Ok I am on the hunt for a battle map. Once I find it and populate it with some baddies, I will upload the link. It's the type of map where you move your token around, save the new position by hitting ENTER on your keyboard and then sharing the link at the bottom of your post. I like this mapping setup because it's large enough to see at first glance and easy to work with.

Just like Monica

OMG you guys. Lol. Ok so once you upload your character I will make an itty bitty token for ya of it's face and put it on the map. I think I know how to do that. I HOPE I know how to do that.

Thank you!

Wait! This is the trio. Goatboy, Monica and Danielle

Ok, I am approving your character not because it's correct but so the others can see it. :D. I am so glad I am doing this because it just hit me, that I don't know how to check a character sheet!! I know how to make one from scratch but presumably you have to go backwards to check someone else's, so how does one check the sheet? Do you start with attributes at 10, then look at the ancestry, class, background etc bonuses to make sure the numbers all jive?

I can see off the bat though that you need an alignment and a deity Mel. That will give you some stuff like spells, a skill proficiency and a trained weapon. Am I right fellas? The alignment you choose will affect the pool of deities you can pick from.

Does one have to pick a faction if this isn't a Pathfinder Society game?

*cries in I have no idea what I'm doing*

When checking a character sheet, I usually do exactly that. I check the choices they have made and make sure it all lines up properly to what's possible

No one has to pick a faction if they don't want to.

You're doing fine because I am in the same boat. We will be fine. :-) Little bit at a time. We will get it and have fun doing it. When I get a chance I will work through your sheet. Slow and steady wins the race and all that jazz.

But in the meantime, please pick an alignment, pick a suitably aligned deity and add the good stuff that gives your character. The deities available will be narrowed down by the alignment you choose.

I think I am correct in assuming that NPC's get their dexterity bonus plus any other bonuses for an initiative roll. Looking at the NPC's I don't see any other bonuses. I've never been at the NPC end before! :D

Initiative is actually different in this and not based off of Dex!
Quote:
When the GM calls for it, you’ll roll initiative to determine your place in the initiative order, which is the sequence in which the encounter’s participants will take their turns. Rolling initiative marks the start of an encounter. More often than not, you’ll roll initiative when you enter a battle.

Typically, you’ll roll a Perception check to determine your initiative—the more aware you are of your surroundings, the more quickly you can respond. Sometimes, though, the GM might call on you to roll some other type of check. For instance, if you were Avoiding Notice during exploration (page 479), you’d roll a Stealth check. A social encounter could call for a Deception or Diplomacy check.

The GM rolls initiative for anyone other than the player characters in the encounter. If these include a number of identical creatures, the GM could roll once for the group as a whole and have them take their turns within the group in any order. However, this can make battles less predictable and more dangerous, so the GM might want to roll initiative for some or all creatures individually unless it’s too much of a burden.

Unlike a typical check, where the result is compared to a DC, the results of initiative rolls are ranked. This ranking sets the order in which the encounter’s participants act—the initiative order. The character with the highest result goes first. The second highest follows, and so on until whoever had the lowest result takes their turn last.

If your result is tied with a foe’s result, the adversary goes first. If your result is tied with another PC’s, you can decide between yourselves who goes first when you reach that place in the initiative order. After that, your places in the initiative order usually don’t change during the encounter.

If perception check is typical for initiative, what is considered atypical?
I'll reroll the NPC initiatives just for grins per below.

Perception check = d20 roll + Wisdom modifier + proficiency bonus + other bonuses + penalties.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: Gonna go out on a limb here and predict the goblin goes "dead" last.

Rolls

Kobold (Wis+1 - (1d20+1)

(18) + 1 = 19

Skeleton (Wis+0) - (1d20)

(13) = 13

Goblin (Wis-1) - (1d20-1)

(1) - 1 = 0

I like that idea, though. Having Initiative not be dex based

Seems to make more logical sense. The more logical it is, the easier it is to remember.
