Mission: Danger Room Security Testing

Jun 3, 2019 8:33 pm
With the new worry of super beings, aliens, Atlantans, and Meta-humans, Taft industries begins testing for anti-villain security. without the ability to approach villains, instead they approach heroes, to help test their new security software, and weapons. This will be done late afternoon in the Banking ward.
Jun 4, 2019 3:57 pm
Jeffery will volunteer for the security testing. He will be in costume as his alter ego, Captain Mystical.

The Taft Industries has advertised at 8pm for any interested heroes for pay to come to the Banking Ward and come prepared for battle, though none of the defense mechanisms are meant to kill injury is possible though the pay off is more than the average factory worker would make in 2 years.

The idea of helping authorities increase their ability to track and restrain citizens, because come on, there is no way that those in power will let any tool they can use go unabused. BUT, if Angie could get an inside look at what they were planning it would give her a leg up when they did come for her and her people. And the money was a plus if she was being honest with herself.

Looking down on the test sight from high above Darkhound wonders how to proceed. She settles on trying for a grand entrance...full superhero landing. Judging the distance to the ground she concentrates. The breathing out more Black Miasma the cloud beneath her thickens up and she opens a portal through it. Two feet above the ground a black cloud appears as the exit for her and Darkhound drops through and down to one knee and punching at the ground (but not actually hitting it because that would hurt.)

"Name's Darkhound. I'm here about the job."
Jun 5, 2019 4:27 pm
The testing faculty advertised is a technology and science testing center, it takes up about a street block of space, you're lead into the center, and find yourself in a rather large empty room about the size of a basketball court. The engineer leading you there, asks Do you have any advert weaknesses or allergies we should be aware of?
Jun 5, 2019 9:42 pm
As he is escorted into the central room of the testing center Jeffrey sees a familiar face although, he has to admit, he did not know the woman well. He walks up to her and says, "Hello. You look familiar but I don't recall your name. I'm called Captain Mystical." He reaches out his right hand.
Jun 6, 2019 3:13 am
To the engineer Darkhound responds, "Nothing of note."

Turning to Mystical she accepts the handshake and says, "Yeah, Darkhound is my name. I...uh..yeah, I've been around."
Jun 6, 2019 4:54 pm
The engineer clicks his pen and makes some notes, Also Alias and any emergency contact information? Don't worry I caught the name Darkhound.
Jun 6, 2019 6:20 pm
Jeffrey looks at the engineer quizzically. "You didn't hear me? Captain Mystical? And I don't have any emergency contacts. I drink alone."
Jun 7, 2019 2:46 am
Another click of the pen and several more notes, the engineer looks like he hasn't slept in probably a day or two, stress related no doubt.
Jun 8, 2019 7:57 pm
At this point the Engineer leaves the room, and a wall rises up with clear glass revealing the engineer with what you can only assume is a control panel on the other end.
Jun 8, 2019 8:24 pm
Jeffrey assumes a defensive pose with his head on a swivel. He's expecting any type of attack that may come from anywhere. He motions to Darkhound to step near him as he begins to accumulate the moisture in the air and attempts to create a fog as large as he can to hide them. He whispers to Darkhound to move randomly within the fog.
Jun 8, 2019 9:11 pm
While within the fog add an additional +2 to your defenses for avoiding attacks.
Jun 11, 2019 5:45 pm
At once 3 robotic arms appear from the floor and attempt to fire lasers into the fog 1 on Captain Mystic and 2 on Darkhound.

Though through the mist it seems the lasers fire wildly and missed far and wide from our heroes.

(5) + 4 = 9

Jun 11, 2019 9:39 pm
Jeffrey steps lightly listening for the movement of the robotic arms and feels with his hands in front of him to make sure he doesn't bumble into one.
Jun 11, 2019 9:49 pm
They shouldn't be difficult to spot though they are right out of the fog, and as such exiting the fog would be the only way to hit them with a Melee attack.
Jun 11, 2019 9:52 pm
OOC:
Didn't want to hit them. Just wanted to know where they were to understand what we need to avoid. Is there any way that Jeffrey can tell anything more about them, like do they swivel and if they do, do they make any noise doing it? Another test he would like to make is to see if they responded to sound or movement.
Jun 12, 2019 3:58 am
OOC:
As far as you can tell they are on robotic arms coming out of the floor, (unlikely to move from standing place) as far as a test for if they respond to sound I'm not sure how you could do that without tossing a rock or something which there are none in this empty room.
Jun 12, 2019 10:29 pm
OOC:
One skill that an illusionist could easily possess is the ability to project his voice.
While standing just inside the edge of the fog Jeffrey will project his voice to the far corner of the room saying, :Hey, over here." He will poke his head out of the mist to see if there is a reaction out of any of the robot arms.
Jun 13, 2019 12:54 am
The arm fires a shot, though it seems to bounce perfectly in-between the voice and your own standing.

