I have no idea how this is going to turn out, but it should be interesting, at the very least!

"AHHH! The One!" yells the Mephit who flies around the cavern above the water. The other stone drops to the bottom of the pool exciting all the gripers once more.

What did it say??? I sit there, stunned for a moment. A crucial moment, as the gripers calm back down again. Stones! Focus, man! I quickly snatch up another rock, and direct Maggie to follow the stone when the gripers are at their most feverish. Cursed mephit! Throwing me off my game... What did it mean by that... no! Focus! I quickly indicate to Maggie that it doesn't have to completely submerge, on the off chance that the water hurts it.

As an aside, did I get my 10G back in the spoils from the old sea dog? And do I need to update my inventory on here with the Cured Bear Pelt and with the items you did mention, or should I allow you to update the inventory with the full accounting of my spoils?

The mephit exhales a 15-foot cone of fire. Each creature in that area must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking 7 (2d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

They roll as a swarm, very quick little buggers, but they rolled a 2 + 3 which fails the DC 11. They take 11 point damage. Almost half of the fish are battered and fried.

They reach up to attack Maggie to no avail.

She tries to recharge her breathe weapon but fails.

Before I make my next move... I'm not sure how to measure the time remaining for the summon. It says 10 minutes length for the summon, would that be equated to a given number of actions, or does each action take a different amount of time? Also, at the end of the summon, does Maggie die or just fade away. I ask because I noticed the "explosive" nature of the creatures death...

And thank you for updating my inventory.

an action is 6 seconds. battles rarely last more than 10 rounds even at the longest. ten minutes is more like two rooms or one room with lots of exploration

Interesting... I direct Maggie to fly up towards the top of the cavern, between the stalactites and use her Heat Metal spell to melt any metal in the stalactites. Perhaps this might weaken some of the stalactites and cause them to fall into the water, and explode. If not, I think I'll have Maggie try to knock some loose. And recharge her breath attack, of course.

"I heat metal but not enough. Stone and air and mineral protect. No able to make magma like pretty me."

She attacks the mineral deposits instead with her claws, but this may take a while, to break through stone. It does have hit points and AC and this will work, on one, by the end of the ten minutes.

She tries to recharge her breath weapon and fails again.

hmmm... probably not the best idea to have a rope dangling in the open while a creature is using fire attacks. I begin to pull up the rope and spool it up. "You can stop wasting your effort on that. Any suggestions for dealing with the remaining grippers?" After finishing coiling the rope, I return it to my pack and pick up a few more stones. hopefully the grippers are stupid enough to keep coming to the surface when I toss the stones in. Gotta be ready.

After listening to you and nodding, she tries to recharge her breath weapon. Like a dog, she sets her gaze on the target and waits. You throw the stone, the fish rise to the bait, and she burns most of the rest. It takes her maybe 5 more times to get the rest of the fish in one cone of breath, but you both manage it together with no risk to you. Bravo. "You good One"

"Maggie, please head over there and see if you can open the door."

I pull the rope back out, and set it up to descend again, waiting to see how things go for Maggie with the door.
Aug 4, 2020 12:58 am
She flies to the jade door and pulls on an edge. Its too heavy for her. "Sorry One."
Aug 4, 2020 1:11 am
I extinguish and grab the torch, then descend to the water, and make my way over to the door. "Mind touching this?" I ask Maggie, who quickly relights my torch. I shove it into a crevice near the door, then take hold, preparing to open it. "Be ready, Maggie. As soon as I open this door, dart inside and give me an all clear if you can. Defend yourself, if needed and retreat." And so, I gather my strength and pull mightily at the door...

What? And didn’t roll an athlete’s check? Ok I’ll do it. Rolled a 6, but with your mod, the Goliath rocks! The door swings open. The whiff of decayed bones assaults you but nothing else. You look in and see Maggie illuminating softly a score of skeletons in disarray. At the rear of the rectangular blocked room and under the short 7’ ceiling is a chest bound in gold. It’s lock is the kind that is inserted into the form of the chest. The chest is 40 feet away. The room is 20’ wide. There is no light but from Maggie and your torch. You hear the snicker snatch of insects echoing in this humid hall

Forgive me for my ignorance, but I'm not exactly sure what this means. Does this mean the lock is part of the chest, as opposed to a padlock on the outside?

"Maggie, please fly over there and see if you can melt away the locking mechanism. Just... kinda push your finger into the keyhole and see if that works."
OOC:
This action is based on the assumption that your description of the lock is consistent with a lock being integral with the chest itself and still has an actual keyhole. If that assumption is wrong, I request the right to retract this directive.

If you can't tell, I like to think outside the box a little. We'll see how that plays out for me in the long run. But I'm sure as heck not going to just walk down that "hallway" full of bones. Especially if I don't have a way to even open the chest.
