Chapter 1 - Trouble In Red Larch

Jun 6, 2020 10:22 am
For the past couple of decades, Red Larch has been an important stop on the Long Road that goes from Waterdeep to Mirabar. Named for a distinctive stand of red larch trees that were cut down when the hamlet was founded, Red Larch became a settlement in the first place thanks to a drinkable spring that fed a sizable pond ideal for watering horses, oxen, and pack mules.

An east-west trail meets the Long Road at the pond, running west to the logging community of Kheldell and east to Bargewright Inn and eventually Secomber. Another trail leads to quarries in the Sumber Hills and to ruins of stone keeps long ago left to monsters and outlaws.

In recent years, new quarries have been opened on the northwestern edge of town. So far these have yielded up great slabs of marble much prized in Waterdeep for facing large new buildings and repairing older edifices. Red Larch is also a center for stonecutters quarrying slate on the fringes of the Sumber Hills.

It is this village that you are making your way towards just past noon, and as you spot the first houses in the distance it is a welcome sight. The torrential rain has been hammering down on you since early morning, not very seasonable for a spring day, and you thank the higher powers that you might finally find a place to dry off and maybe find a meal or at the very least a drink.

As you enter the village from the west, you see several buildings in the vincinity. Across from you in the intersection of the Long Road and the Cairn Road is a square two-story building with a signboard painted with an image of a well dressed man and woman, judging from that and the mannequins you can see through the barred windows, this appears to be a clothing shop. On the other side directly in front of you is a cluttered, untidy shed surrounded by dozens of wagons shrouded in worn canvas tarpaulins. A crudely hand-lettered sign over the wide main door proclaims this to be "Waelvurs Wagonworks."

To your right is a long, narrow, and nondescript one-story building with name "Drouth Fine Poultry" painted above the double-entry doors, and to your left stands what looks like a grand stone mansion. Walking by the front door, which in spite of the heavy rain remains open, you can see what appears to be a plain chapel with a stone altar.

Right next to it however is the building that you where after in the first place. It is a three-story stone structure, crowned by a steep slate roof that bristles with many chimneys. A signboard juts out over the door, hanging from chains. Its a ten-foot-long carved wooden scimitar emblazoned with the name "The Swinging Sword" in red paint on both sides. There's little doubt in your mind that this is an inn.

As you step inside, the inn looks warm and inviting and not just because everything with a roof at this point would look that way. For a village this size it would undoubtedly qualify as luxurious even if it in a city such as Waterdeep would qualify as simple. The front door leads into a foyer with a desk on your right. There are stairs leading up to what you could presume are the lodgings, and at the end of the foyer there's an open door leading into what looks like a dining area. At the desk is a sturdy, pale human woman in her 40s.
OOC:
Please make your introductions as you enter the inn
Jun 7, 2020 12:18 am
Before anyone sees him enter the building, they hear the CLOP CLOP CLOP of hooves outside. With a flourish, a man with curly black hair and a goatee enters. It if weren’t for his small ram-like horns curling off of his head and his pointy elf-like ears, he’d almost look human, standing 5’6" tall, with a slightly rounder physique. Once you reach his waist however, in the place of any sort of humanoid legs is a set of large goat haunches squeezed into a pair of tan pants. In the place of feet are black fur and hooves. Out the rear of the pants, a short goat tail poke out of a hole that has been torn. Anyone who has heard of a satyr would recognize him as one.

The satyr looks around the room with awe for a moment, then approaches the desk. He leans in and stares into her eyes, smiling in a youthful, genuine, almost way. "You know, I’ve been eyeing your establishment for a few days. Very nice. I bet you get a lot of adventurers around here." He leans casually on the desk, giving off a youthful enthusiasm. "Listen, I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m from out of town. I need a place to get my heroism enterprise off the ground. Any chance you have a room available? Sleeping in the woods around here is...colder than I’m used to."

Even for a village surrounded by strange events and monster sightings, a satyr is a strange sight indeed. The woman looks at you with her mouth slightly agape and remains silent for a beat after you finish speaking. Finally she retains her composure and smiles warmly at you, "I heard from some of the other villagers that someone like you had been playing music on the street, but seeing you in person is still a sight to behold". She looks at you with great interest, "Oh sorry, where are my manners. My name is Kaylessa, I run this here inn. We do have rooms, both private rooms and shared dormitories if you want to save a bit of coin. Normally we do have our share of adventurers, but not many these days I’m afraid…even if we could use some…". She sighs, a troubled look on her face, but then rearranges her face into a slightly forced smile and changes the subject, "Do you mind if I ask you where you are from? I’ve never even heard of someone like you before."
Jun 7, 2020 10:45 pm
The satyr stood up straight, straightening himself up. "The name's Welsh. I'm from...the Feywild? I think that's what you call it here." He looks at her, and smiles. "I think the shared dorms will provide me with an opportunity to meet some fellow adventurers, so perhaps I'll go with that."

He stopped for a moment, having realized that she what she had said. "Wait...did you said you're in need of adventurers?" He leaned in, raising an eyebrow and lowering his voice to a whisper. "Tell me. What's the word on the street? Could it be that destiny has dropped me into the very town that holds my...destiny?"
Jun 8, 2020 3:40 am
This was a bad idea. The dreams probably didn't mean anything. The rest of her family didn't believe so. yet she found her here, following what clues she had to this place. It wasn't a big city. It didn't have a plethora of targets for her to con, yet she was here. For some reason she cared. And she didn't understand it herself.

As she entered the in she tried to figure out what she was thinking, what she was hoping to do. Before she heard the word destiny. Her eyes flick to the one speaking. Someone like something she hadn't seen before. Horns, oat legs, he was like out of a storybook. Looking for his destiny. That made him a target. In the con she hadn't devised yet. She put on a smile, acting like she hadn't heard anything. She could hopefully at least get something out of him. Fund her travel to this village that she didn't know why she was bothering with.

'Oh praise Bahamut. The rest didn't believe but I did. Come to the Swinging Sword, and you find one with horns. One who needs your guidance I believe and I have found you. The dark skinned woman moves towards the satyr, acting starstruck. 'Please sir, you must listen to what I have to say.
OOC:
Throwing a deception, but very happy for Welsh to automatically suspect her, or have advantage as playing to her character, but also don't want to screw other party members. Likely if he believes the con she'll just be trying to get him to help her. She;s trying to be god but doesn't know how.

