[The Fool] Out-Of-Character & Pot Pourri

Jul 11, 2019 12:53 am
Just a spot for randomness. I'll begin setting up some brief personae dramatis for LV to give the setting character.
Jul 11, 2019 5:51 am
I love your use of Terro cards

I'd love to find a solid way to incorporate tarot into gameplay. This might be the game to try it in, even if it is just to set the scene, or something similar.

I'm very pleased to say I have the original Ascension Tarot deck. ๐Ÿ˜

Cool

I found these print-your-self Ascension Tarot deck. They are very dark
Jul 11, 2019 9:44 am
Yup exactly the same set! Glad they have it as print yourself. There's an Awakening set too but I never got hold of it and can't find it.

Hey, just a head's up. I'm taking a road trip on Saturday the 20th, so I may not be posting that day. I will try to check threads if I have the time, but I can't guarantee any availability.
Jul 19, 2019 4:58 pm
I think I'll throw up the initial post later today, the setup for the intro adventure, even before I finish reviewing the characters (also my plan for today). My goal is to get your feet wet, and then go from there.

I will be on a brief holiday Monday through Wednesday, and while I'll have access, I may not be very diligent about GP. After Wednesday, we can go as hard as you want.

Mordecai has a golem? Nice!
Jul 25, 2019 3:07 am
You lot went hard while I was in the internet voodoo zone of interior hillbilly BC. I'm back in the land of bars and will fill in some gaps tomorrow.

Yeah, Iโ€™m still getting it approved, but hopefully I can make it work. The rules for familiars in M20 are a little more flexible than previous versions.

Ooh, it's a Familiar? I'm interested to see what happens.

Can I just say, I know we're barely into this, but as my first mage game I am highly excited about all of this so far. Thank you.

GM looks at notes, see nothing but role-playing tax forms.

Uhh, thanks.
Aug 12, 2019 8:39 pm
I another game King_Moloch has excused himself for a few days, so I think it would be okay if we don't wait for the rabbi
Aug 12, 2019 9:30 pm
But what to do with the golem... Okay, I'm on it.

Transmuting gunpowder to sand is Vulgar. However, there are no witnesses (inside the bullets where) to observe the change. As such, it is Vulgar without Witnesses, so the DC is highest sphere+4. One success? Does that mean one bullet? The bullet from one gun? More? Let's find out together!

Wiki receives 1 Paradox point.
OOC:

I'll just do the math, since its the first time it really matters ;)
Vulgar Without Witnesses: Difficulty = highest Sphere + 4
DC = 6
Has one success (with an 8)
One success Marginal (finding a helpful TV Tropes entry)

The goal was to change all the bullets in a radius, with a marginal success, I would say that it's one or two of the closest gunmen's bullets that have been disabled. The magic had an effect, but not the desired effect.

Right. One success. Your stated goal of transmuting all of their bullets (of which there could easily be several hundred) doesn't mean that one success achieves your goal in entirety. After all you could have started all of the bullets in Las Vegas, or the building.

What wasn't clear to me was how much of your goal one success gets you. Was it enough to transmute all of the gunpowder in the universe to sand, or just one bullet? My cagey response was that you don't know how successful it was, which is Storyteller speak for "Let's move on, I'll look it up and make a determination later."

Now looking it up, there are no guidelines. Does the matter have to be connected? What mass is affected? Did you have to see, or touch, the material? This type of transmutation clearly falls within the scope of what you want to do, but how many, and which bullets are affected appears to be left to discretion.

Ruling: The police, should they fire, will have a misfire chance, which will represent a partial success.

Is that fair?
Aug 17, 2019 5:25 pm
Totally. I'll get better at specifying the desired effect

Just to confirm, when you say "no sleeper witnesses" you meant "10 sleeper witnesses" right?

Oops, my bad. I forgot about the finance people in the room with me. In that case, may I instead put my hands up and shout for Schlomo in Hebrew? Assuming he isnโ€™t too far from my position.

Also, the thread is locked.

Right, the finance people and the cops.

Unlocked. Feel free to entirely edit your last post.

@Glenda: If you "pull" the mixture from your jacket, then it would be Coincidental. This is really close to the prior attempt to change gunpowder to sand. The difference is that it isn't possible to get sand into the bullets, but it is possible that you came prepared. This is a small difference and I recognize that this may be entirely subjective - hell, I may be wrong. For comparison, if the gunpowder in the bullets were transformed into 'stale' gunpowder, or contaminated gunpowder, something that could have occurred at the bullet factory, a bad batch, then it would have been Coincidental.
I am taking notes ;)

Oh noes, it is the NPC turn. Sorry about that
Sep 5, 2019 8:57 pm
I feel like I've totally lost control of you monkeys, haha.

