The status rod seems to be shaped and forged seemlessly into a knob at top, probably 2 1/2" in diameter while the shaft is 1 1/2". Do not ask me to express the units in the dnd system or call out the dates in dnd format. I’m not that insane.

lol. Good to know. But you're still a little insane, right? It adds a little spice to life, speaking from experience. :)

FYI, I clicked on your Imsh Bitterweed avatar, and it acts like it's taking me to the character profile / sheet, but it then says "No Character Found," so you are safe on that angle, too.

So, I'll wait for you to continue this "character background arch" when you are ready, so you can focus on getting everyone together. I'm curious how the PBP will work with multiple players. Do we take turns speaking / acting / etc? I guess I'll be leaving out my inner monologue once we reach that point, lol. Oh, and I need to pick up a mistletoe sprig at a shop once I reach town, for my newly learned spell, Goodberry. Not sure what the proper approach to that is. And some bells, so I can maybe make a perimeter alarm with my rope when I rest in the open. Don't know what the protocol is on doing stuff like that.

Thanks! I can set up so many more NPC knowing that they still can be a surprise for the party.

I looked at your level up. I have a few suggestions which you are welcome to ignore especially if you just want to role play your character this way and don't need me to say anything. As the big brute in the party, you may not be put in the back lines doing archery. There are other players who have the DEX abilities to be better at it. Think tank. You are a barbarian with an intelligence that surprises people, but you might want to role play up the savage a bit more for fun. Also, I know you want to focus on staying well fed, but you will see from the pace of the PBP and group dynamic, that role playing good cooking skills is too slow. Got any spell more flashy to take than goodberry? The material components allow you to role play the spells better. Play it as much or little as you like.
You can buy all the bells in Baya with that stash.

"Yeah, what he said. I like to stick a lit incense stick as the material component, up the nostril of the severed head of my enemy and cast Speak with Dead, so I can be known as that guy who likes to kill first and ask questions later."

You gather you things that are not rotting and hike a bit more north. Perhaps you stop by a stone that holds rainwater to bathe before walking into civilized lands, or perhaps not. Even with your two bear skins gone, you announce your presence well in advance. Over the last pointe an across the last bay, you see what must be Baya. Her stone towers and eloquent wooden houses spring forth from the shale bedrock that steps down to its clear and still shipping channel. Several small ships are there though they look grand to you. They are rough copies of the Faerun ships that have started to come to the shores of Payit and have made it around to the western shores now of Kolan. The city architecture cries out stability of land versus the fickleness of the sea. You like this place instantly. What strikes you most about it?

Did the old sea dog take the salted bear pelt? Or did that decay away? I didn't realize he took it, if he did.
What a strange idea. Building houses from wood... houses grown from stone are so much more durable. Perhaps they don't know how... My eyes are drawn back to the ships. How could such large vessels stay afloat? What keeps them from tipping over? Perhaps it's yet another magic I am unfamiliar with.

I begin the last few steps towards the city, the port. Why did I chose Baya? I don't know. And now that I draw near, I wonder where I'll go next. I've got some coin, quite a bit more than I started with, though I paid for it with my life. Perhaps I'll find a room for the night, and a good hearty meal of NOT GRIPPER. And maybe a bath that isn't so salty. Ocean water is definitely not the best way to clean off, I've learned.

And in the morning, I think I'll do a little shopping... this great club is a little worse for wear, what with cracking it against that stasis rod. Plus, I need to get a few other supplies, things I should have gotten before I left, but couldn't without tipping everyone to the fact that I was leaving. Some bells for sure, at least until I can figure out a way to set up a perimeter like that old sea dog used. hunh. Guess I'm planning on not staying very long. Already planning to be out on the road and in the wild again. Wonder why that is.

I trudge up the steps of shale, and enter the city, looking for a reputable looking, but not expensive, inn. I skip the one on the edge of town, it looks a little too sketchy, and make my way towards the center of town. A sign painted boldly with a big wagon wheel behind a flagon and a loaf of bread catches my eye. As I draw near, I can make out the worn lettering apparently people prefer pictures to words here just below the freshly repainted picture: The Old Spoke Inn. The windows are fairly clean, and the door looks to be hung straight and true... I think this might be a good place to spend the night. I open the door and walk in. Apparently I've at least chosen a place with good food, for there's quite a crowd for this early in the evening. Scanning the tavern, I try to locate the proprietor...

