Now, what to play...
I'm thinking a ranger, possibly picking up some druid levels later.

Lunora, at first glance, seems standoffish and opinionated. Then you get to know her and find out that she's also stubborn, direct, prefers the company of animals to that of people, and can be a bit crude. That said, she is a loyal friend and would give her life for her principles. She is attractive, in an earthy sort of way, but her attitudes towards civilized folk and her manners leave much to be desired. Her copper hair is a matted tangle, full of leaves and small sticks, and in dire need of a brush, but her hazel eyes are sharp and clear. She is quick-witted and clever and learns from her errors. She stands almost 6 feet in height but weighs a mere 138 lbs. She moves with the grace of a gazelle, but her whipcord muscles betray her physical strength. She speaks three languages, but prefers Sylvan to all others, speaking it almost exclusively.
BACKGROUND
Lunora wasn't really raised by wolves, but may as well have been. From an early age, she spent more time among the woods and animals than even her own folk. Her parents, recognizing that their daughter had something special, nurtured it. She was encouraged to sleep outdoors and to accompany the hunters on their expeditions. She learned the ways of the wild before she was able to speak, and took her first kill at the age of 15. By the time she had passed her test of adulthood and chosen her name, she was an accomplished hunter, gatherer, and woodsman.
She had been gone from her home for almost 12 years when she first ran afoul of the undead in the form of a vampiric necromancer who was practicing his trade in a forest through which Lunora was passing. It was a long and difficult task, but she eventually defeated the undead scourge, driving him from the forest. She would have permanently vanquished him, given the opportunity. She swore to destroy all undead, sickened by the perversion of the natural order effected by this being. She seeks him still today, almost five decades later, looking to finish what she began. She follows up on every lead involving the undead, hoping that their paths will cross again. This time, he would not escape her justice.

I'm thinking of going with a Human Fighter, with the alternate noble (Knight).

Githyanki Hexblade Warlock
Kar'i'nas the Seeker
Background (Far Traveler):
Born among the far traveler Gith away from the oppressive monarchy of Tu'narath, Kar'i'nas honed his martial prowess under a more moderate militant sect of planar hunters. His creche taught the ancient history of the One Sky Accord and the need to fight the Great Foe. However, they also recognized the need for allies and the multiverse's diversity of foes. As such, their supreme commander, Gish 'Imun, tasked young warriors with monster slaying and relic hunting among Prime worlds. Kar'i'nas drew Faerun by lot. An astral skiff deposited the solo gish in a desolate wilderness to hone his craft.
Kar'i'nas has learned the wisdom of collaborating with the Prime locals in this pilgrimage. He has also come to appreciate the mundane dangers of life in the Material realm (as well as the mortals who bear them every day of their lives), unaccustomed to thirst, hunger, and weariness. Yet, never far from his mind is the Great War and the great prize to which he has pledged his soul: The Sword of Gith. With that, he could slay many illithid and other would-be overlords. With it, he could reforge the great Accord and reunite his kindred. For now, he would work to rally allies among the Primes by demonstrating that the Gith are monster slayers foremost, not merely planar raiders.

As to tone, githyanki trend serious, though I tailored Kar'i'nas to act as a spokesman. Play the character you desire to play. One of my favorite character's someone made for a halted CoS game involves an aristocrat who channeled the Slavic black humor.

I have a Gnome Rogue called Skip Gallowson that I’m creating. I’ll get these stats put on his sheet and I’ll post his back story in a minute
Born on a storm tossed night, under the hangman’s tree, his fathers body swaying above as his mother falls into labour, Skip started off his life in darkness. A darkness that would follow him, shape him, and do its best to break him.
His fathers name all but forgotten, Skip would be known by the omen of his fathers doom at his birth, eventually learning to accept it, and indeed take it as a name to shield himself from the pain.
The Gnome was a solitary figure during his youth, none of the village folk wishing their children to play with him, his very presence deemed a bad tiding, he learned to exist by himself, stalking the nearby woods and forests, hunting to feed himself and his mother.
Returning to his home in the dead of night, a brace of pheasants from a successful hunting slung over his shoulder, the coppery tang of spilled blood, the stink of fear sweat and the ripe stench of death assailed his nostrils. Creeping into the village, he found the entire population, gathered in the village square, fallen, their entrails spread about, blood seeping between every inert body. At the head of the crowd, a body he knew, tied to a stake and blindfolded, sagged against its bonds, eviscerated, it’s life blood pooling at her feet, his mother was dead.
Pushing down the fear he felt, Skip took his first step into blending with the shadows, drew his short bow, waiting, for the beast to reveal itself. When dawn broke, and no beast with it, Skip cut down his mother’s body and buried her. With nothing but a spit and a curse for the remains of the rest of the village, he gathered his meagre belongings, looting the villagers homes and, grimly, their bodies and left, attempting to track the beast that destroyed his kin.
Skip would find himself in the lowest parts of the towns and cities he would visit, learning the arts of theft in order to feed himself, selling small stolen trinkets and occasionally jewels to the local fences.
Even building on his underworld knowledge and contacts, Skip would never find much information about his mothers, and the villages, deaths. He did sometimes hear about other, mysterious mass murders, and investigated them from afar, the thirst for knowledge tempered by the knowledge that city watches and country sheriffs had no love for the burgeoning thief.
EDIT: 16, 13, 14, 14, 14, 13 Not too bad

@optimumsquare that image is soooo evocative! Also, conquest paladin (I presume at level 3 by the poster) is a great subclass. I wavered between it and hexblade.
Appears we currently have:
Lunora Wood elf ranger
Human Fighter
Kar'i'nas Githyanki Hexblade
Skip Gallowson Rock Gnome Rogue
Morticia Tiefling Paladin
Aasimar Paladin
Human Wizard
...so, two humans, a gnome, one elf, and three planetouched walk into Ravenloft.

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
- H.P. Lovecraft
There are several things that could be said about Carter Ward, but stupid is not one of them. Impulsive would be fair. Morally questionable? Perhaps. Eccentric? Absolutely.
While assisting his mentor, Wymar Armitage III, with a ritual, some sort of unearthly entity emerged from a portal and nearly tore him to pieces. The incident nearly left poor Carter with a tremor he couldn’t shake, not to mention the scar across his left eye and the chunk taken out of his left ear. Armitage wasn’t so lucky; he was torn limb from limb.
"Absolute idiot. He should have known the power he was toying with." Of course, the irony wasn’t lost on Carter. He raided the library, and was able to peruse his mentor’s records. One word kept coming up again and again. Barovia.
In an effort to recover from his mentor’s tragedy, and to continue his research, Carter Ward has come to Barovia with one goal: to learn the secrets that others dare not explore. Science cares not for the morals and ethics of men, and neither shall he. Progress and knowledge are worthy goals in their own right.
Funny story about that image; Mortica was originally Mortimer. But when i went avatar searching, I found that image. obviously a gender change was in order. since we're calling out avatar pics, galdr has a nice one as well.

Don't worry. I know one or two about a Gith who gets yanked in four directions by phantom horses. It's a real killer.
Thankfully, Kar'i'nas doesn't share this painful sense of humor.

A gallows humor bard would be an entertaining accompaniment to CoS.