Welsh, Kaylessa nods as you request a spot in the dormitories and perks up as you mention the need for adventurers. "Your destiny? Wait does that mean that you are an adventurer". She eyes you up and down and looks a bit sceptical, "...you don't look like the usual adventurers we get in here...but never you mind, that doesn't matter! Things have gotten strange all over the Dessarin Valley, I've heard tales about fogs that persist in the Sumber Hills even in bright sunlight, and sudden gusts of hot wind sweeping west out of the hills where breezes have always been cold. There have been more violent sights too, such as sudden bolts of lightning stabbing up from the hills into a clear sky...". She peeks outside at the rain streaming aggressively down on the village. "Here in Red Larch, I know that Constable Harbuk has looked into rumours about bandits nearby, Minny Mhandyver's granddaughter supposedly saw a ghost, and I've heard rumours that the workers down in the quarry refuse to work during the night because of something they saw.". She sighs and shakes her head, "It might all sound trivial to you, but these things didn't use to happen in this here village....

As Nadya enters and starts gushing over Welsh, Kaylessa's eyes narrow a bit but she doesn't say anything. As Welsh offers to buy Nadya a drink, Kaylessa points in the direction of the dining room. "You can get a drink right through here. We unfortunately can't provide food at the moment, had a small kitchen fire and have been cooking outside but the weather doesn't really permit it right now. They serve food at "The Helm" on the other side of the road if you need it."

While it is a corny statement, the bar gets slightly brighter as a woman in red enters the inn. Then people realize that with the end of her long hair seemingly burning, the bar really has gotten brighter. She looks around the inn and walks over to the counter.

"Excuse me, but who should I speak to about getting a room for the night?"
Jun 8, 2020 5:27 pm
A drink was a good start. She still wasn't sure what she was doing here. She had no idea how to be a hero or fight medusa. Still this strange man wanted a destiny, and she was good at manipulating. Maybe he could do her job for her.

'A drink would be lovely.' She smiles at the Satyr, and then at the woman manning the desk. It seems her charm hadn't quite worked on her, but that was fine for now.

She follows into the other room. 'My name is Nadya Hordseer. I would say you may have heard of my family but it seems you are not from around here. truthfully neither am I. But I have been having dreams, and they led me here, and to you.' It was weird, telling at least some of the truth.
Jun 8, 2020 5:47 pm
"That settles it then. Two of...something local?..." He gives a shrug as he looks at Nadya for a moment, then back at Kaylessa. "Is there someone we can sit?

When the woman in red enters, he looks amazed for a moment, then turns back to Kaylessa. "Can we just pick a table?"
Jun 8, 2020 7:05 pm
'Local is always good to at least try. I have had some nice surprises. We should just be able to sit down.' As she speaks her eyes follow the genasi as she enters. She had heard of such people, but they were not common in her hometown. She would be another possible target if she couldn't get much more out of the strange man she was speaking to.

'Tell me stranger, what is your name?'
Jun 8, 2020 7:13 pm
Kaylessa leads Welsh and Nadya into the dining area, on the way she calls out to the newcomer, "I’ll be right with you dear! Yes, Mr. Welsh, you can sit wherever you’d like. I’ll send one of my maids, Ghileeda, over in a minute with some local ale. She usually handles the rooms, but we’re low on guests so she might as well make herself useful". With a nod she strides back to the counter, cheerily humming the entire way, and warmly greets Vanri, "Hello madam! We have plenty of rooms available, both private or shared dormitories if you want to save some coin. Truth be told, I am thrilled to have so many new guests all at once".

Even before entering the building, Aukan's footsteps echo in the gravel of the street.

The large Goliath ducks under the door, making his way towards the desk looking for assistance, wich he declared widely to make himself heard.

I, Aukan, demand to see the owner of this inn.

Aukan slams his hand open on the desk, making a loud noise. He stays on this same position, immobile, waiting for the attendant.
Jun 9, 2020 7:16 am
Kaylessa's face freeze in a look of terror at the sight of the huge goliath in front of her, but a second or two later she remarkably manages to fix another strained smile to her face and regain her composure again...somewhat..."G-good day sir! What can I help you with?"
Jun 9, 2020 2:28 pm
Aukan, unable to sense the distress on the woman, leans back and speaks.

This, instead of making the situation less threatening, only makes the Goliath look a bit taller.

What's your name?

Kaylessa seems unnerved once more, what could she possibly have done to upset this beast? "K-K-Kaylessa, good sir? What seems to be the problem?", she tries to keep smiling but it’s becoming increasingly difficult for her to keep the facade going.
Jun 9, 2020 3:50 pm
Aukan opens his hand and then crosses his arms. His eyes looking directly to the desk attendant.

Kaylessa the who? What's is that for what you are well known? What's your tribe name?

Ignorant to customs outside Goliath culture, Aukan ask the woman in a solemn tone.

Welsh was just about to find a table when the goliath walked in. He now stands, mouth half open, in awe of the hulk of a man before him. He turns to Nadya and whispers (very loudly and awkwardly), "Was he a part of your dreams too?"
Jun 9, 2020 5:28 pm
Kaylessa looks confused but significantly more relieved, "My name is Kaylessa Irkell...", upon seeing the goliath’s puzzled face she corrects herself, "Or I guess, Kaylessa the...uhh...innkeeper?"
Jun 9, 2020 5:57 pm
Aukan smiles widely and punches ligthly his chest with an open hand.

Kaylessa, "The innkeeper" of the Irkell, I am Aukan, "The fearless" of the tribe Anacalatai. I come to you to bargain. Food and lodging for the fair price you ask for those services.

Kaylessa smiles once more, "Certainly, if you’d like a private room it is 8 pieces of silver a night, or you can stay in the shared dormitories for 4 pieces of silver. As for food, our kitchen is unfortunately out of order and we can’t use the grill outside until the rain stops. If it’s urgent that you need a meal, let me suggest eating at "The Helm" on the other side of the street, otherwise we can provide some bread and cold chicken?"
Jun 9, 2020 7:46 pm
Aukan nods in agreement.

The room will be enough. I thank you, Kaylessa of the Irkell.

Aukan nudged at his throat, visibly concerned.

I would like to ask another favor from you, something to ease this thirst, if you can.
Jun 9, 2020 8:23 pm
Welsh has been eavesdropping this entire time. The words no sooner escape the goliath's lips before Welsh steps forward. "Greetings fellow adventurer. I am Welsh of the Frolicking Forest of the Feywild. Do I doth hear you doth need a drink?" His voice is obnoxiously loud and mimicking the goliath. He looks at the woman again, slamming his fist on the desk. "Then pray thee, get a drink for this great hero as well! It is my treat!"

