Background
"Would you take 350gp and the greatclub in exchange for the longsword, bells, twine, salt, 3 days rations, and one of the healing potions?" I ask. "Oh, and if you have a few empty sacks lying about, I could use some of those, too. I wish I could take that amulet off your hands, but it exceeds my means by quite a bit."
As an aside - I'm really beginning to think that I've misunderstood the unarmed fighting style. It says "Your unarmed strikes can deal bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier." Which I thought was in addition to the base 4 damage. But then I was looking at the scimitar's damage stats, and thought to myself that it would be odd if it was just better for me to punch people all the time than use a sword. So I figured I've got it wrong, and what it really does is replace the hard-set 4 with 1d6+strength modifier? Let me know what the proper interpretation is, if you don't mind.
I'll start updating my character sheet / inventory
I turn about, glad to have some privacy again, and find that the room is surprisingly well furnished. There's even a basin, pitcher, and more of the fragrance set out. Not that I'm tempted. Flowery smelling goliaths, ha ha. I set my pack down on the chair (padded!) and pull out my stasis rod. this should make for a good security device, I suppose. I turn around and place the top of the ball-end against the center of the door and press the button. Letting go, it seems to do it's job and just hang their in the air. Good thing the door opens into the room, I think to myself.
Turning to the window next, I pull my dagger from it's sheath prepared to use it to wedge the window shut, but find myself returning it to it's place; the window doesn't open. How do they keep it cool in here, I wonder. Because it is a nice, comfortable temperature, unlike the steamy roast I'd endured on my way into town. That would be a nice trick to take with me, ha.
Finally, feeling a little more secure, with my recently developed paranoia appeased, I strip down and prepare to go to bed, rather glad for the laundry service having cleaned and dried my clothes while I bathed earlier. I flop down on the bed and nearly fall off the other side as I fell like I'm being sucked into, and then bounced across, the mattress. I flail about as I scramble free of the bed and back to my feet, on alert, panting. Then I laugh at myself. Way too paranoid. Or am I? What was the deal with Lilanca and whatever it was that spoke through her? That was not normal.
I calm myself back down and attempt to sit on the bed, quite a bit more carefully this time. And, once again, I sink deep into the bed. You'd think at prices like this, they would have sturdier beds! I scooch along the bed and try to lay down. Carefully. And find that my head is against the ornate headboard, while my feet and half my calves hang off the end of the bed. Sigh. Of course. Not made for a Goliath. Next town I visit, I'm going to need to ask where they have accommodations suitable for me. Oh well, at least the room is fairly large. I drag the mattress off the bed and onto the floor, along with all the many, many linens (Who needs this many layers? And why would I need six pillows? Madness!), onto the floor, hoping that things will be a little firmer and support me better. And, as it turns out, those extra pillows made for a half-way decent extension to the bedding for my feet. I do have to admit that these blankets feel awfully nice and soft, though, I think to myself.
As I prepare to fall asleep, I remind myself of the pre-dawn appointment, setting a mental alarm, so to speak, to wake up in time to see what this odd omen is all about. Thank goodness I've always been able to wake up whenever I plan to. I'll go and see, but I'll be watching from a side-street, on my guard. Until then, it's time for a well earned rest...
also, in case it got lost in the madness, any feedback on how to properly apply the effects of the unarmed fighting style to the unarmed strike attack damage?
Oh wait. You can’t use two weapon atttacj with a long sword. Want to change its type to a scimitar?
No, you probably don’t want the DEX weapon at all. Guess the unarmed fighting style is a separate option of attack to make. It does modify any melee weapon while grappling
After placing my pack on the chair, I load up all my new belongings, thankful in the knowledge that the boy will remain intimate with his intimates. I also place my greatclub in the corner of the room, planning to leave it behind, as the boy left in such a hurry earlier that he forgot to take it with him.
As you reach the end of the street that empties into the square, you hear the sounds of hoops and howlers, as well as the clank of metal, and the sound of a very young girl crying in fear. Getting to the edge of the dim lit square, torches on the perimeter and the growing dawn approaching, your eyes confirm what you have heard. Five soldiers in plate mail and drawn long swords are pushing around a girl of perhaps 10 years old, who is carrying on her head a large pottery that she has filled at the fountain, the water spilling as she moves back and forth to avoid the men's swords set out to trip her in jest. You hear one of the men yell out in broken Maztica common, "Dance for us squaw!" You can see no one else is in the square and all the shop doors are closed. They are 80 feet from you and are at the center of the square.
My honor and passion for justice drive me to step out, possibly foolishly, from the side alley. I draw my new longsword, thank goodness for the practice sessions with Bladedancer, looks like all the pressure over that stupid prophecy and the expectations that came with it are actually a benefit for once. I hold the sword down, in a passive stance, as I walk forward. Then with a booming voice, I make my presence know to the pathetic excuses for soldiers.
"What impressive bravery you show, five armed men against an unarmed child! Do you little boys have no honor?" As I speak and approach, I casually glance around, watching for a good place to move to for defense, limiting the number of "soldiers" that could actively attack me at a time. Assuming that my size alone does not scare them off. Perhaps a narrow alley, where I could herd the poor girl to and bottleneck them out of...
Also, you would think my race would get an inherent boost to intimidation...
