The group raises up the West Hill, where the church is. The hill is a patchwork of green made, while the sky above is dense with fog and low clouds, giving a somewhat claustrophobic feel. The hill side facing the town is covered with trees, weeds and shrubs. There are every hue from summer grass to deep forest pools. The foothill borders with a fenced farm. Some houses, including the church are located on the hill top. To access the area, they must go through one of the two staircases on either side of the hill, for a fifteen minutes’ walk.
Climbing along the path, the fog begins to thin out, until it disappears completely. The sun's rays reach every place and emphasize the lively presence of plants, trees and houses, projecting shadows on the ground.

The church of Greyton stands in an isolated place at the top of the hill. It is a typical Georgian building. With its tall steeples, classical facades, gleaming white exteriors, and many tall the famed Palladian windows. Above the entrance, rises the bell tower that ends with a pointed roof. At its base, each side of the tower has a clock.

The group finds a priest walking in front of the church, coming back from his morning walk.
Brian Colby is a middle-aged man, with dark hair and thin lips. Glasses with big lenses cover the small brown eyes. He wears a clerical black waistcoats, made of worsted wool. He holds an old bible in his hand, keeping the page mark with his finger. His face suggest a constant bothered mood, as if sculpted in marble. He interrupts his walk as he sees the investigators. His inquiring face seems to have understood they are not local.

"Excuse me, Father Colby?" Michael says, putting on a little extra Irish accent to let Colby assume what he will about Michael's faith, "I'm inspector O'Shaughnessy, this is retired Portland Chief of Police Bing* and Mr Edmond, if you have a moment we'd like to ask you a few questions." Without really waiting, Michael continues: "We are conducting a police investigation, and one of the people who might have information to aid us in the case is Jason Carson, we understand that he lived with you for a time growing up? Have you seen him recently or do you know his whereabouts?"
OOC:
* Michael would introduce Bing by his last name but I don't know it. MIchael is going to watch Colby's reaction carefully

Colby´s eyelook is disheartened, as if his mind that were recalling something painful, from which he would like to stay far, without however being able to completely dissociate from it.
He responds with harsh and accusatory words.

"He left and went to Portland years ago, and he did the best thing he could do. There´s nothing good in the soul of the people of this town. I don´t know where Jason is now. I thought him still in Portland. What Jason has to do with this this investigation?"

"what do you mean, there is nothing good in the soul in the people of this town, is there something bothering you that you would like to tell us about? We might be able to help, we are with the Portland police, not Greyton."

I look at father Colby with some compassion. Do you know where Jason stayed when he was here? I know he lived here for a little bit. Does he have a room he stayed in?"
Aug 7, 2019 6:41 pm
The priest shakes his head with a perplexed face.

"No... he has no room here anymore. He left Greyton years ago. Jason has been living the life of a drifter for a while and this because of the torments of his unhappy childhood, he never knew who his father was and his mother died when he was born. I tried to do what I could to raise him, but it was not easy. The absence of true parents became a void that tormented his life. This is too sad a story, you don´t want to hear more about it."

Jason always said he wanted one day to learn more about his past. Coney Insland... within twenty miles from the shore of Greyton. His mother came from there. Maybe he definitely moved there now."

Before answearing Michael, the priest´s face becomes tense, as if to vent an inner anger accumulated and repressed with time. He leads the group inside the church and close the heavy double wooden door. The inside is a quiet air tinctured with the scent of incense. Candles solidly smell of musty prayer books. The priest seats on a bench and resumes talking.

"Greyton became home to the devil."
He looks up at the roof
" Forgive me Father for saying such things in thy holy place."
Then he turns back at the characters.
"Greed! Greed and depravation fills the hearts of this town. Believe me.
There´s a rich family in Coney Island, the Anderson. They rule here.
They financed the expansion of fishing. They loan money to the fishermen. The poor guys were deceived because of the interests. Many lost their vessel and those who not, now cannot sell fish their own. Those who failed to repay lost their boat. "

The red haired woman…. Darcy… that woman is the devil! She was a good girl once. Everything changed when she went to Corney Island to work for the Andersons. She stood in their house as a maid. When she came back, greed and money corrupted her soul first and the whole town then. Many people became greedy because of her. Corruption began to spread everywhere in Greyton.