Welsh puffs his chest out, trying desperately to impress the goliath.

This was getting interesting very quickly. She eyed the goliath as he entered carefully, wondering whether to pull him into the ploy. He looked strong at least. Yet she was often cautious tricking those obviously capable of breaking her bones with little effort. Welsh;s question helped her make up her mind.

'I am not sure. There was a large figure help you fight... yes that may be him. Unfortunately the dreams are not always clear. The genasi, she too..there was fire...' Before she finishes she realises her companion is already starting to approach the goliath. Aukan he had loudly declared his name was. She picks her free drink and settles back to watch.

Kaylessa looks in awe at Welsh, this horned goat man must be a very brave adventurer indeed to openly mock a goliath. "Err yes! Of course, a drink to Mr. Auran as well". She motions to Ghileeda to bring another ale and gestures for Auran to enter the dining area. She takes a deep breath before smiling at Vanri, "Sorry dear, I don’t know why it’s so busy all of a sudden. I’ll fix you a plate right away, you can also wait in the dining area". Kaylessa hurries into the kitchen, seemingly glad to momentarily escape the madness that suddenly seems to have overtaken her otherwise quiet inn.

Confused, Aukan turns his head looking for the source of the sound until he looks down to see Welsh.

More confused than before, Aukan raises an eyebrow trying to make sense of Welsh appearance.

Hello creature... I find your appearance something new for me. What are you supposed to be? You are ho human but you have the face of one. You are no goat, yet you have the horns of one.

Welsh is slightly taken aback now that he is actually talking to the goliath, but quickly collects himself. "Oh these? I'm a satyr!" He twirls around, allowing Aukan (and anyone else watching) to truly take in his appearance. He takes a moment to wiggle his little goat tail.

He stops and gestures to Aukan's...entirety. "And what are you, some sort of giant? An ogre perhaps?"
Jun 10, 2020 4:13 pm
Well her 'hero of destiny' hadn't been hit by the goliath yet, so that was a plus. A satyr he said he was. She tried to think if she was aware of the term. Even goliath and genasi weren't a common sight, especially all at once. Maybe there was a bit more to her vision than she thought.

She snorted into her drink at the thought, before waving over the fire genasi. If she was going to do this, she may as well go all in, and the more people between her and the medusa even he existed the better. She would let Welsh butter up the goliath at least.

'Good eve, I'm sorry but this might sound weird but perchance are you a fire genasi...only I had reason to believe you would be here.'

"Why yes I am. Why where you expecting me, do you have any information on a thug known as Grimjaw?"

'Grimjaw, Grimjaw. It might ring a bell. My visions, they are vague. It's family tradition you see. Nadya Hordeseer.' She offers a hand. And guess who, while I was searching the area all walked into the same in at the same time. ' She grins
Jun 11, 2020 12:50 am
Welsh pounds his chest at Aukan. "Please, Aukan the Goliath, join us for a drink." He grabs two drinks off the barmaid's tray as she approaches, handing one to Aukan. "Nadya here is an oracle or something. Before we listen to her, however, we satyrs have a very important custom. So important you could say its religious. Its a sacred ritual."

He turns to Nadya and Vanri, who apparently were mid conversation already, waiting for them and holding out his pint. "We satyrs in the Frolicking Forest believe that when meeting someone new, it is a good gesture to the gods..." He pauses for effect, looking around and grinning. "The gods will send you blessings if you drink an entire pint in a single go." He holds his mug up to Aukan, waiting for a cheers, one eyebrow cocked up with a grin.

I have spoken to the constable, Harbuk, about this but he's choosing to focus on trying to find bandits on the Cairn Road, and I've spoken to the town elders and...they...just laughed and said that everything is fine...I don't know why they can't see that things have been turning bad lately".

Yours is one charming personality Nadya The Oracle. Maybe one day you can tell me what future awaits this Goliath.

Aukan turns to Welsh, eyeing the map, pretending to understand but being captivated by the lines and the traces.

I am up to the challenge, when do we leave?

You all walk, more or less straight, out of the inn in good spirits. The weather seems to match it as the rain has finally stopped and the clouds have parted to let the sunshine in to dry the sodden roads. You don’t have to go very far, just a couple of houses further south before you reach the butcher. It’s comprised of four identical single story buildings all in one line. Outside of the front building is a wooden sign with a painting of a ham being carved with a cleaver.

As you enter you see a range of smoked and fresh meats hanging from hooks on the other side of the window and along the back wall. You can see a small table with a coin chest and a bigger table at which a woman is carving half a pig. She’s fair skinned, around 30 and with brown hair to her shoulders. She’s got a look of deep concentration as she carefully separates meat from the bone. "I’ll be with you in just a second, hang on". She looks up with a smile but her eyes widen in shock when she sees the group of assorted creatures that have entered her store. "Err, so, err, how can I help you?". Her hand doesn’t leave the knife.
Jun 12, 2020 8:27 pm
Welsh looks around at the shop for a moment. "Absolutely fascinating decor." He looks at her, notices the knife, and puts his hands up, palms out as a show of good will. "We come in peace. We're here to see the Constable."
Jun 12, 2020 8:33 pm
The woman eases up as you mentions the constable. "Yeah, that’s my husband. Hold on.". She moves over to a trapdoor in the floor and opens it, "Harburk, darling! Some people here to see you". You hear footsteps from the cellar and a man emerges through the trapdoor. He’s also around 30 with short dark hair and a full beard, he’s also wearing a butcher’s apron. He looks at you with the same look of amazement that you’re starting to get used to. Goliaths, genasi and particularly satyrs are obviously not a common sight in these parts. "Yes? What can I help you with?"
Jun 12, 2020 8:45 pm
"I understand you are having bandit issues?" Vanri asks. "We're new in town, but we're eager to help out."
Jun 12, 2020 8:57 pm
Harburk’s eyes light up and he smiles widely, "Really? Well that is fortunate. Yeah, we’ve been having some issues east of here on the Cairn Road. Some people have been robbed not far from Red Larch. Me and my trusties have been trying to find them, but no luck, and to be honest I’m kinda swamped with my constable duties and the butchering. I don’t have much time to scour through the wilderness. All I know is that it can’t be that far from here, all the attacks seem to be targeted around the same stretch of road about 6 miles out from the village.".
Jun 12, 2020 11:55 pm
Aukan looks around, undazzled by the butchery.

