Alright, I've settled on the Artificer. They have the most variable option I can use to support the party without feeling left out. I'll decide what kind of artificer once we get there.

Next up is deciding on race:
Variant Human is sort of the boring option race wise, but still hard to say no to.
Rock Gnomes are thematic
Warforged are thematic and stated, but I'm not sure they fit in this particular setting.
Fire Gensai are also a good fit, but I am not sure they fit in the setting.

I'm happy running support if you wanna be something for active, that;s what I've currently spec'd myself to.

Also on Genasi - They were actually released with Princes of the Apocalypse, so would very much fit.

On the second, good point, that might be a deciding factor.

On the first. Nah, I'm good on support, though odds are once we get up a few levels I could end up on the front lines being comparable to anyone else up there. With two good stats going into Int and Con, I could likely out armor, and maybe out-damage, the warriors.

Also, GM, it feels silly to ask, but what is your opinion on firearms in this adventure?
Jun 5, 2020 3:26 am
I fully intend to pew-pew Eldritch Blast from the back. :)

I am hiding at the back and may occasionally cast healing word. :p With more spells hopefully come more options.

I will also be yelling insults admittedly.

No firearms in this one I’m afraid

I have a character now.

Meet Vanri Lightspark, the Fire Genasi Artificer. Despite her lack of strength, Vanri is basically a weapon nerd. She wished to construct the ultimate magic weapon with her master. When their combined work produced what they hoped would be the base of their work, Vanari's master was murdered and the sword stolen.

Character Sheet?
OOC:
For the first two levels, Vanari will be mostly hanging out towards the middle, using her short ranged cantrips as her primary damage. Once she hits level 3, she will probably go Battlesmith (though Artillierist is still possible) and start mixing it up in melee. (Hopefully using the missing sword, lol.)

Okay if I got the current lay of characters correct I get this :

LightOfMidnight ..... Nadya Hordseer ....... Human Bard > To Be > School Ominous Dream
ToDream ............... Vanri Lightspark ...... Fire Genasi Artificer > To Be > ??
Mr.Armitage .......... PC - Welsh .............. Satyr Warlock (Archfey) Entertainer
-------< player lost
OctopusGLZ .......... Aukan .................... Goliath Barbarian

------------------------------------------

Please let me know if any of that is in correct --- also is the group still 1st level

Rolls : 12, 14, 9, 13, 9, 10 --- Average Stat : 11

Well it seems the psuedo-random generator does not like this game -- although cudos to the GM your version of rolling stats is close to mine -- I just go a we bit further -- 3d6+6 (drop lowest) if you do not average 13 above you can reroll the whole kit and caboodle but you cannot go back only forward

Roll 1 - (2d6)

( 4, 2 ) = 6

Roll 2 - (2d6)

( 6, 2 ) = 8

Roll 3 - (2d6)

( 1, 1 ) = 2

Roll 4 - (2d6)

( 3, 4 ) = 7

Roll 5 - (2d6)

( 2, 1 ) = 3

Roll 6 - (2d6)

( 1, 3 ) = 4

I'd just roll again if I were you. Haha. Low stats can be fun, but I mean...yikes.
Jul 14, 2020 4:28 pm
?? I did not think that was an option I mean from what I understood LightOfMidnight got (11, 11, 12, 11, 13, 10) which also averages out to an 11 not sure which of is worse off (12, 14, 9, 13, 9, 10) -- I at least got a 14 and a 13 but yeah 2 9s are not nice either of course ToDream got a really nice set of stats (17, 17, 13, 10, 9 , 8) while still getting a 9 and 8

Yeah its nice to get to play a heroic character rather than an near average joe/jane which is why I do the 3d6(drop lowest) + 6 folks tend to average 13s this way with an occasional 8 --- and from a GM point of view does it hurt the game -- no -- but it does tend to make the game more fun for the players --- the reason I go with if you do not average a 13 or better is because you tend not to get someone above average and the Point Buy system averages a 12 (15, 13, 13, 12, 10, 10) assuming no stat below 10 which again is pretty poor but most folks with Point Buy do not get a stat below 10 unless they are really trying to excel at something

You are still level 1 yeah. I think you might have a point with the way you roll stats, the whole reason I chose the 2d6+6 was to minimise the really shitty rolls, but I’ve still had a few characters roll abysmal in my games. For this particular game I reckon we just go with the way the others have rolled to keep it fair between the players. But I think I’ll go with your method for future games for sure

IMO, low stats can be alot of fun too. You've just gotta roll with it and embrace the chaos. :D
Jul 14, 2020 5:44 pm
Oh I have played the full gambit of stats and yes sometimes -- if you have a creative GM -- low stats can be a lot of fun -- we had a paladin-like character who started with an 8 Charisma (because it was a roll them in place game and they really wanted to play this class) of course I had a skill in that game called Faith that clerical types used which reflected ones belief in their patron -- so what I allowed them to do was take a Feat (that did not exist) that allowed them to substitute their Faith in place of their Charisma (a fairly standard feat-like ability) -- basically they did not believe in themselves all that much but they were nearly fanatical about their Patron and believed in them greatly that they would help/guide them through.

In an old school game I played in some fighter rolled a 1 for hit points and did not have Con bonus -- of the group he was the only one that survived along with someone's war pig -- the group set out and only the 1 hit point fighter and the war pig returned.

But yeah it is what is -- I am not sweating it -- you just brought up something that I wanted to make sure was or was not the case -- since it is not I am cool with it

I did a cursory review on Princes of the Apocalypse (checking out what races might be more in tune with it) and it appears that not only do Gensai seem to be at home here but Dwarves are as well (or at least once were) so I figured I would go with a surly and stubborn (Charisma 9 / Intelligence 9) Dwarf Cleric who would like to reclaim dwarven birthrights or some such with this guy -- as that would cover some of the front-line fighter that seems to be missing and give a hook into dwarf stuff in the area maybe

Awesome. This group needs a straight man for our shenanigans. I look forward to making you eyeroll constantly. =D

"AH! AH! It's stuck! It won't roll back... AH! AH!"

And from that day forward, the dwarf had a lazy eye.

Will try to get the character submitted this evening -- I mean all I have to do use create a 1st level character that has already been mapped out in my mind.