As if all that's not enough, they began to smuggle alcohol. The alcohol comes by sea, through the Bay of Fundy, maybe from Canada. Local police is paid by the Anderson for not enforcing the law. They are corrupted. The Anderson sell alcohol here. This helps to keep them down. The Anderson supply strong alcohol, at a very low price. The fishermen had been dry for decades. This was a disaster, and favored the downfall of many of them.

"Thank you, father, I too have seen the effects that drink can have on a man in my line of work. We are looking for a small boy, around 6 or 7 years old (*describes Timothy*), his connection to Greyton is that his mother knew Jason years ago, before he was born, and he seemed to be . . . familiar with the lighthouse here, he has many hand-drawn pictures of it in his room. Have you seen or heard anything about a boy who is not from around here?"
OOC:
following his response I will ask him a second question - including to save you time
"The Andersons? Would they have been involved in the financing of this boat?" (*shows him clipping of the wreck*)

"No .. I didn't see any children. What makes you think that this child is here? And what Jason has to do with that?"

The man looks at the newspaper page.
"Yes ... it is one of their boats ... certainly ... any boat that goes out to fish belongs to the Andersons..."
Aug 12, 2019 11:31 pm
I look a little surprised and say you didn't think in a way that Jason is the father? That's why we were asking if you see any children around here with him.

Aug 13, 2019 8:32 pm
The priest shakes his head, as a gesture of strong negation.

"No ... no way .. Jason is nobody's father. He cannot be anyone's father, because he cannot have children. That´s way he and Alyssa have broken their engagement. I´m sorry to hear that something happened to Alyssa's son. But the father is not Jason."

"Thank you father,, but that doesn't alleviate all our fears. Timothy had . . I mean has some type of fascination with the lighthouse here but as far as we know he never saw it in person. But somehow he knows it well enough to draw recognisable pictures of it. We also know that he was picked up in Portland near his school by someone in a car, completely covered in fisherman's-type clothing including a flannel-lined oilskin hat. These two clues and Jason being from here are what led us here. Is there anything else that you can tell us that might make sense of Timothy's connection to Greyton?"
OOC:
While continuing the investigation here, if Bing and/or I have sufficient connections, I would like to phone or send a telegram from Greyton to the Portland Police, see if they can determine if Jason still lives in Portland, If he does it might be worth a trip back to talk to him. I would say after we at least explore the cave, and if we reach a dead end, then consider going back, but send the message soon so they have time to check into it and get back to us.

"Yes. As I told you, this city is damned. Strange things happened to two mothers of Greyton. Five years ago, a woman called Emma Weeks was found on Kenneth beach in a state of confusion. She claims she had been raped. The doctor visited her and concluded that no raping occurred. However, nine months later she gave birth to an abortion. She still clam this abortion was the result of that rape. One year ago, a child disappeared while playing on Kenneth beach. It was early in the morning. The weather changed quickly, and a storm occurred. His mother, Jane Norris was there, and saw a big wave suddenly submerging his son and taking him away. Everybody thinks the child have drowned, but his body was never found. Based on what you say, Alyssa would be one more mother that lost her son."

The priest can show the investigators how to get to the houses of the two women, if they want to know.
OOC:
You can phone the police as you pass by the Inn. Jason has not living in Portland the last seven years. After the trip he had in Greyton with Alyssa, he left his job at the college. Since then, nobody knows where he has been.
Aug 16, 2019 5:45 pm
Thank you for your help and time. That would be great to show us how to get to the houses.

OOC:
As long as everyone else wants to go :)

Aug 16, 2019 6:27 pm
"Yes, as Mr Edmond said, thanks you for your assistance. Talking to these women may be of help."
OOC:
I think we should keep an eye on the tides so as to not miss the next opportunity to explore the cave at or near low tide
Aug 16, 2019 7:58 pm
OOC:
If so, let’s acquire some rope and perhaps some chalk or similar to mark the path we take.
Aug 18, 2019 1:35 pm
OOC:
I am up for going in the caves let's get some rope I agree with kelly. Also let's make sure we have some warm clothes.

OOC:
Ok, low tide is getting closer. I'm preparing the scene of the caves.