With a smile on his face, Aukan speaks to the man
Reminds me of my father pastimes. Fine work with the blade
Jun 13, 2020 6:04 am
Harburk seems a little unnerved by Aukan’s mention of his father’s pastime...what kind of pastime could that possibly be? And does he even want to know? "I...thank you...". He jots down the rough location of the attacks on your map.
OOC:

Welsh looks at the man in disbelief. "Six miles?! That's so far... And how far is it to Lance Rock? Word is that trouble may be afoot there as well."
Jun 13, 2020 8:25 am
Harburk chuckles, "I assumed you guys were adventurers? At least half of an adventurer’s life is spent walking. Lance Rock is maybe 10-12 miles away."
Jun 13, 2020 1:58 pm
Aukan looks Welsh with incredulity.

Welsh the Satyr, you are not afraid of a simple road or are you? It's just rocks and dust and dust and rocks and maybe bandits and rocks

Aukan pats Welsh shoulder.

What happened to all the enthusiasm?
Jun 13, 2020 2:36 pm
Nadya mourned the loss of the rest of the wine as she was dragged out of the tavern by the others. She had been planning to start work after a good night, and then sleep. They were maybe a little too eager.

You exit Red Larch via the Cairn Road to the east. The sun is beating down now, the temperature raising significantly mixing with the high humidity and the sweat starts to roll down your foreheads as you walk. The journey is quite uneventful, Nadya and Welsh, you sober up as you get further away from the village. You eventually get to the spot that constable Harburk marked on your map, it looks more or less like any other stretch of the road, but Harburk drew three trees that have grown to form what looks like a ‘W’ and sure enough, those three trees are now in front of you.

He presses on, however, and as the party approaches the location, he pulls out a small wand from his pocket and looks around. He whispers loudly to his new friends. "You guys see anything?"

Welsh, walking through the forest makes you feel slightly closer to home. You follow the path but as you get further into the forest, it actually opens up a little more and the trail gets harder to track. You all stop and look around but there's not anything that seems to give away the right direction. But then your ears perk up, was that...laughter? You shush the others and wait and...there it is again, definitely human laughter coming from the south-west.

Welsh, you veeeeery quietly start to walk towards the noises, making sure to stay as hidden as you can. Good thing for all these green, teal...and...magenta...leaves...*THROOM*. You're not in the same forest anymore, you're standing in a small clearing, surrounded by teal and magenta coloured trees. In front of stand a strange creature. It kind of looks like a centaur, with a lower body like a bright, teal horse. It's upper body is different shades of magenta and purple, it's scaly and well muscled, it's head kind of looks like a big tree frog with a huge set of antlers AND a horn protruding from it and it has a big set of fairy wings on its back. It's stares expectantly at you, and speaks with a much deeper voice than you'd expect, a deep baritone voice that sounds familiar, "Well? How is it? How's adventuring? It's cool, yes?

The rest of you, Welsh motions for you to follow him, takes a couple of steps and seemingly blinks out of existence.
Jun 16, 2020 3:28 pm
Welsh stammers back, trips on himself, and falls flat on his back. "I...I...I..."

He stops, remembering the voice he heard in the Feywild seconds before being thrust onto the Material Plane. He remembers the teal and magenta trees. The huge force that shoved him.

"It was YOU!" He hops up, immediately ecstatic at meeting the mysterious benefactor who began his journey. "Its SO awesome! There's this fortune teller lady, and this fire lady, and...oh man, a GOLIATH!" He mimics Auken's mannerisms and puffs his chest out. "True strength is built on challenges."

He looks up at the enormous creature. "Who...who are you?"
Jun 16, 2020 3:54 pm
The being laughter booms throughout the clearing, "I…am the great and benevolent, Ekorn! I grant wishes throughout the whole Feywild, but only for people with cool wishes such as yours, yes!". He stretches his front legs and tilts his head as he observes you, "You are an adventurer now, yes? Very successful, yes?"
Jun 16, 2020 4:05 pm
Welsh sits up, scratching behind his head. "Well, I mean, we're actually on our first mission right now. Apparently becoming a hero is a much more involved endeavour than I initially expected." He shrugs. "Having said that, we're getting paid good money to take care of some bandits, and there's a bunch of crazy weather stuff going on, which we're going to look into. I'm sure its only a matter of time before I'm a bigshot hero."

He picks himself off the ground and stands, examining the being. "Ekorn. Eeeeee-korn. Interesting name. Very cool."

Welsh nearly protests, then decides against it. He stands up straight. "Well...well I will be the best damn hero that you’ve ever seen!"

When down she will move back, hoping the others will move n front to protect her.

Welsh narrows his gaze, watches Nadya knock one of them out with her music. Welsh jumps out from behind the tree, yelling "Surprise, foul fiends!" He grins, and a dark magenta Hex shadow coalesces around the bandit in front (disadvantage on STR checks). He then fires two teal and magenta Eldritch Blasts at him.

Vanri, you hit the bandit already hurt by Welsh's spell directly in the face and he drops to the floor writhing in pain, attempting to extinguish the flame, before falling still. You severely burn the other bandit's chest, he bats the flame away but you can see that the skin not covered by his leather armour is red and blistering.

The one remaining bandit left standing takes the opportunity of the prone Aukan to slash down on him and hits him across his back. Laughing he turns around and- his laughter turns into a choked scream as the black bear bites into his neck and tears out a chunk of it. As he falls to the ground, the bear then turns its attention to the next, nearest target, which is Aukan. The bear claws across his already bleeding back and slashes another fairly deep gash into it.

She hadn't seen actual combat before. While at the start she'd be cheerful, suddenly now Aukan was down getting raked by a bear. At least the bandits were gone.

Nadya grips her Viol more tightly, as she looks at the bear 'You should've stayed in your cage, now you're unbearable' She growls, lacing her words with magic, before changing her song from the lullaby to one more soothing as she focuses on Aukan, trying to knit the wounds together.

