorq looks over the massive amounts of data sent over by the parasites as well as the attempts at formulating a vaccine that Marbo has already done before the meeting. He hadn't been able to get it to work but Lorq sees some small areas for improvement and the two spend an hour or two working out the best possible vaccine they can come up with.

Moonbeam says:
He's right, Cass doesn't like the idea of them bringing in a humanoid host for one of the parasites that will be restored, but it's gratifying that her opinion seems to matter to him at least a little. It suggests that she does have at least some leverage. "Who have you chosen as the host? Anyone I would know?"Apr 16, 2019 5:36 am
A flipping feeling in the pit of her stomach tells Cass that she really doesn't want to know the scientist's name right now. She moves on. "May I ask what's different about the person you're bringing the host for?"

Well Marbo, I don't think this is optimal. Maybe if we bring in another set of eyes, maybe a xenobiologist. So far, we are just killing them more slowly.

Cass:
The captain seems to notice your discomfort with this but does not comment on it. "She is Second Generation, a direct offspring of the queen. That might not mean much to you but it does to our people."

Cass gives a little shrug. "I think I can understand. Lineage was once very important in my culture, as well." She pauses. Now she's the one with unwelcome news to deliver.
"Captain, I've discussed the prospect of the exchange with my senior staff. I'm afraid we're not comfortable, at this point in time, with accompanying you to your home base. We have, however, come up with a method of conducting the exchange that respects the needs and safety of both parties." She explains Moira's suggestion of docking the ships together and allowing the symbiotes' reconstitution to take place directly on the Four.

"That is unfortunate", the captain responds. "but given your initial experiences with our people, understandable. If we want to find a permanent agreement between our races, this step has to be taken eventually. But maybe not today and maybe not by you." After listening to your proposal, he say: "That seems reasonable. If you could have your chief engineer send over the details of this procedure before we initiate it, I would appreciate that very much. If you wish to have the exchange take place in this system, I will have a ship bring in our captives and we can proceed as soon as they arrive."
Apr 16, 2019 6:45 am
Cass nods. "I will have my chief engineer send over the details of the procedure as soon as she is finished drawing them up. I think conducting the exchange in this system makes sense. As I've mentioned, we have a second Spacefleet ship arriving soon, and I'm told it will also bring additional orders from my superiors. I don't know what they might contain, but I have no reason to believe they will significantly impact the agreements you and I are reaching."
A thought strikes her, and she closes her eyes for a moment. This is going to be embarrassing.
"In the interest of full disclosure, captain, I should probably tell you that during the encounter I had with one of your kind here on the Potential - the one who attacked me and, later, my chief medical officer - we engaged in some subterfuge. At the time, we were letting them believe that they were on the ship we were using as a decoy, so I told them that I was Captain Tulak. We didn't know much about your people at the time and were trying to learn as much as we could. I said a number of things intended to draw out more details about your species." She can feel herself beginning to blush as she recalls her ridiculous "queenly" performance, but then her memory skips ahead to the parasite's acid saliva burning through her face and neck and she's back on track.
"Anyway, since we're about to return that person to you, I thought you should hear those details from me first."

"Understood" He does not seem like this information is particularly surprising or relevant to him. "We will stand by for the time being. If the orders from your superiors affect our deal, please inform me as soon as possible."
Unless you want to add anything else, he is going to end the connection.

A few uneventful hours pass, giving the crew some time to relax or continue working on their projects. Although you're in space and there is no real day and night cycle here, the internal clocks of the Potential show that it is way past the regular end of all of your shifts by this point and you can feel yourself getting exhausted. Some of you might want to sleep during the wait for the other ships to arrive, some might push their way through the exhaustion and keep working.
The parasites do not contact the Potential, even after a second ship, almost identical in design to the Four arrives in the system. You can see shuttles going back and forth between the two ships and you can pick up encrypted communications between the ships.
Eventually, Cass receives a message from the bridge, informing her that the Consortium spaceship USS Dove will arrive shortly in the system and that its captain has already sent out a communications request, something which should not be necessary since you would be assumed to talk to him as soon as he arrives anyway.

OOC:
Everyone, let me know what you are doing in the time we've skipped. If you don't have any plans, I'll assume you're just catching some sleep in this time. If you're planning on doing anything else in that time, you'll have to start dealing with some exhaustion from now onApr 16, 2019 11:43 am
OOC:
Moira will do what she can about the plans "while Cass is talking" and then get some sleep when she's done. If it's my idea, can I roll all 3?EDIT: For LF, I'd like to know what the hardest part of this process would be. Or rather, the part most likely to fail, please.

This is my changed action from my LF.That was a weird shore leave.
Still, she's running out of ideas. After sending her insights about the docking system to the datapads, she uncorks the liquor. She takes a swig and settles down for a nap.
OOC:
I'm rolling at least prepared. Can I say expert if she's done this before?Rolls

Upon receiving word of the communications request from the captain of the USS Dove, she says, "Open a channel to the Dove. Apparently, something can't wait until they're here."

Not expecting anything major to happen until the new Consortium ship arrives, everyone lies down to get some rest. Cass, Alex and Lorq go to sleep immediately. Moira stays up for a while to work out the last flaws with their ship linking plan but when she can't get any results, she also decides to take a break for now. However, she takes a big sip of "vision inducing" liqueur before going to sleep, hoping it can provide her with some insight into the situation.
.
Moira wakes up, drenched in sweat and disoriented for a moment until she realizes where she is. She feels lightly hungover but nothing she can't handle.
It feels like she hasn't slept at all but according to the shops clock the period of rest is almost over and she has to get ready to return to duty.
The others also wake up and return to duty.

Finally feeling a bit refreshed and in as right a mind as she ever finds herself, Alex arrives on the bridge just as the commander is requesting a channel to the new Spacefleet arrival. "This ought to be good," she murmurs dryly as she takes an appropriate seat. "I should've gone to a replicator for some popcorn."
Apr 16, 2019 10:51 pm
Moira stumbles down the corridors to the bridge. She leans on Alex's chair, flapping her arm weakly at Cassano in something resembling a wave.
This ship needs a feckin' counselor....
She realizes that Alex is sitting in the chair she's leaned on.
Is she busy?
