OOC Chatting

This thread is mostly used for general reactions to events in game, out of character discussions, basically anything that doesn't directly go into another forum.

Okay you all will be going through an taking notes on what has come before now. Try to get that soon-ish. Once that is done I will get things under way as it appears only the character creation was done.

BTW do any of you know how to set up permissions on a Sub-Forum ... I have done it before but it has been a while and I have forgot

Hey folks, just giving everyone a heads up that I'm going to bow out of this game in the interests of managing my time better. Hope everything goes well!

Another GM from another game tried to do this but sadly we didn’t find a way to do it so we just went with using notes instead. No one else can read notes except GMs and those they address.

Anyway, Thanks :)

I can help with subforum permissions. What kind of permissions are you trying to make?
Jul 1, 2020 3:31 am
I was trying to basically make a group that if you did not belong to it you could not even see the posts within that subforum

And while I can make a Group -- I could not figure out how to add someone to nor how to give it rights and/or how to get the subform restrictions -- of course maybe the simplest way would be to only give access to that sub-forum to folks with GM status but I did not see how to do that either
Jul 1, 2020 3:48 am
I'll try my best to explain it. I could also do it for you if you want.

Click on the Administrative Control Panel (ACP).

Add a new subforum if you haven't already. It should pop up in the list.

Click on the key icon next to the relevant subforum. You should end up with a page that has three tabs, Subforums, Groups, and Permissions.

In the permissions tab, I believe there should be a group with the same name as the game. If there isn't, go to the groups tab and make a new group, and add everyone to the group.

Anyways, click create next to the group name, then edit. Turn everything off. That should stop anyone who's not a GM or an admin from viewing the forum.

If you want to add a person to the forum permission, click create next to their name like you did with the group name, and edit their permissions so that they can read and post and that kind of stuff.

Okay I think I did that can you look to see if you can see the subform GM Collaboration and/or the thread within called General Collaboration and/or its contents ??
Jul 1, 2020 3:54 pm
It worked. I can’t see the sub forum now.
Jul 1, 2020 4:43 pm
Ah cool but can remspeedwagon see that subforum now ;)

My apologies for the delay was planning on working on this over the weekend but got laid out due to overheating on Friday
Jul 7, 2020 2:35 am
No worries.
Jul 8, 2020 3:43 pm
Just checking in. No rush DeJoker, I know you have a lot on the plate here
Jul 8, 2020 4:02 pm
Still have this slated to be addressed and have much of the preliminary stuff out of the way will be digging into more of the meat here shortly hopefully I will not get laid out this weekend and I will have more time to pick up all the remaining details
Jul 9, 2020 5:20 pm
So while Joker gets his stuff together. I hope I thought, just ideal chitchat might be good to keep this active a little?

Anyone have any favorite Mecha anime/stories?

Honestly, I was introduced to it like most 90's kids with Gundam Wing on Toonami. Though my guilty pleasure has really been Zoids (I swear if someone made a Lancer/Zoids-homebrew I would be so quick to jump on it)
Jul 10, 2020 12:35 am
Man I had forgotten about Zoids until you mentioned it. That was some cool stuff. I had a Zoids game, I don't remember the name of it, on Gamecube back in the day and I played it like crazy.

When I was a young fella I loved Exo Squad. That probably started me on mecha. I watched Toonami as well but I've actually never seen Wing. As much as I like mechs there's a lot of stuff I haven't seen. I did love G Gundam on Toonami though. I think I'm more of a super robot guy than real robot. My favorite show is TTGL. That one really grabbed me.

While we're at it, does anyone enjoy the Arthurian legends? I don't know a great deal about them but I did have a book with some of the more popular stories as a kid. I was probably in the 5th grade and they had been rewritten for that age group. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the only one I still kinda remember. It was a cool story.
Jul 10, 2020 2:05 am
Gundam Wing for me also. Enjoyed a few books in the MechWarrior universe but didnt play it much.

Arthurian legends influence or copies are pretty much everywhere :P But my favorite appearance of Arthur and Lancelot is in the Fionavar Tapestry from Guy Gavriel Kay
Jul 10, 2020 2:19 am
I don't really remember watching any particular mech media. I just think large robots with large weapons is an inherently cool theme.

I've read some of the Arthurian legends as a kid. There's also a satirical kid's version I read about Sir Balin, which I thought was funny. Overall, they're okay. Feels like once you've read one tale of chivalry, you've read most of them. Also, Galahad is totally a Gary Stu, even more so than his dad Lancelot.
Jul 10, 2020 2:50 am
My earliest mech shows were probably watching Zoltron or Robotech at my Grandmother's house, as neither show was on a local network.

My first mech RPG was a copy of the Mekton Zeta technical manual. I never got to play it, but I still have that technical manual, though I have to be careful handling it because it's spine glue is completely gone.

I've never directly read on of the Arthurian works, though I love the way Overly Sarcastic Productions covered them.
Jul 10, 2020 4:52 am
Favorite Mech game was Xenogears, it's a PS1 game.

I watched Voltes V, Transformers, Daimos, Gundam, Ninja Robots and Brain Powered as a kid.

Okay got some stuff done this weekend but the heat was enough to interfere with clarity and I did not get as much done as I was wanting to -- so posting my status since I was not able to fully address this one yet -- still I will be pushing it on my list as a gitter dun thing and I will thus gitter dun

Once I have the foundation set you will find that most of the time I will be able to respond post wise fairly timely (under normal circumstances).