Aukan, the only bandit left is the sleeping one. If you attack him, then it's with advantage and you wake him up. Considering you calling it cowardice to attack a person lying down, I'll switch your attack to the bear instead.
Aukan stands up and takes a swing at the bear, but misses as it disengages and runs away.
OOC:
The bear disengages and uses its movement to run 40 ft away. I believe your speed are all 30 ft? So you probably won't catch it. There's a sleeping bandit, you decide what to do with him. If you attack then you all get advantage as he's at a minimum prone for all your turns. Otherwise I'll say that you're out of combat
Jun 24, 2020 6:58 pm
Welsh looks around at the carnage of the dead bandits, then at the sleeping one. "That one...I blew a hole right through him..." He staggers back as he drops his wand onto the ground. "Holy shit is this what being an adventurer is really like?" He begins to dry heave and doubles over.
Jun 24, 2020 7:17 pm
'I knew it was you three I saw' Nadya smiles, before looking over at Welsh with concern. She could not blame him though, she realises that her own hand is still locked tightly around the neck of her viol. She lets out a deep breath trying to relax. It was fine. The bandits hadn't even got close to her. She just needed to keep this up, supporting the others from the back and this quest would be done and she could go back o her family no longer looked down upon.

'What do you reckon with do with sleepy boy? Tie him up?

"I recommend tying him up. Perhaps we can take him into town and let the local law deal with him?

Very honorable. Let the people decide the punishment of their wrongdoer
Jun 24, 2020 9:31 pm
Welsh looks up at the group, somewhat perplexed. He points at the bandit with the hole in his chest. "I suppose your dream also involved blowing a hole in somebody?" He suddenly doubles over, and unleashes a gut full of half-digested bread and alcohol into the grass. He gasps for a moment, wipes his face with his sleeve, and stands up. "Eww...I'm okay."

OOC:
Should I make a thread with party loot or how do you want to divide it?
You make your way back to the Cairn Road with the bandit in tow and walk back to Red Larch. Like the way out it is quite uneventful, the weather is more comfortable now that the sun is starting to set, and you get back to the village in pretty high spirits. As you come back, you see that tables have been set up on the main street, it looks like it's been set up to celebrate something. You walk back into the butcher's shop and see the constable with a mop, washing the floors. He smiles as you enter and looks quizzically at your prisoner, "Was it a success?".

Harburk laughs heartily, "Great job!", he looks at the bandit and his expression switches to one of pure loathing, "Come here you scum, we have a cell here for you..., Harburk grabs the bandit's wrist and opens the hatch to the cellar. Before they walk down he turns back to you, "We're having our village spring festival tonight, basically it's just a village dinner mainly, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that you should join us. It's the least we can do."

Jun 27, 2020 1:57 am
That sounds awesome! He turns to Nadya. "You up for improving a little duet? The people here tip pretty decently."
Jun 27, 2020 7:29 am
You all go back to the inn to get ready for the dinner. As you come back out, you see the that what you assume is the whole village is already outside talking, laughing and drinking. There are large fire pits outside of both The Swinging Sword and The Helm at Highsun with suckling pigs roasting on a spit. The beer and wine seem plentiful and the spirits are high.

As you walk through the crowd, you naturally draw quite a bit of attention, especially since Aukan seems to tower over everyone, but you spot Harburk waving to you and you go to sit down next to him and his wife. "Sorry about the stares. We don’t get many of your kinds through here. But everyone knows what you did today, so I don’t think you’ll find anything but gratitude among them. It’s been troubling times, but I think the tide is turning. First you guys arrive and now we’ve learned about a delegation from Mirabar that is coming through the region to survey the situation". He asks you all what you’re drinking and pours you a glass or mug of your preferred drink. "Here’s to you! And the delegation! May our troubles be behind us!". He takes a deep swig of ale and sighs contentedly. "Can’t remember the last time I had time to relax…"

Nadya grins. She was always up for showing off. 'Certainly something to do later..

As they head toward Hauberk, she winks at anyone she catches looking at her, though ashe suspects as the one human she is drawing less attention that her more distinct companions.

She accepts a glass of wine. 'A delegation? Maybe she could tell them about the medusa..though they may not listen.

Vanri is enjoying the feast, but is staying light on the drinking.
Jun 29, 2020 1:37 am
Welsh goes back to the inn, taking care to wash up thoroughly before heading back outside in the festivities.

When he emerges from the Inn, he is quite well-groomed, and already has a drink in his hand when they run into the constable. He smiles widely, pretending to understand what he’s talking about. He then smiles, takes the drink from Harburk, and toasts with him. "To a better future for all!" He slams the drink back, cheers, and looks around. "Constable...if I may be so bold, is there somewhere we might set up to regail the people of Red Larch with some entertainment?"

However she realised an error as she started to play, a screeching sound came out. She had forgotten to retune it after the fight, and her gripping the strings from stress had caused them to go out of tune. Dornan’s a town elder, and he expects people to just accept what he says because of that...what a prick...they’ve been no help lately", he clears his throat and looks at Vanri, "So, who was your master young lady?"
Jul 7, 2020 9:58 pm
Vanri perks up at the chance to speak of her master. "Her name was Arana Peacebrow. She was the best sword-smith in the whole college, even Master Rockhammer thought she was, and he's a dwarven mastersmith!"

"Master Peacebrow had a theory about magical swords that would completely change the way magic weapons were forged, and she selected me to help her with the arcane formulas!"

"Wow, so did you succeed? Did you manage to make a sword that magical?", Harburk takes a deep drag of his beer.
Jul 9, 2020 12:01 am
Vanri slumps. "No. Or rather, not yet. Master Peacebrow had created the sword and we were ready to start enchanting when the workshop was raided. Master Peacebrow was killed and the sword was stolen."

Vanri rubs her eyes and looks up. "I'm going to find the thief though, and recover Master Peacebrow's final work. And I'll complete it too, even if it takes me years!"
Jul 9, 2020 8:11 pm
Harburk nods solemnly, "I sincerely hope that you succeed. Thieves like that needs to be brought to justice".

The party starts to dissipate little by little, and eventually you also turn in for the night. Another long day awaits in the morning with the planned expedition to Lance Rock. You go to bed and dream unclear, swirly dreams about fires, earthquakes, floods and raging storms. The dreams are unsubstantial and fades quickly as you wake up, but they do leave you with a deep sense of unease.

You all walk down into the common room of the Swinging Sword, ready for another day of adventuring.
Jul 9, 2020 9:06 pm
Welsh wakes up, shaking his head. "Maybe being around Nadya is giving me visions. Weird..."