OOC:
Jeffrey is mentally ticking off the shortcomings of the defense system as he continues testing it.
Jun 13, 2019 10:06 pm
OOC:
This is obviously not the system the Industry had hoped for.
As the engineer adds additional notes, he adds a few more corrections to the board hoping for some change.
OOC:
I will allow for another 24 hours before I react without dark hound response, but she seems to have gone MIA.
Jun 16, 2019 8:48 pm
OOC:
So, the robots are not very good at tracking sound and they also don't seem to be able to track heat signatures nor can they track movement within the fog.
"Engineer, you can stop the test now. I've got a good idea of what improvements need to be made," Jeffrey calls out.
Jun 17, 2019 12:22 am
Oh no this is only stage one The engineer speaks into a microphone that booms over the room, I will engage stage two. With a few more pops into the console and out comes a robot standing at about 5'8" with little remarkable markings it is highly streamlined and shiny metal.
OOC:
roll initiative for this engagement.

Jeffrey you're gonna go first, the robot is moving towards you but is still a good 30 or so feet away.
Jun 19, 2019 12:25 am
Jeffrey makes 3 copies of himself and of Darkhound telling his partner to start moving around. He and his three copies move off quickly in 4 different directions and hopes Darkhound will follow his lead.
OOC:
This is merely an illusion and any construct with the ability to sense heat will easily pick out the real person.

OOC:
For the sake of Darkhound I will say she acts din utmost fear, and has currently transported herself out of the situation.
Jun 23, 2019 9:46 pm
So, how is the new robot reacting to Jeffrey's multiple copies?
Jun 23, 2019 10:40 pm
OOC:
I am so sorry I thought I posted something, I cannot apologize enough.
The robot scans the 4 copies. But it seems to genuinely believe it has become outnumbered and splits into a defensive position.

"This is getting boring Mr. Engineer. Haven't you got anything that's foolproof. Everything I've seen so far has nothing but weaknesses."
Jun 25, 2019 8:48 pm
The engineer sighs and that presses a lot of buttons, turns some dials up, and states. Just don't blame me, this is our full measures system.

Out comes a different more digital looking animatronic that you're not sure how to fully place what you're looking at, it seems almost like a holographic projection that you can't easily focus on.

Jeffrey is completely baffled by what he is looking at or trying to look at. "Perhaps my idea and the company's idea of security have serious conflicts. This might be fun at Disneyland but I was thinking I would be testing some serious security technology. And it looks far from realistic. If you don't mind, you can keep the company's money and show me the exit."

im sorry rereading your character sheet, I can't tell the defenses are they meant to be the last number is the total or the two combined?
Jun 26, 2019 5:11 am
OOC:
I have no idea. This does not seem to be the kind of Mutants and Masterminds game I had in mind when I first applied. I think I'll have to step down.
Jul 11, 2019 1:35 am
Pedestrians point and yell in alarm as an orange motorcycle cruises down the street. What has drawn their attention is that there doesn't appear to be anyone driving it.
"Fear not citizens!" A voice called out from the motorcycle "It is I, T-9000".
Unsurprisingly to anyone with common sense, the fact that it was a talking motorcycle with no driver did nothing to calm the passers-by.
The motorcycle sighed, "It seems my study of human behavioral patterns is still incomplete," it muttered.
Pulling to a halt in front of the Taft Industries building, the motorcycle seemed to break apart. It's various pieces disconnecting from one another, only to rearrange themselves and reconnect, resolving into the form of an orange humanoid robot.
T-9000 approached the building looking for someone to talk to about the security tests.
Jul 11, 2019 6:35 pm
You are met in similar fashion as the other heroes, by an engineer, who welcomes you though with a look of concern, We had two testers earlier, and they have severely damaged, the first two stages of tests, but if you wish the third stage handled both heroes alone if you'd like a crack at it.
Jul 12, 2019 10:27 am
"Ah, a capital idea," T-9000 says, "let us proceed to the testing room"
Jul 12, 2019 5:09 pm
moving towards the testing room, your sensors can show the scorch marks of lasers, and there was definitely a scuffle the engineer goes back to his control panel and on a speaker says, Please prepare yourself for our final test.

T-9000 jumps backwards putting some distance between himself and the odd creature.

"Well it certainly packs a punch," he says to the the scientists monitoring him in the other room.

The strange flickering particles intrigue T-9000. Activating his microscopic sensors he analyzes one up close trying to get a better sense of what it is that he's facing.

Hey, this may be a dumb question but should I be rolling a damage resistance check? and if so what damage rank am I rolling against?

I think I follow you pass the check just fine. it is also your turn to make an attack.
Jul 17, 2019 2:32 am
OOC:
Right, sorry if this has become unclear. Instead of attacking I used my standard action to make an Expertise (Science) check and my move action to back away.
Jul 18, 2019 3:17 pm
OOC:
I apologize right,
With your science check, you could tell the thing is not actually one consistent A.I. but infect more of a swarm of them.
Jul 20, 2019 1:59 am
"Fascinating", T-9000 said as he prepared for his opponents next move, "I have to wonder how effective direct attacks will be against such a being."
Jul 25, 2019 8:47 pm
OOC:
hey if you're busy with real life, then no hard feeling, but it's been about a week so I just wanted to make sure you realized it was the bad guys turn.

The MDS starts to whir and then takes flight about 30 ft. in the air.
Aug 1, 2019 12:26 am
OOC:
yep, I rolled toughness check in the post before my attack, got a 20. If I'm understanding the rules correctly that means I'm at -1 on future toughness checks until I recover?

With the damage its taken the MDS glows a bright green color and then disappears, the engineer looks confused but still promises you your payment. The other dropped heroes are taken to the infirmary.
