You will be traveling from far south of Maztica, from the secluded great river near the temple city of Pichu Uma where the sun god lives and rules over all of Lopango. As a noble woman of the Amazon tribes, you bear terrible responsibilities to maintaining the light and keeping it from harm, especially in these says where terrible men in great floating houses can escape their lands to the East and break through the magical barrier known as the Trackless Sea. Blackness and night and all manner of corruption of the light is coming. Even the gods of Maztica are restless and prepare for the defense. Your god has been communing with the peaceful Qotal the Feathered Dragon to the north and they see war and sacrifice as both the True Lands and the Invaders take more and more extreme magical measures to subdue the other. The threat is that other factions will take advantage of this divine battle and seek their own agendas as had happens when the demoness Obsidian Butterfly rules the solar eclipse and neither Sun god can protect Maztica. You know these cosmological battles since angelic blood flows in your veins, though it is much diluted. The desire for justice for the living and the natural world aches and envies that divine power as any one in your position of responsibility would.

I come from a large family with many siblings vying for attention from parents who are loving but overburdened. My father comes from a long line of nobles whose wealth was greatly diminished in his lifetime, due to his refusal to have dealings with the most powerful but unethical merchants in our community. I grew up under the burden of regret and bitterness of my father. He sees me as the child with the most potential to excel in business dealings and regain the family's fortune, but my personal calling pulls me toward the light and it's protection. So, I have sought out training and meditation for the upcoming battle, rather than focus on my family's standing and fortune. Yet, I still feel strongly the sense of justice and duty toward my family and hope that my upcoming place in the battles for the light will secure my place in legend and in the hearts of my parents and my many siblings. My signet ring is focused around the majestic eagle, who soars above the land, keeping a watchful eye, and who is ready to do battle for those in need.

The eagle is the spirit animal for the Eagle Knights who protect Qotal whom I mentioned is the Maztica god for peace and learning and civilization. This, despite the fact that Qotal himself is the Feathered Dragon or in the Payit tongue, the quetzalcoatl. You will be well received in all civilized lands with that signet. I wonder if the ring marks a long standing interest in the Maztica pantheon beyond your Lord of Light in Lopango. Maybe there are black sheep amongst your family that have adventures north, practice the pluma magic and knows the ways of Maztica more than they let on. Know anyone?

Hmm. My father's eldest brother was always suspected to be closely connected with those involved in pluma magic. What was his name again? 🤔

Ah yes. The one who had a foreign sounding name, Aapo. It means father of many nations. Maybe the gods at his naming saw that he would span national boundaries? Or perhaps unite them? Until your father assumed control and withdrew into conservative practices and retreated from such international issues.

He lives in the cliffs of Melchora, where he can keep an eye on the villagers living in the valley, should they need his help. But his home is up a long and treacherous path that dissuades all but the most determined visitors.

That is far indeed. When not in the temple at Pichu Uma, you will be with family in the Capitol. You will need to leave your home on Mt Cuzcalac where the nobles of the Natican have ruled a great city and journey not on a pilgrimage toward holy Pichu Umo where your sun god Intiri resides, but rather to the dark north and the last peak of the Melchora known as Apu Rock

Your uncle Aapo seems to like his residence to have a view of the dark lands to the north, the True World of Maztica. Beware this path as it leads through high jungles filled with Cayma and Drow and Jungle Orcs. Make it there and your uncle will greet you warmly. How do you proceed? Have you prepared your spells from your Druidic spell list? You may desperately need them.

Come niece, come visit me.
Aug 2, 2020 3:58 pm
You prepare your spells and feed the wild animals that come up the family manor house, nestled in the breadfruit trees of the royal quarter of the city. Gardens surround you and give you peace, but you feel like a geas has been placed upon you. You had merely thought of your uncle and he called back with a summons. You must go learn more about your signet ring. Maybe it has something to do with your destiny. Maybe it has something to do with the pending dooms that the prognosticators divine. Whatever the reason, you plan to leave this very morning. No time to say goodbye to your dozens of cousins. You pack a days rations and hope to find food along the way. You choose to not prepare the goodberry spell. You may need the other spells more on the three day trek through the jungles. If only you had studied more to take the great walk, to jump from the spirit of one Kapok tree to another, sharing in their wisdom. Experiences like that encourage you to advance in the druidic skills of the shaman rather than the priestly skills of the Light One. Still, you learned the priest guard's weapon of the bolt chucker, what some called the crossbow. You strap that to your back and check the sharpness of your plumastone dagger.

