learning all the time..
Maggie flies down the hall and does as you say. She sticks her finger in the lock. "Umm, One? I'm stuck. Me finger!

She tries to heat metal to loosen the lock, but then remembers that she has already cast that today.

Well... that's not how I saw that going. "Maggie, can you limit your fire breath to a small, concentrated area, rather than the usual? Could you focus it just on the lock?"

Meanwhile, I'm using my great club to snag a few of the larger bones near the entrance to the hallway. I pick up the largest, and throw it into the middle of the pile of bones.

I also take a moment to examine the walls and ceiling and floor, looking for any signs of traps.

Try making rolls in the "Add new roll:" section below. click Add

Here is your look for traps roll.

Rolls

Look for traps (perception) - (1d20+2)

(13) + 2 = 15

Looking for traps...
OOC:

Sorry, just playing around with this, I think I entered it wrong the first time around. Then I was playing with the "re-roll aces" checkbox, and was confused because the second one accepted aces... except I was thinking 2d6, ugh. lol. Only thing I don't like is that I have to go into advanced, rather than using quick reply, which means I can't scroll up and "reference" prior communication.

I'd much prefer to take your roll for it than the numbers I generated. Lol

Yeah. I picked this up from a player knowledgable about gamersplane and they taught me to use this in play. I get a roll from them at the bottom of the post whenever they try something so its nice and honest and easy for me and then I KNOW they are trying something that might change my story.

You don't see traps but do make lovely music with bones.

Then do the roll at end maybe?

Okay, so now I want to say something like "I barely step into the room and cling to the wall as I walk to one side wall, where I check again for traps," but I don't know if that is allowed. Like, is the roll on look for traps considered "final" or can you "retry" with a subsequent action to get a "better roll"

I'm still a noob at this!

Well, I guess I got my poof versus boom question answered. Lol

The difficulty class gets higher each time at a rate determined by yours truly (see rule #1), so eventually you will never succeed.
Still no traps. There are bones that have been thrown and leaning onto the wall that you are walking along.

Halflings and some lucky traits allow you reroll 1s... no so with Golliaths

Hmmm... I hope this is worth it I pull out the trident, for it's longer reach, and use it to clear the bones away from the wall as I work myself towards the back of the room, staying close to the wall and smacking any loose looking stones I see with the end of the outstretched greatclub, trying to use a good bit of force with a good bit of force. There's gotta be a trap here somewhere... best proceed as if it's true.
OOC:
Not sure which modifiers to use, so I didn't apply them. Your choice.

Rolls

Clearing bones triggers something (unplanned)? (no idea for modifier) - (1d20, RA)

(4) = 4

Smacking loose looking stones triggers something (planned)? (strength or perception?) - (1d20, RA)

(14) = 14

In general, I assume that I'll use a d20 for most things, except for attack damage, which specifies particular dice?

OOC:
pretty much yeah
Suspiciously, nothing happens

Continue to work my way around the room, and approach the chest from the side. Reach out and nudge the chest with the trident.
