Jacque Durant ´s house and office looks like many other middle-class homes constructed in North American urban centers in the early twentieth century. It is a two-storey, brick house with a hipped roof and dormer window, pronounced chimney, generous setback from the street, contrasting materials, and careful detailing. The upper floor houses the doctor´s family. The building stands out from the other houses for the warm tone of the red brick, the rough texture of the stucco trim and the manicured lawn. Jacque Durant´s working place is on the ground floor. It is a two-room office, comprehending a waiting room and examination room. The waiting room has a few chairs and a spittoon for the tobacco chewing.

Durant welcomes the investigators in his office. The room consists of an examination table and the doctor’s desk, which is cluttered with books, papers, and bottles. It also displays the doctor´s library, microscope, diplomas, pictures of eminent professional friends and teachers, and other things that are associated with his medical studies and career. There´s a whole skeleton in plain view, probably because it exhibits Durant´s knowledge and interest in anatomy.

Jaque Durant is a Canadian sturdy mid-age physician. His hair are silver and his face more wrinkled than one would expect at his age. He has the bright eyes of a careful observer, who seeks to find small details to satisfy his fussiness. He speaks with a strong French accent, he does not care to mask, as if it were an identity trait. He uses technical and analytical words even for conversations supposed to be informal.

"Dr. Durant, I am Inspector O'Shaughnessy and this is Mr. Edmond, if you could give us a moment of your time, we are making inquiries regarding the disappearance of a small boy, from Portland. We have several facts in the case which connect him to Greyton. Have you by chance recently seen a small boy around 6 or 7 that is not a known resident of the town?"
OOC:
I assumed Bing is holding back to investigate on his own as we discussed in previous thread, since we suspect the doctor knows that something is going on, if not assume I introduced him too. I will try to watch the doctor carefully for signs that he is lying or concealing something and pay attention to what he asks us in return.

The man opens his eyes with a bit of surprise.

"No ... I don't see how a missing child in Portland would end up here... even considering that a kidnapper took him up here,
I don´t see how the boy could be seen scampering around the city streets.

"I'm sure as a doctor you get to speak with and observe a wide variety of people in town, is there anything unusual that you have noticed that might be something we should look into, people behaving strangely, strangers in town, apart from us, I mean - that sort of thing? The boy's father is terribly worried about him."

The doctor thinks for a few seconds, then answers. His voice is neutral, he does not seem convinced about what he says.

"No ... this is just a small town. People are humble people, they get by the best they can by fishing. Nothing happens here. The only weird person is the priest."

He pauses, then he raises his voice. He now speaks with disgust.

"Brian Colby believes himself ethically superior, with his moralistic and spiritual speeches. He is nothing but a bigot, who doesn´t want to accept the progress of science. His religion is useless. Maybe, his church should be destroyed, once for all."

"What do you mean, the progress of science? You mean like those fellas that saved that boy from dying a few years ago by injecting him with something from a cow, and they won a big scientific prize for it?"
Oct 31, 2019 9:46 pm
The doctor shakes his head and responds with a harsh tone.
"No, of course. I'm not saying that science doesn't make its mistakes. I just want to say that religion is certainly not the way to salvation. Father Colby is fanatic moralist and bigot. He has repeatedly tried to bribe the soul of poor people trying to convince them of being possessed by the devil. If there´s something weird and scary in this town, that is Colby´s thoughts and speeches."

"Doctor, are any of the townspeople exhibiting unusual behavior that someone like Colby would attribute to demonic possession, or is he just speaking generally?"
OOC:
I have kind of been waiting for the other players to post, especially to see if Bing is doing anything on his own or if he is with us after all.

I see so it seems like father Colby may be doing some experiments? Could be? Especially saying the town's people are possed?
Nov 21, 2019 8:21 pm
Durant shakes his head
"No, no. This is a town of good people. If there´s someone who is possessed, this is that bigoted priest. Faith made him mad, and transformed him into the devil he wants to fight."

"You say you come from Portland to investigate a disappearance. Colby has been out of town in the past few days and I've heard that he has acquaintances in Portland. He is the man you should keep an eye on, believe me."

OOC:
Should we talk to the other acquaintances