SRSLY, though, I'm liking where this game is going. I want to move us a little bit toward exploring Mage Life shortly.

Derail derail derail the plot!
Sep 10, 2019 3:22 am
I just took the weekend, off and holy ___ so much happened.
Sep 23, 2019 10:06 am
I don't think we should wait for the rabbi / King_Moloch. I believe that he is in a low-game-activity period. I am in a Blue Planet game where he is GM and there has been no response for several weeks, and a week ago I send him a PM that he has not read yet.
Sep 23, 2019 1:48 pm
That's fine with me, he's clearly in his own scene.

Hahaha, I based it off an appetizer at an English pub I used to go to in college. https://www.crownandanchorlv.com/menus.

I was going to have Glenda order a scotch egg and then remembered that she's a vegetarian :D

I was in Scotland where I tried a strongbow 'n black. It was a nice cider, but when I rose up I realized that I was very drunk. Wiki has been clever so fare, its time she is less so... at least for a while

Thanks for reminding me. My plan for these games is to simply award 5 xp periodically - generally once a month unless the game is very slow.

So, everybody take 5xp! (and thank runekyndig for reminding me.)
I'll remind you any time, and twice on Sundays :D
Nov 18, 2019 9:06 am
Just checking to see if it's only two players left yada yada. If so, I don't know if we should play on.
Nov 18, 2019 9:50 am
I would hate to see this game die, but yes, where is JackJack?
Nov 18, 2019 2:25 pm
He PMd me a while ago that he didn't know what to do, or what was going on. I'm not sure if he is lurking and waiting for a prompt, or had given up.
Nov 18, 2019 3:19 pm
Still here! I was kind of waiting for a prompt/trying to figure out my next move myself. I wasn't sure Glenda would be of any help during the lake rescue segment.
Nov 18, 2019 6:05 pm
if in doubt, you could discribe how Glenda behaves riding a boat. Is she seasick, does she love it? It don't have be mission related
Nov 19, 2019 3:04 pm
That's a good idea. Guess I was just being very mission-focused. Fortunately something happened :D
Dec 2, 2019 4:14 pm
BedzoneII has expressed an interest in withdrawing from this game. With JackJack and King_Moloch having ghosted, that really just leaves Glenda and Wiki holding the fort.

I'm not sure how interested I am at this point either. World of Darkness games are my go to for IRL gaming, but my GMing style may not create enough urgency to propel a plot for PBP.
Dec 2, 2019 8:04 pm
I love to play Wiki, she is a really interesting and fun Mage.... but I kind of saw this coming. I'll most likely play her again in the next mage game.

It's hard to balance a sense of urgency in a PBP game. Its easier to judge the mood at the table, then in a forum. I recently quit a star wars game where there was too much urgency. 3 IRL month with stressed characters, in the end, I had to walk away.

Before we end, would you recap the plot for us?
Dec 3, 2019 12:12 am
Yeah I think there are too few of us left to properly carry the momentum of the plot. Don't think it's about GM style though, I like the open-endedness of what you do Qralloq, but in return we need a minimum number of players to be jumping in and interacting to drive things forward. Otherwise it might end up being you having to run 'single-player' plots.

WoD is great, maybe we can revisit it in some form in the future. I know I'm still seeing you guys around :D
Dec 3, 2019 4:00 am
As a sand box game, I really just follow the characters interests for scene development, but the meta plot was as follows:

An Order of Hermes mage was secretly a Nephandi, but struggling with his own dissolution. Not yet fully committed to his fall from grace, he tried to do good but things would go awry.

Meanwhile, the Syndicate tried a bold new tactic, to lure potential reality deviants, identified through big data analysis (although that was imperfect, and often gave them only rough addresses). Then, they would be tested through sudden and shocking stress (I.e., police brutality). The true deviants would this be separated from the citizens.

So next the torn cloth would lead you to the Black Pyramid chantry, where you might figure out who your paradox causing rescuer was. I was going to use this as a wedge to bring you into chantry politics, and see what drew your attention, although I hadn't yet planned what sorts of Tradition-shenanigans you would uncover.

Once I had introduced you to that larger community, I was hoping to spring a larger conflict - I have no idea what that would be, but I was slowly leaning to Orphan-terrorists.
Dec 3, 2019 6:37 am
Honestly I prefer sandbox games to dungeon crawls, so I did appreciate the set up. Esther was just going to schmooze her way till she got what she wanted. Anyway, thanks!
Dec 3, 2019 3:32 pm
Thanks, Qralloq! Sorry that the game ended up like this. I just want tell you that I was having fun with it. From my very limited experience, it seems like ghosting is something that happens on the regular. I just want tell you that I was having fun with it. I enjoyed playing with y'all!
