ooo... I hope that beats it's AC! That's some good damage there.
Aug 8, 2020 12:25 am
You crash down on it with a bone for the prescribed damage.
OOC:
do you know how much damage you and Maggie have done to it so far?
As you are attacking in melee with it, it attacks back with its pseudopod

Rolls

Pod attack - (1D20+5)

(14) + 5 = 19

Pod damage - (1D8+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

Aug 8, 2020 12:27 am
It hits you for 10 points bludgeoning and you are stuck and grappled. Your speed is 0 and it has advantage on future attack unless you break free or you can attack.

OOC:
I believe the total is 36 now, unless the bone jambing caused any damage, which it seems like the potential kinetic energy transfer would do, in which case the damage roll for that turn (without the modifier) might increase it to 40 +/- whatever modifier would be appropriate. But, Rule #1, so it's up to you.

Also, it can attack and grapple at the same time? I'm assuming the "stuck" you used means that it's wrapped around me, not the sticky stuff, cause it's not in a sticky form, right? Sorry, just trying to wrap my mind around this correctly (much as I think it's wrapped around me).

Also, I'm adding a Stone's Endurance roll as my reaction.
Gyarghh! This thing is really starting to piss me off. I trust and wriggle, using the bone and my greatclub to try to pry the cursed thing off me.

Rolls

Free myself (not sure which modifier, so I'll leave off and you can apply the appropriate one) - (1d20)

(4) = 4

Stone's Endurance - (1d12)

(3) = 3

OOC:
Let's go with 40 since the improvised weapon doesn't benefit from any ability
It only attacks. The grapple is not an attack. The stickiness is an innate ability which imposes the CONDITION grappled. You're stuck. Aren't rules fun!?!
Freeing yourself is a straight (no proficiency) strength check against, in this case its stickiness (usually against another's strength)
So where are you on hp with the stones endurance, i'm lost. lol
You tried to free yourself but you are still struck.

It takes it's pod and attacks again.

Rolls

pod attack - (1d20+5)

(11) + 5 = 16

pod attack advantage - (1d20+5)

(20) + 5 = 25

Definitely hits.

Rolls

pod damage - (1d8+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

Aug 8, 2020 3:54 pm
for 9 damage

Well, I think I'm dead. Cause I only have 10 hp. My Stone's Endurance reduced the damage from 10 to 7. Meaning I had 3 hp. 9 > 3. Death occurs.

So, the mimic is sticky in both object form and blob form? It's only unsticky when transforming between the two? Or is it that a psuedopod is sticky, regardless. Just trying to understand. You know, from beyond the grave.

As the light fades from my eyes, my last thought fades with it... Perhaps some other wanderer will use one of my bones when they kill this stupid thing...

Your keen investigation skills at the last moment of light tell you that the mimic was sticky as an object (ie chest, rope, balista). It was not sticky as an amorphous blob (the trident fell off). The part that confused you was that the object attacks with a psuedopod that is, since the mimic is in object form, also sticky. You say to yourself that you are going to strangle that wizard that invented the first mimic.

Your lack of understanding of 5e death rules are expected since your village did not see tragic death much. You didn't receive enough damage to take you to negative max hp value, at which point you die. You only went unconscious and have 0 hp. You now have to make 6 death/save throws at d20 without any mods since everyone is the same in death. The DC is average - 10. Death is so fair. If the rolls in order get you three saves before you get three fails then you don't die. If you get three fails first, well... natural 20 is counted as regaining 1 hp. natural 1 counts as two fails.

Good luck!

oh... gee, that was just me closing my eye. No need to be so dramatic...

Rolls

The will - (1d20)

(6) = 6

to live - (1d20)

(20) = 20

is strong. - (1d20)

(15) = 15

I will - (1d20)

(1) = 1

defeat this - (1d20)

(5) = 5

cursed mimic! - (1d20)

(20) = 20

Can't keep a hero down. The amorphous blob is about half way back to his post. He saw you go down, transforms back and started walking slowly. You have 1 hp

OOC:
I don't have a way to heal myself, right? Well, what the heck, I'm going all in...
I drag myself back to my feet, bruised and beaten, but not defeated. Taking care to be as quite as possible, I draw out my bow, knock an arrow... and release. Let's see how you feel about being a pin cushion!

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+3)

(7) + 3 = 10

Damage - (1d8+1)

(5) + 1 = 6

Aug 8, 2020 6:55 pm
OOC:
Any chance that the surprise nature of this attack would allow me time to pull off two shots? lol... Just in case you are feeling generous, here's a second pair of rolls for that...

Rolls

Attach - (1d20+3)

(16) + 3 = 19

Damage - (1d8+1)

(6) + 1 = 7

Athletics check to see if I'm fast enough? - (1d20+5)

(17) + 5 = 22

OOC:
LOL you are a rule bender, but no.
Your first arrow misses. He turns and squats and transforms into a ball of fish netting tied to a compressed spring.

Your second arrow hits, doing 7 damage. He is 25' from you.
Aug 8, 2020 9:02 pm
The spring uncoils and launches the net up into the air in your direction.

Rolls

DEX save for AoE - (1d20+3)

(9) + 3 = 12

Aug 8, 2020 9:03 pm
The DC for his dexterity attack was 11 so you save. You jump out the way of the net which falls to the ground.
Aug 8, 2020 10:15 pm
OOC:
Sorry, I wasn't trying to bend the rules, actually. I was just hoping there was a mechanic in place that might benefit me. And then I decided that I should soften it with humor. And provide the rolls, so that you didn't have to do them on the off chance it was an option. I'll try to be more direct when I'm trying to determine whether certain game mechanics are possible in the future.
Phew, that was a close one. Guess the adrenaline of nearly dying can really make a difference. I use that adrenaline to power through the pain, as I back away as far away from the mimic as I feel I can while still having time to fire off another arrow at the relentless beast.

Rolls

Attack - (1d20+3)

(6) + 3 = 9

Damage - (1d8+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

OOC:
Curse you digital dice machine! I don't want to almost die again! lol
Aug 9, 2020 12:46 am
No hittie.

The net pulls back together and transforms back into its amorphous blob form.
