I'll start, and I'll be brief, for my tale seems much shorter than the intricate interweaving of all of your stories. As I said, I'm a Goliath, from up in the Chimatepec Mountains. I left my hometown to seek out my own fate. On a whim, I chose to head towards Baya, perhaps to see the great ships I had heard of, but I don't really know for sure.
Along the way, I met a bear. We had a disagreement, and I left with it's skin. I ran across an old and ugly sea dog, by the name of Teoalis, who tricked me and robbed me. I chased his canoe along the coast until I found it crashed and him gone. I took back what was mine, and spent some time underground, hiding from a fierce storm.
While underground, I did battle with some fish, and then a treasure chest with teeth. In the end, we were all dead. And so I thought was my tale. But that old sea dog was not gone, he was hiding somewhere. Hiding and observing. He brought me back, took my things again, and asked me to deliver some stuff to 'an elf friend' in Baya.
I arrived yesterday, took rest at a moderately luxurious room - that would have been better had the bed been a couple of feet longer - and dined finely across the street. But, in the midst of all this, the fine lass who was tasked to care for me at this hostel became possessed. Her eyes faded away, and that voice... the strange voice... it spoke to me from her lips. It told me I would be needed at the fountain, before dawn. And so there I was."
Having finished my story, I leaned back against the faux tree trunk I had set by pillows before. "Who's next?"
"This will do fine after that little squabble. As for Maztica history, I've read and heard bits for years, but memory isn't my strong suit."
And you sir, elf, Jacob Vane. I heard you and Stormslayer talk about this Teoalis together. A mutual friend? How strange life's coincidences![b]
Tell us of this darkness, please.
The vampire we are chasing even as we speak seeks those secrets. We are obliged to leave at tomorrow morning's tide to pursue and overtake her before she reaches the Oracle of Nula, but we do not know what or where that would be. Does anyone here know?"
Maybe she is this Mother Uhti speaks of. "
