"I’m sorry Kitty. We all give up the spark of divinity in the end to make way for others. Even the gods would fade into a different form were it not for worshipers who sacrifice for them. You saw what the eagle knights did to the silver knights in Baya. This knight will do the same for the thug. He has chosen to lose his divinity and therefore his life. There is no reason to sustain a man who is already dead to himself."
OOC:
as Jacob has confessed earlier when commenting on the differentiation between character and player. This is an opinion steeped in Maztica lore and society. Duke believes in this. I do not.

I look around the square at the faces to see if we are being looked at as saviors or as the bigger monsters who dispatched the smaller ones.
Having not cast any fireballs into a crowd and stolen from honest vendors, there doesn’t appear any animosity toward the party. In the contrary Storm has demonstrated generosity. Jacob has offered revenge. Kitsune has offered mercy. Kon has offered his medical expertise and Dukalu has relaid the law of society and Teth is always wise and her bear remains tame. The party should consider itself highly appreciated to all those who appreciate civility.

Kilikina says:
Kit thinks for a moment... "We need to go to the sewers, probably after a rest. There's some things to buy first though before we go..." She looks at the Eagle Knight, "Is there a jail? This one has been useful and deserves a second chance. If he's wise enough to take said chance that is and if it can be provided."

She looks to the rest of the group, "Anyone else got any questions? My love, remove your sword and heal that please for me."
I pull my wife closer to me and look into her concerned eyes. I see the undying empathy and the conflict within her. I feel for her. I kiss her forehead in sympathy for the pain that she feels for the thug that she would have had no trouble before killing herself. "My love, I wish to pursue these criminals to their hideout, but you are right, it will not leave without us and we could use some rest. I look forward to our talks that soothe my nerves. We can do nothing more for this soulless one." Sheathing my sword, I also release the thug from my rope to the hands of the eagle knight.

"Shall we to the north and find this inn Passion Flower spoke of. Did she say it was in a park? I’m sure it is as crowded as the rest of the city. Why would an inn take us when the poor crowd every corner of the city already?"

Kit looks back with a mixture of emotions. She understands that this is just how things are here, but she’s torn. He didn’t fight. He didn’t just give bare information, he told them what they needed to address the situation without walking in blind. In her eyes, there’s no reason he can’t receive a second chance. But this wasn’t her choice to make and not the battle to have at the time. She nodded at the question to go back to the inn and went and mounted the horse without saying anything, still debating how she feels about the situation.
OOC:
I get that it’s part of the lore, I’m still learning the lore of this land. I just showed a bit too much of myself, my bad!

In RL, I have similar emotional conflicts based on my beliefs. Still, in game, if you look over at the charred remains of the men, women and children, result of the fireballs he was throwing at them, you may better understand the position of the Eagle Knight.
"Left to his own devices, this one would return to the sewers and warn of our coming, as well as be the first to put a knife in your back for trusting him, and two in Kon for the loss of toes. I agree, jail is the more civilized option, but we are not the law of this land" whispers "yet."

"Hence my lack of compassion for the murdering thug."

Looks around to see if Passion Flower is around, "Yes, to the Inn for now to rest, drink, play and plan. Not necessarily in that order."
Sep 30, 2020 10:33 pm
Here I am. Once the commotion died down I came back to see if my fortunes have been for naught. Thank the gods you still live and seems like heroes as well. Do you need help finding the Inn of the Faun?
Sep 30, 2020 10:36 pm
"The city is crowded. Will there be room at the Inn? Even for our beasts? I suppose that would be sans Bear, yes Teth?"
Sep 30, 2020 10:42 pm
"You May consider keeping the bear if you can. The Inn is in the park and the horses are safe there if you can negotiate with the dryads. The Inn will be empty of refuges but I suppose our green folk can talk his way into anyone’s heart?"

"Surely in this gloomy place happy songs to take the mind from the pain are worth a few rooms. Kon has an endless tap, so we won't even need their ale." Takes her hand and starts to lead the way, then remembers he doesn't know the way, and defers to her lead.

The thin lady in silks see the confusion in Jacobs lead and takes his arm into her arm so that they may walk together toward the north out of the roundabout.
Oct 1, 2020 6:36 pm
As the party ambles out of the roundabout going north, a cry from the Eagle Knight is heard and then a thud. The path north through the crowds of refuge tents and overcrowded buildings finally breaks way to a vine covered wall 12 feet tall. The sounds of animals and birds can be heard in the canopy of trees behind. The smell of fresh air greets you and you remember what outside the city was like just a few hours ago. There is an archway where nobody crowds. The path seems open through the gate but no one enters or leaves. A fog settles along the ground. Through the arch, Passion Flower gestures and says, "I suggest you lead Jacob or the Druid, but all must respect the denizens of the park." As you pass through the arch, you see the twinkling of lights ahead that come from windows of some tall tower. Immediately you hear the growling of dogs and are blocked from progressing into the park by mighty trees that move onto the path.

"I'm sorry to seem rude as to your invitation, Mistress Passion, but are you leading us into danger? Are there not safer places to stay?"
Oct 1, 2020 8:08 pm
"You will not find any rooms in this city otherwise. Do you have something to fear from a silvan wood?'
Oct 1, 2020 9:05 pm
"Feels like home." I softly sing "Song of the Wood" and touch the bark of the tree closest to me.

Crystal Blue Persuasion
OOC:
The flaw in crafting a story through D&D is it has nothing to do with skill or intellect, and all to do with a roll of the dice. In the words of Neil Peart "Why are we here? Roll the Bones, Roll the Bones."
OOC:
Didn't mean to say I wanted it to change or was dissatisfied with the game. Just a bit of an observation after a crappy roll. Where does the advantage come from?

Rolls

Persuasion - (1d20+2)

(5) + 2 = 7

Advantage - (1D20+2)

(16) + 2 = 18

The trees part and you are allowed inside. As you approach the obvious center of the park you have to crane your neck up to try to see the top of the tower. It is funny but no one in the party remembers a tall structure like this when you came here. The inn disappears into the cloud bank.

To the right is a small pasture where animals graze with sprites riding them and feeding them flowers. Suddenly a swarm approaches and start the pet your horses and bull and bear. Deciding to dismount, The party allows the sprites to lead away the animals, all except the bear and Spirit who transform themselves into fey and dart into the pasture to dance with the sprites.

An elderly faun comes out of the wooden door. He is dressed in tauney clothes and a red night cap. He holds a lantern from whose light you see the wooden texture to the inn walls that looks as of a grove has overgrown and formed the tower ages ago.

He speaks something in Elven and both Jacob and Kit laugh.

"What a lovely slice of paradise you have here. It takes a special power to maintain such a peace. We are grateful. I am Tototl, of those who protect The One Tree. This is Kitsune of our kindred, her mate and protector, Duke. Kon, the dwarf is a credit to his race and an Elf-friend. Storm and Teth are friends of nature and friends of us all."