He heads downstairs into the common room, cheerfully. "Good morning, Kaylessa! How are you this fine morning?" To all those around, it is clear that Welsh is an obnoxiously cheerful morning person.
Jul 9, 2020 9:10 pm
Kaylessa greets Welsh cheerfully, "A lot better today after you caught them hoodlums yesterday! I knew I had the right feelin’ ‘bout you all"
Jul 9, 2020 9:27 pm
"You know, I think we're heading to Lance Rock today. Any tips? Info? Pointers? Local hobnobb about what we're walking into?"
Jul 10, 2020 12:24 pm
Nadya is goraning and holding her head as she comes down the stairs.

'Don't s'pose you have any breakfast? 'She mumbles at Kaylessa as she sits down, before managing a grin at Waslh.

'I had more dreams,we're on the right track.'
Jul 10, 2020 4:06 pm
Welsh enthusiastically slams his hands on the table. "I knew it! I had them too!" He flips his chair around so he can lean on the back with his arms draped over them. "So tell me, Nadya. How do I harness this dream thing? I feel like just being around you is giving me powers of being a visionary."

Welsh sits contemplatively. "Strange...I don't remember much...just a sense of foreboding now."

"Then again..." He flicks his wrist with his wand, casting Minor Illusion to create a small image of Ekorn, his patron, in the palm of his hand. "I couldn't do this a couple weeks ago, but this strange creature saw it fit to bestow me with gifts."

He holds the illusion up to his face, examining it contemplatively. "Something tells me we may be walking into a bit more danger on Lance Rock." He looks up at Nadya. "I'm very grateful for your companionship thus far, Nadya. I feel like a fish out of water here. It's nice to have someone with your wisdom and expertise here."
Jul 11, 2020 11:23 am
Kaylessa brings food and drink to the whole group, he face grim as she addresses Welsh, "I don’t know exactly what’s out there. I just hear from travellers coming that way that something foul seems to live in a cave near it. Someone mentioned the area being affected by plague...whatever that means"

'That Ekun fella of yours? Well sometimes weird creatures send clue because they feel like it.' Nadya clearly enjoys the praise she's being fed.

'Well it is the duty of my family to kind heroes after all? Though a plague.. tah tsounds fun.'
Jul 11, 2020 6:58 pm
Vanri looks curious at the mention of a 'plague'. "I wonder what form of plague they mean? I mean, if they mean the traditional usage of 'disease that effects humanoids' that's a very different thing from 'trouble or disaster'."

Taking the liberty to roll survival checks for everyone
It’s still pretty early in the morning as you start your trek towards Lance Rock. The sun is out and you think it might get really warm again in the afternoon, but there’s a pretty strong wind blowing through the trees which cools you down pleasantly. The directions given by Kaylessa has been very good and it seems like the way towards Lance Rock is fairly straightforward.

Your journey is pleasant and uneventful for the first couple of hours, then suddenly in a forest clearing you see something that makes you stop.

A weathered human skull, jaw sagging, is pinned to the trunk of a tree ahead by a big black arrow protruding from one of the skulls eye sockets. There seems to be a bit of black parchment wrapped around the arrow.

Welsh raises his eyebrow at the goliath, then shrugs and smiles. "These woods don't have you spooked, do they pal?" Welsh seems to be wholely unbothered by the revelation that magic has somehow moved to him. "Weird magic woods are a dime a dozen where I come from." He grins and smiles. "Don't worry, I'll cover your back if things get crazy."
Jul 21, 2020 10:23 pm
Aukan again looks questioningly at Welsh the Satyr, "Aukan the Fearless does not get spooked and these are just woods, Aukan the Fearless quite comfortable in woods, hunts in woods all the time." Aukan, give me an arcana check as you grab the arrow
With seemingly no more clues concerning the arrow, skull or note, you decide to press onwards towards Lance Rock. Another couple of hours pass without incident until you see it, Lance Rock, a narrow, twenty-five-foot menhir of bare, gray rock that juts eastward at a sixty-degree angle.

You walk up to it and it really is just a big rock although it's made of grey granite compared to the surrounding limestone. You look south and see a ravine choked with brush, a small path leading into it and a sign with something written on it.

Suddenly you hear someone walking from the opposite side of the forest. You peek around the rock and see a dwarf approaching.

Thorgrim had been too absorbed in his thoughts to have noticed the individuals on the other side of the big rock he had been heading towards. When the female human stepped out surprisingly his eyes instantly narrowed and he snarled menacingly as he readied his Battleaxe. At her comment he replies in a sort of grumbling disapproval, "You assume much lady and I see no goat, not that I would consider a goat a threat anyway. So is it just you and your goat?" It's cool just thought I would share a perhaps different perspective -- yeah a coming clean could be good too

Berronar Truesilver (BAIR-roe-nahr TROO-sihl-vur)
Thorgrim's eyes narrow again not sure what the game is but he was out numbered. Then again they were appearing at least friendly enough which was a change and this part of his expedition might could use a few extra folk even if they were a rather odd group of folk. "Okay, well Berronar Truesilver does not ring bells and me name is Thorgrim the True blood of King Torhild Flametongue. And to be clear, I am here to reclaim my family's heritage not stop something but if that be the path the Lady," he taps the shield with his battleaxe to emphasis who he was referring to, "wishes me to take then I will take it." Okay technically he had no such moniker but it sounded better with one and perhaps it would help with interactions if they at least felt he was considered True. I mean it was ambiguous enough as well, as it does not state what he is true to our about.

Sorry.. I recall writing out my response to this, so don't know what happened.
She hadn't been asked that question before. People normally just took her word, and didn't think into things like gods.

'Well it is a family gift, coming from generations ago where my ancestor stopped a horde with her visions. It is not one specific god who guides me, more, I just tap into energy and flow of our world itself. That is what guides me.'
Jul 31, 2020 4:02 pm
OOC:
Okay not sure how to connect the dots here -- aka get them all working together -- not something he is likely to just do -- I mean -- oh heck yeah I will join up with this group of total strangers on their madcap adventure and forego the reason I came here -- is not likely high on his current agenda
"Okay... so to sum that up you are saying you have no clue who it is that is whispering into your ear but you are perfectly willing to follow that voice. Interesting... I am guessing you have no experience with trickster gods and entities. Still as I said we will see what the Lady," he emphasizes Lady by hefting his shield again, "has to say about that. She I trust, as can you all, as it is known what she is all about. So you are all out here stopping bandits while looking for some unknown monster that is going to rend the earth. Great, may the blessings of Berronar Truesilver be with you."
Jul 31, 2020 4:50 pm
Welsh had definitely never considered the possibility of trickster gods being responsible for the visions. "They haven’t led us astray yet." He pondered silently for the moment. "Either way, we’re here at the behest of the townsfolk. Apparently there is trouble around here."
Jul 31, 2020 7:49 pm
OOC:
Well you seem to be investigating the same place, wouldn’t that be enough for a temporary alliance at least? How to go from there I don’t know, that’s up to you
Jul 31, 2020 7:56 pm
'I assure you, these visions have led my family for generations and never astray.' The dwarf was being annoyingly logical. Also trickster gods...was that why she had suddenly finally got a vision? No, she was surely just a late bloomer that's all.
Jul 31, 2020 9:13 pm
To Nadya he replies, "Well I should remind you that several generations for you short lived humans is but the mere lifespan of a dwarf and we have been following our gods for far longer than even the existence of your oral history." He then looks over at Welsh, "Okay so have you found the source of this trouble as of yet?"
Jul 31, 2020 9:14 pm