The wood of the town may have looked insubstantial to your mountain bred eyes, but the wood grew in place, it was rooted and coaxed into the forms of the house, not too dissimilar to your stone forms...

I'm thinking a little less trope and more organic magical Maztica
You meet people in bright colored clothing going through the narrow streets, carrying baskets and rolls of fabric and fresh cornbread. A copper piece buys you a loaf, but when you hand them a gold piece, they just smile, wave away your coin and give you a loaf instead. Always they would ask if you needed a place to stay. You were obviously new in town and in desperate need of a bath. After having a few of these encounters, you have several addresses in town. The signage are colorful glyphs on sea shells, each glyph being a phonetic part of the name, and clusters of glyphs would spell out a longer word or phrase. The first glyph in a house's name would be the district, so navigation wasn't as hard as you feared. The road from the docks and the road from the caravan trails to the east, joined in a grand plaza with a opulent water fountain. Temples of all the gods surrounded the square and in the middle vendors would lay out their wares on woven blankets and perhaps pitch tents. Servant girls go to the fountain and collect water for the great houses nearby. Artisans have their shops on side alleys off the two main road. There were no guard posts or garrisons or troops or administrative buildings that deal out judgement. All that happens, as well as education and worship, at the temples. There are the occasional Jaguar Knight or Eagle knight patrolling. You witness an urchin being killed for stealing a trinket. Music and philosophy are practiced in the streets and the palapas, corner gathering spots of cushions on the paved streets under orange trees and mango and tamarind trees. After organizing your information, you have the decision to make of houses to knock and ask for entrance, priced at 20gp, 10gp and 5gp. You think that you do not want to risk getting a bad place, but the 20gp is high. Perhaps you could spend some money on a nice one though. You have more money than you have ever had in your life.

I believe I said he took back his salt, which was on the tanned hide, so no, you have no hides, thank god! You look enough like a barbarian in town as is.

After the ordeal of the past few days (I mean, come on, I even died!) I decide to take a little luxury with the mid-range lodging, asking after the availability of a nice bath in clean water. Turned out that it was free, though from the proprietor's expression - I think he saw that as an investment in savings on cleaning up after my stay. I can't blame him.

The bath was amazing, reminding me of a soak in the hot springs back home. Though it cooled quickly, it was a nice respite from the excitement. After that, it was time to feast!

The private room with the bathtub was well laid out with tub and fur rugs and padded tables and fireplace. So this is what city life is like, you tell yourself. As the water gets cold, you notice that you have not washed all the soap off. You get up to look around for some hand towels, and the door opens and a girl with mitts and a hot pitcher of water enters the room. She sees you. Your nakedness puts a huge grin on her face. She giggles shyly, "More hot water for you sir?"
Aug 13, 2020 4:15 pm
"Ah, great timing!" I walk back over to the bath, unashamed, and settle in. These lowlanders and their strange habits. I'd heard tell of this, but I didn't think it true! "Would you be so kind as to pour that over my back? And I'll be needing some towels to dry off when I'm done, please."
Aug 14, 2020 9:07 am
"Oh no, sir! It is much too hot. I will take care of you." She comes to the tub and pours the water in at the bottom so as not to burn your legs which are doubled up in the normal sized tub. "My name is Lilanca. What may I call you?" She goes to the wall closest to you and touches a panel. It opens to a linen closet from which she pulls two drying towels and some wash cloths. She looks back at you smashed into the tub and giggles. She gets two more towels. "We do not get many Goliath here. What brings you to Baya? May I assist you in any way?" She sets the towels on a far chair, and places wash cloths and fragrance in a basin, and though you thought the pitcher was empty, she pours more hot water from it into the basin and the rest in the tub. The fragrance permeates the room. "This is a busy town, another caravan has come in from the House of Tesca and ships arrive constantly, but I did not see anyone such as yourself come that way." She gives you a smile as if in warning and takes a hot clothe in her hand starts to scrub your back.

So... I have a question... where are my belongings at this point? I'm getting suspicious, and would like to have more context on the current situation, context that you might have in mind, but I am unaware of... (it's your fault, you've made me paranoid)

Your possessions are still here on a chair and against the wall. You never said that you went to the room as yet, but went straight for the bath.