You find yourself walking past the garden walls before you realize you were even leaving. Not a time to turn back. You walk onto the alpaca paths and out of civilization out in the tree line of the great continental divide leading to Rock Aru.

A day passes without seeing much more than a snake or a tukan. Camping in a tree, and you are off on your second day. Then you faced it. A spirit animal of the hishna, that foreign magic of Maztica, a jaguar. He faces you like he has been watching you for hours from his tree limb.
Aug 7, 2020 10:12 pm
I stop and assess the jaguar. I decide to use Animal Friendship to attempt to calm and befriend it. I also use gust to send a gentle breeze of welcome toward the jaguar.

Welcome LawRubia!!! I am so glad to hear from you. For an even better experience, when you post or reply, use the "Post as" Dropbox above the text to post as your character. I like it because I post as so many different people lol and it allows me click straight to your sheet for reference. Now on with our story.

Looking into the Jaguar’s eyes, you get a brief glimpse of the world around you. There is a great movement of strangers toward a single focus point in the stars. You cannot see beyond that nexus. The Jaguar breaks eye contact with you and his growl turns into a purr. He leaps down to you and nuzzles his head in your hands until they are on his neck. You scratch and he leans and knocks your legs out from under you. Hanging in desperately to his neck he runs his sleek body under you and races with you through the jungle. Time you think is running out. You name the cat Time and smirk.

Up the final hill to your uncles house appears before. It is not possible. You have just left your home and the hills are three days apart. No accounting for Time who pads quickly up the path to the outcrop of rooms grown from the hill itself. Beams for the roof are living trees. Silver wire suspend illuminated pinya cones Your uncles tastes in architecture is quite foreign but beautiful.

if it is any way possible can you give an idea of how much time or how often you can post, so that I set you the correct amount of back story time before the group meets all together? The fifth player has chosen a frequent but complex back story that will take me another week in real time to develop and resolve, I think. She gets detailed on parts of the story sometimes and we sometimes gets sidetracked. That’s normal, the the three guys have been ready for a week and I am taking them on side treks to pass the time.

Yes, I apologize for just getting back to you. I thought it would notify me when you replied, but I didn't see one, if it did. I should be able to post at least once a day, possibly more. But it depends on the day.

Greetings, Uncle. I'm sorry my journey took me so long. Supper would be much appreciated. I am traveling towards Apo Rock. I appreciate any advice you can give me to prepare me for my journey. I have brought my signet ring, as it may help my gain warm greetings in my travels. Do you know any of the history of our ring Uncle?