So I thank you for your patience

That's nice. We're excited but do take your time :)

Aug 10, 2020 4:05 pm
Yep. I’m still here.
Aug 10, 2020 8:30 pm
Alive.
Oct 26, 2020 9:04 pm
Well I hope folks are still alive -- and would those still planning on playing please give a holler back and ratchet your character back to AL0 (or LL0) as I am planning a slightly different start as well as a minor adjustment to what defines you as a Lancer

Anyone familiar with the Pacific Rim movies -- if yes other than you not needing more than one pilot I am kind of going to run a bit with that aspect as to what separates Lancers from ordinary Mech Pilots -- that being said -- I would also like us all to start on the ground floor so-to-speak and move forward together with how things work so we can fix any kinks early on. Note getting advanced mechs and such is going to be handled differently so that is not going to be an issue at all... with the appropriate resources one just prints the ones they have Access to.

That being said I will be working in some rules to govern what it takes to print a mech as unlimited resources is not going to be available and as such part of what you maybe doing is gathering these resources.
Oct 28, 2020 5:44 pm
Hmm did everyone lose interest ??
Oct 31, 2020 12:34 am
I'm still here.

You can borrow some of the Long Rim ideas, or make people find specialized resources. (I don't think printers are Engery->Mater replicators.)

In the campaign I am working up, there's a strict shortage of reactor materials from something mech-scaled, and the players have to acquire more for mech upgrades.
Oct 31, 2020 12:42 am
They do not say what the printers are and since I have experience with our current technology when it comes to 3-D Material Printers I am just going to view these Printers as simply more Industrialized versions of these BUT -- they require a qualified Tech to Plug-Into them and operate them -- and they only Print the Components -- the Tech still has to assemble these components into a viable Mech

And you are running a game using the same basic Guidelines?
Oct 31, 2020 2:25 am
Sorry, I opened the post, read it, and forgot to write a reply. I believe that the printers are just another way of saying that the setting is post scarcity. Can you be more specific about what kind of changes you are thinking of? I've watched Pacific Rim before, but I want to know what specific aspects of Jaeger pilots you were thinking of.
Oct 31, 2020 4:04 pm
Basically I outlined it but I am guessing you missed it in that description -- and I am sort-of borrowing from it -- basically you are an Augmented Human -- and you can pilot a Lancer due to these augmentations -- and you literally become one with the Lancer -- further what makes you special is you survived the transformation process that turns you into a Lancer Pilot.

So the concept I am sort-of borrowing is the Drift but your not Drift without a secondary pilot as you are Drifting (or Merging) with the Lancer. Further your movements and actions within the cockpit operate the Lancer -- unlike other others piloting a Mech thus your reactions end up being faster than those of a Mech Pilot

As for the concept of Printing it still requires special materials to print some of the components of a Lancer and you can either get them from finding them or you can take a previous Lancer and scavenge it for the materials (and/or parts)

Any other questions or is that sufficient

Note the reason for the License Levels becoming Access Levels -- is that every Lancer Pilot is imprinted with all the knowledge they need to know about how to make the various components of a Lancer but due to the necessary amount of honing of ones mind the pilot is not allowed Access to certain components until deemed ready. This sets us up for what I plan to be doing game wise based on the original concept by the first GM
Oct 31, 2020 4:23 pm
Okay that means we only need to hear from Eggellis in order to have all the original players check in -- which means I need to ask would you like a couple of more players to this game -- 2 with a maybe 3rd is okay but I think 5 would be nicer as that would reflect the small Unit for both Tanks and Planes -- 1 Leader and 2 sets of 2 -- I can fill in with NPCs but it might be nicer not to -- also do either of you want to be the Lieutenant of your outfit
Oct 31, 2020 8:19 pm
That clarifies it a bit. I don't mind if more people join.
Nov 1, 2020 12:57 am
Got my revised character up. Starting off as a sniper character, eventually will turn into a fire support at LL2.
Nov 1, 2020 2:00 am
More people would be fine.
Nov 2, 2020 2:20 pm
Okay nothing form Eggellis as of yet -- posted for 2 maybe 3 players to fill in if we do not hear from Eggellis by this week I will assume they vanished or lost interest
Nov 2, 2020 7:36 pm
Okay due to ToDreams character's background and skill choice -- they are the most logical choice to be the acting Lieutenant of this unit -- congratulations on your new headache -- I mean promotion

Note though while the Lieutenant was assigned command of the unit when we start the game they get to deal with the fact that they no longer have anyone to report to or enforce said leadership and thus it will eventually roll back to a group of equals about a round table ;)
Nov 2, 2020 8:09 pm
Hi everyone, new player here. Besides starting to think about what character I build, let me know if I should take special attention to any thread in this forum. Thanks!
Nov 2, 2020 8:37 pm
As far as I know other than the current character list -- my synopsis of the players and their Lancer type -- so far its pretty brief hoping ToDream will let me know how they see their Lancer so that I can outline that so others will know the current make up of the Unit
Nov 3, 2020 2:11 pm
I'll certainly try. I'll have to rebuild Yueen so they aren't LL1 but if I remember correctly I was looking at a gunslinger build.
Nov 5, 2020 3:33 pm
Okay just need to touch base -- we are basically down to just 2 players and it does not appear anyone else is interested in joining -- do you two want to continue with just the two of you ?? And/or would the two of you like to make two different characters to help fill out the 5 person unit ??
Nov 5, 2020 3:51 pm
Ouch!

Oh, man, I thought there was a bigger player base for Lancer... Well, I'd say that we wait for one more week or so, and if nobody pops up, we cancel the game, and we'll see if next time we are more lucky. :-/
Nov 6, 2020 10:49 pm
Agreed. No offense to you, but sometimes its just the concept. Other times, you just don't get lucky.
Nov 6, 2020 11:26 pm
I am not offended -- I have run so many PbP games over the years I have long ago learned that it is a hit or miss situation but generally leave it up to the players to decide what they want to do and go with that. So if nothing changes by the end of next week I will call this a done deal and let the original GM know -- if they happen to not be following this chat -- what occurred