At the question Aukan realizes he might need to explain things in a bit more detail and so says, "It had a note and Nadya the Oracle is good," Aukan points the butt of the arrow towards Nadya, "she knew we," he indicates the other two using his arrow, "were all going to show up at the same place in village of Red Larch and was there waiting for us. She knew where some bandits were, and we went there and captured them, well one of them anyway, and Welsh the Satyr," he indicates Welsh with the arrow, "was made a powerful hero by a fantastical creature, so powerful that he even recovered from being vaporized. So now you know and I hope you understand."

Thorgrim was not sure what the big guy had just explained to him, definitely was not the significance of the arrow, but he did seem quite convinced of all that he had just shared. Still all Thorgrim could think to say in response was, "oh.. kay," as he looked at the other three wondering if one of them might explain what that actually all meant.

Vanri hums.

"There has been a number of unusual events around lately. The first was when Mr. Welsh," Vanri gestures to the satyr so it is obvious who she was talking about, "disappeared momentarily as we were approaching a bandit camp. After he reappeared he says that he was contacted by his patron."

Vanari sighs, "The most recent was just a few hours ago, when we found and enchanted arrow and note. The magic seems to have discharged when Mr. Wlesh retried the note, to no obvious effect. Vanri nervously presses her forefingers together.

"Not, yet My. Welsh, I'll need some time to prepare the correct spells. What I hope is that under less of a treat, and a chance to consult some of my notes, I might be more successful in identifying the magic than I was the first time."

Nadya used deception. It had no effect. Nadya is confused.
As my companions have said, a lot of strange things have already been happening. Why Welsh here originally came from a different place entirely, but was summoned to help. Nadya was beginning to wonder if it was necessary to try and get the dwarf to join the ploy. He seemed to be more cautious of random strangers talking about destiny than the others, and that was very rude of him.

OOC:
Alright, so to move this along. You don't have to work together with the group Thorgrim, however you're both exploring the same area so what do y'all want to do
Aug 7, 2020 10:41 pm
OOC:
Well I was hoping you had a plan for this ;) as the intent was to become part of the group -- I will say it would have been easy if he had bought into Nadya's scam but the dice agreed with his suspicious nature -- as for Thorgrim he is kind of waiting to see these others are going to do
"Interesting, well as I said my purpose here is to reclaim my family's heritage and that has brought me here," Thorgrim points up at the rock. "Are you planning on doing anything here or were you just passing by?"
Aug 8, 2020 6:43 pm
OOC:
Well I can really only give you opportunities to join, the rest is purely character work. If your character doesn't want to then I can't make him. But since you're exploring the same area you're at least forced to work next to each other
Aug 8, 2020 11:21 pm
When no one else speaks up, Vanari raises her hand again.

"Mr. Thorgrim, we were in this area looking for 'something foul' living in a cave in this area. Several of the locals claim that it is causing plagues and the like. We were hoping to put a stop to it."
Aug 10, 2020 3:29 pm
OOC:
Well it would be pointless if we did not join forces ;) --- still thanks to ToDream we have a cracked door we can now open
Thorgrim eye'd the group suspiciously but thought to himself a few extra bodies might make getting this next piece to the puzzle a bit easier than he had getting that last piece. Perhaps... maybe... the Lady was extending a hand, I mean it was not like he had been one of Her more impressive nor inspiring followers. Heck he had not even wanted to be Her cleric, She had just been the only one he had really qualified for. So it had either been Her or a life in the family kitchen, and that prospect had been a haunting nightmare for him ever since his youth. He had always had dreams of glory and notoriety amongst his people and that was not gonna happen from within a kitchen. So he was frankly willing to die for that opportunity, which he had already nearly accomplished twice, and if it meant serving a more maternal deity than so be it. Still it had not been an easy path to walk thus far, and surprisingly the Lady had not deny him each morning although he kind of expected Her to one of these mornings. All the speculation he had thus far about what he was doing and why She had not denied came back in flood... and before he could rethink what he was going to say he found he had already said: "Well, my path most likely leads to this cave you speak of. So if you would like to accompany me I can take you there."

Vanri smiles and nods.

"I cannot speak for the other's Mr. Thorgrim, but I for one would find your direction most useful."
Aug 25, 2020 8:20 pm
You all walk down to the path and the sign. As you get closer you can read that it says:

Come no closer

lest you catch

the disfiguring plague

that afflicts me!

The Lord of Lance Rock

The trail continues down to a cave mouth. You can see another sign posted outside that from this distance looks similar to this one.
Aug 26, 2020 7:52 pm
"More warnings. Mr. Thorgrim, this is what we came to investigate. You may turn back if you wish."
Aug 27, 2020 9:54 pm
"Nay I have faced far worse than some disease and besides we Dwarves are known to be quite resilient to such things. Who knows maybe this guys disfigurements might have him looking like... that thing she," he indicates Nadya "saw in her visions."
Aug 27, 2020 9:57 pm
'If these disfigurations look like snakes, then definitely not something we want to catch.' She looks cautiously at the cave.
Aug 28, 2020 12:28 pm
As you move closer to the cave mouth you see another sign with the same message.
OOC:
Do you move into the cave?
Aug 28, 2020 2:52 pm
OOC:
Darn tooting.
"Err, does anyone need a light source? I don't, but I understand that many do."
Aug 28, 2020 3:01 pm
'I will. Unfortunately my gifts don;t extend to seeing in the dark.'
Aug 29, 2020 11:46 pm
Vanari gestures and lights her hand on fire, then uses that fire to light a torch from her pack.

