OOC Planning

Jun 12, 2020 12:56 pm
This thread is for discussing possible tactics, plans of action, and other such things out of character prior to doing them in character. While not required, if you ever feel like you should look at another player and ask whether you can do something, this is probably the place to do that.

Okay you all will be going through an taking notes on what has come before now. Try to get that soon-ish. Once that is done I will get things under way as it appears only the character creation was done.

That being said can the players please chime in with what they would like to see within the game ... combat of course but more specifically kinds of missions you think might be fun -- or not so fun -- basically the more input I can get from the players the better I can make the game for everyone

Fun: I imagine the team will be in a lot of defensive situation at the beginning, need to win with the limited resources and manpower the colony has. I'm cool with politics, rivalries, and tension.

Not so fun: I'm ok with anything.

I also like the idea of building/improving the colony.

Managing resources, maybe splitting the team for different mission. Maybe attack/defense, Intel gatherer/resource gathering. Making choices and see the colony or its defenses improve with those choices.

I also think base building would be pretty interesting and in line with the game's setting.

Since the premise is finding the space station I think that base building is almost a must. Maybe with a real focus on trying to figure out how we can afford to fix it up at first. I'm not real big on politics but I don't outright hate it. Anything else is cool with me.

One issue with true sandboxes, at least from my recent experience, is that occasional the players all get to lose ends and don't know what to do next.

I really like the idea of missions that "split the party" to accomplish a long term goal, with that be base building or resource/influence gathering. Reminds me on how be mecha anime works

Okay just a heads up -- I run a mission oriented sandbox -- what does that mean -- well I will create missions and you get to go on them -- but while on a mission you may find something of interest you want to check out or maybe you decide not to -- that is where the sandbox plays in -- so basically feel free to follow and/or pursue whatever comes your way -- I will adjust the story when and as needed -- also feel free to kibitz amongst yourselves here in the chit chat area -- as I use kibitzing as a way to reflect characters with higher intelligences and wisdoms than what the players possess --- then if you all want to figure out who actuallly had the bright idea we can randomly roll using a weighted die --- note I have used this numerous times in the with the most ironic being a game where when it came to see who had the bright idea -- the low Intelligence low Wisdom Barbarian won most of the time -- it became a standing joke at the table ;)

Oh and secondary note -- the galaxy does not sit back and wait on you -- this means some missions or occurrences may only last for a short period of time -- others will get harder over time -- while missed missions/occurrences may have consequences so sometimes bypassing something that seems minor might not actually be all that minor ;) of course I will through a few fishy smelling ones low in the color spectrum from time to time as well

Sounds like fun. I do like the sandbox approach where the team gets to choose what they want to pursue specially with a team coming from diverse backgrounds.

Here's a summary of characters (don't know if they are final or active), maybe we can also discuss in this thread what roles we want to play in and out of battle.

Yuen Trueman (Player: ToDream)
Celebrity

Jacques Batia (Player: TheVagrant)
NHP Specialist
Combat Role: Melee, Tank

Nigel Wong (Player: kenesperanza)
Scientist
Combat Role: Tank

Percy Lanza (Player: Eggelis)
Mechanic
Combat Role: Melee, Tank

Bruno Schwarz (Player: Saevikas)
Smuggler
Combat Role: Gunslinger

Ector Overgaard (Player: valdettaMadun)
Hacker

------

Nigel's a hot-headed battle junkie but he's still a Scientist. His mech's gonna be more focused on defense and melee so his main role is tank. Outside battle, if he's not being barbaric in kicking or punching his problems, he can be the science person of the team.

Zek is a teacher-type. He could take a leadership role if needed, but would be happy taking a more advisory position.

Mech style (with Balor frame) will be self regenerating bruiser, alternating between close range damage dealer and tank as needed.

Starting with his own NHP, he'll be well suited for solo or multi objectives missions.

Bruno is a bit of a scruffy young guy, probably takes a junior position at the table. Born good, but lived rough. Mech style will be a gunslinger build using Swallowtail. Suffers a bit against armored opponents.

Percy could also be described as a scruffy young guy. I took the engineer background but I don't expect to play him as a big-time science guy. More the type who can duct tape a frame together and possibly blow stuff up. He's perhaps a bit less chivalrous, and a bit more hot blooded, than the knights of old but deep down wants to protect people.

I've not played Lancer before so I'm not 100% sure what kind of role he'll play in combat. I plan to focus on melee so will probably be either a damage dealer or tank. We'll see.

We have more tanks than usual hehe.

I think TheVagrant also changed his character, (Imma edit the list later).
Jul 3, 2020 3:56 pm
Minor changes in the build, but the name changed at some point. :p

So what are we missing Team dynamic-wise? Seems like Tanks and Melee is a plenty.

I was sort of thinking a primary damage dealer (maybe a Monarch?)

Probably at least one tech specialised mech with high sensors.

License plans may change naturally as we play the game too. The setting seems to encourage tons of versatility as you level up.

Updated the list. Well it kinda makes sense that we have a lot of tanks, the current priority of the colony is defense so they must've trained and invested resources for that purpose.

As for role, I don't mind if you wanna be tank too. Wall tactics is easier to set-up with more tanks on the team. Spotters and Snipers would be nice too.
Jul 4, 2020 8:53 pm
Well seeing all the tanks I am thinking about taking some longer ranged firepower. I've played a spotter before, and had fun with it, but I am currently thinking about going Monarch. But if no one wants to play a spotter, I will play the Swallowtail instead.

Yuen Trueman is sort of a female Bear Grylls. She always wants to be on the move and doing things, making her a little impulsive.