"It's not much, but its better than nothing."
Aug 30, 2020 12:45 pm
The cave mouth opens into darkness from which a breezes blows, carrying the faint odor of death. Inside is a natural cave, its floor and ceiling uneven. The passage leads to the west, narrowing as it proceeds. A body is sprawled on the floor 60 feet into the passage.

"I suggest going slow and carefully. We don't know how dangerous this place is."
Aug 30, 2020 7:11 pm
'Perhaps one of you should check if they are dead?' Nadya stays at the back of the group as she nods towards the body.

Aukan watched and listened to the interchange but had very little to interject so simply just listened. Still it appeared Nadya the Oracle was once again correct because the very short newcomer, this Thorgrim the True seemed to joining their crew.

When Vanri the Genasi lit up her hand to light up a torch Aukan was impressed some being of the fire folk was more literal than he had first understood. Still the torch idea did seem sound as such he pulled out one of his own and lit it off of her's and then with took a moment to organize what he was carrying. He slipped the arrow into the hand with the torch careful not to burn it and then ready his heavy hammer in his other hand.

Time to get inside
Nodding to Aukan, Vanri carefully follows the first person to enter the cave.

You all walk into the cave. As you approach the corpse you can see that it is of a human male and that it's only wearing leather breeches.
OOC:
Do you want to continue past the body? What is you walking order?
Sep 6, 2020 11:08 pm
OOC:
Vanari is relatively short ranged, so she is going to be somewhere near the middle. She also intends to stop by the body if no one else does.
Sep 8, 2020 1:12 pm
OOC:
Okay, I'm going to propose an order and if I hear no objections, that's what I'm going with. Thorgrim (he's not a part of the group and seems like the type to lead the way), Aukan, Vanri, Welsh and Nadya

Vanri, what do you want to do in regards to the body?
Sep 8, 2020 1:52 pm
OOC:
Sorry for the disjointed delay holiday weekend no internet -- counter proposal to walking order

Thorgrim (he is on a mission), Vanri, Welsh Nadya, and Aukan (he can see over everyone's head as well as see everyone and is a the protective sort)
Thorgrim looks at the group and hopes his acceptance of them will not be his downfall but he has task in front of him that is far more important than these threats about being diseased. Still being the ever cautious one he slowly walks forward looking about thoroughly as he does so for any indication of some potential traps. Things not only created by others but those left behind by his ancestors to deter those not meant to tread these grounds.

If he spots nothing he will slowly make his way to the body on the ground, examining it first from a short distance then assuming it still appears to be dead moving in a bit closer to prod it with his battleaxe.

Cool, we'll go with that order.
Thorgrim, you approach the body and it appears to be a regular corpse, but as you prod it with your axe it groans and shambles to its feet. It slowly turns its head and stares at you with dead eyes.

I don't use individual initiative, so everyone can jump in at anytime. Otherwise there's too much waiting around in my opinion. So, three of you go, then the zombie, then the final two
The zombie moans, maybe in pain or maybe just because it's a zombie, as the flames singes its matted hair and Aukan pops its left shoulder out of socket with his hammer.

It's a way some of our othe DMs have used, so the order is in what we post, to save having to wait for one person, and also allows the DM to slip in with how the attack does, so others can plan their turn in response.
Nadya wishes she had been wrong about the body. 'Undeath isn't a good look on you' She directs her magic towards the zombie.

OOC:
Exactly, so I’m this case three of you got a higher initiative than the zombie, so three of you get to act before it does. Which ones of you actually act is up to you which means that you can either use it tactically or efficiently ie whoever logs on first, that’s up to you
Nadya, you see that the magic does seem to affect the zombie, but not by much. The zombie ignores Aukan and instead attacks Thorgrim. It catches the dwarf with its right arm and delivers a heavy blow to your head.

Welsh squeaks and directs a blast of energy at the zombie. The beam of energy hits, but only with a glancing blow to its already injured shoulder.

Well the seemingly dead body getting up was not actually all that surprising to Thorgrim as he had half-expected it which was why he had prodded it first. However, the blow the zombie landed was unexpected and hurt nearly dazing him. While the blow would not have rocked a dwarf, Thorgrim chose to roll with it some and used its momentum to take a five foot step back away from the zombie. Where he then took a moment to call upon his patron, "Oh Revered Mother grant me your healing touch," to heal him of the fairly substantial wound just delivered.

Rolls

Cure Wounds - (1d8+5)

(2) + 5 = 7

Aukan is annoyed that this thing chose to ignore him, he obviously is the most impressive and dangerous combatant here. Well it will regret having ignored him that was for sure. Aukan not only swung his hammer but he followed it up with the torch. "Die you... you... dead thing."

Sep 17, 2020 1:05 pm
Aukan, you swing your hammer down onto the zombie's head which fully explodes under the force. The thud of the now headless corpse dropping to the ground echoes through the silence of the cave.
Sep 17, 2020 9:57 pm
Aukan feels his hammer hit solidly but when the torch arrives there is nothing there to receive it so he just holds it over the now headless prone body and looks about for something else to hit growling in annoyance as he finds the fight is over. He makes a final grunting bark-like sound at the prone body making a useless threatening gesture towards it with his hammer. "Worthless... body." He then looks back over his should at the others and says while pointing his hammer at the body, "This not natural, how could it be?"
Sep 17, 2020 10:01 pm
Thorgrim looks at the now demised undead and replies, "Well I would venture to guess that whomever posted those warning signs is responsible for that thing and left it here as a deterrent to dissuade folks from going any further. So," he glances at the others checking to see if their nerve had been shaken asking in manner that suggested this was something he had expected or something he deals with on a regular basis, "shall we continue?" Meanwhile in the back of his mind he is pondering what this might mean, he highly doubted it was something his ancestors left behind and with those signs posted had some necromancer moved in to defile dwarven ground.

"I do not like the undead," Vanri states simply. "Bodies should not move without the fire of life. And those that employ them should be punished."

You press on as a round, high-ceilinged cave opens. It has two narrow exits, one leading north and the other south. A flat boulder sits in the center of the cave. It’s about six feet across, eight feet long, and three feet high. Dark stains color its top.

Thorgrim, you lead the party onwards when suddenly you feel a sharp pain in your head. Your eyes blur for a second before refocusing on a small pile of scattered rocks and a broken wooden box that you surmise previously held them. Your attention is quickly grabbed by two falling corpses landing hard on the ground in front of you. Slowly they shamble back onto their feet and turn their attention towards you.