"Yes, Time is swift. He has already brought you to my castle at its base. Your friends await. Atop you will find the aviary. But come inside. I have food prepared for you, all your favorites from when you were a child and came visiting. You enter the castle. It’s mostly a grand library and nothing else. There is a table of crockery filled with mango and jicama, grilled corn, fresh sour cream, puffed balls of beef and yams, aolie cheese tapioca bread, and masa breaded grilled vegetables, fermented honey drinks, and, of course, your favorite dessert, cacao pudding mixed with honey and cream and topped with chili. You serve yourself, and look at the library with adult eyes. It is dusty and smokey, but no less magical than what you remember. Aapo smokes his long pipe and watches you and when you finishes, he says, "Come to the fireplace and let me look at you." What does he see?
Aug 9, 2020 7:08 pm
"Ah yes, the ring. I gave that signet ring to your father and told him to pass it on to one of his brood that takes to nature as I have. I have collected many drawings and sculptures of animals and monstrosities and placed them in this chamber. My life was of an adventurer and collector. Neither did I take up the mantle of being an administrator, nor became an adept at the Druidic arts of Watil and Nulu. That ring, though... a priestess of Qotal gave that to me. She was sweet on me. The eagle is sacred to them. Not only is an eagle a bird of prey that protects its young, it is also a far sighted animal. It is said to see into the cosmos itself." He comes over and touches it on your finger. "I am no longer attuned, but surely you are." He sits, reminiscing.
Aug 9, 2020 8:26 pm
Aapo gazes into my eyes and sees that they are Jade, just as my friend, Time's eyes are. He notices a strange movement in my cloak and raises an eyebrow. I reach my hand in and pull out a small ball of fluff. "I left home in such a hurry that I forgot my friend, Ili the pygmy marmoset, was napping in my pocket." "I am honored that father passed the signet ring to me and hope that it will bring me luck in my travels. I shall meditate on the history that you have shared with me. I have felt a strange pull when I gaze into the ring, but have only had hazy visions of what this might mean." Suddenly, Ili looks at me and jumps up onto the dusty shelf behind me. An ancient-looking book dislodges and falls to the floor. I do not recognize the symbols scrawled upon the leather binding. "Uncle, do you know this book?" I lean down and pick it up to hold it closer to the fire's light.
Aug 9, 2020 9:05 pm
A Pocket Monkey! How darling! Mischievous I'd say. He does know his Maztica history well though, but this is a dark one. The book tells the tale of hubris, common to most cultures where men believe in a god and then they turn on that god and think they are the god's better. Such is the tale of the First Man of Maztica. Kukul the Sun God tried to create playthings to enjoy his creations. First he created mud men but they melted away in Azul's rains. Then he made durable men of gold, but they were heartless and forgot about the gods. Then he cut off his fingers and made man, and men prospered. The First Man worshiped Zaltec and made great sacrifices to the God of War, the Eater of Hearts. But then the First Man turned and asked his growing city to sacrifice and worship him instead. Zaltec was angry and smote the First Man on the temple steps. Tesca the Fire God burned the city, and the people wailed and prayed to Azul the Rain God, who put out the fires. The people celebrated until they were flooded. They prayed to Plutoz the Stone God, but he caused the city and all its water to fall deep underground. Meanwhile, the Obsidian Butterfly, who was a rejected lover of Kukul, came for revenge and raised from the dead, the First Man. From that day forth, he hungered for blood as well as hearts. He is Camazotz, the First Man turned into the First Vampire.

Are not the stories of Maztica fascinating? Aren't they dark?"
He pauses and whispers, "Have you felt it, too? The world growing darker?"
Aug 9, 2020 9:43 pm
"Yes, the old stories are fascinating, Uncle! I have indeed felt the darkness spreading, and I feel called to pursue more of the Druidic arts upon my journey. In your adventures, did you come across any particular animals or monstrosities in this area that I should be wary of? Any battle stories to share with your niece?"
Aug 9, 2020 10:45 pm
"Do not venture into the jungles just north of here. They guard the secrets of an otherworldly civilization that hunt the mind flayers. The Tabaxi and Green Folk war over the remaining parts of the jungle that they can survive in. But do not worry about these, go up to my aviary in the morning and someone will take you to the docks just west of that jungle. A ship will arrive that has never appeared on our ocean. Plead for passage. Tell them you have magic, and then speak to no one. Pirates are not to be trusted. That will take you to water fountain of Baya where you will see for yourself the map of the true location of the First Man. That should satisfy your curiosity."
Aug 9, 2020 10:50 pm
He looks up at the great tube of mirrors and lenses looking up through a skylight hatch, that comprise his eye on the Great Skyhome. "I have seen great events approaching. Do as I say. But tell me. Have you discovered anymore about the birthmark chevron on your forehead?
Aug 10, 2020 5:29 pm
"I rested well last night, Uncle. Thank you for lodging me. I will be on my way to seek passage aboard this mysterious ship. Hopefully, Time will want to accompany me. My research regarding the birthmark has been difficult, but I have come across some accounts of an ancient ancestor who also had such a mark upon her. Some speculated that the mark was a sign she was destined to battle the darkness on behalf of Kukul. Some said it bestowed additional powers of foresight."
Aug 11, 2020 1:09 pm
"Good morning child. I am glad you can sleep in this house haunted with memories. The birthmark will certainly make you stand out in Maztica. It may be true that it marks powers of divination. Perhaps you can try it. Use the signet ring as your focus. Here. Sit. I will make breakfast. The solarium is bright and welcoming and will protect you from the spirits that you may draw out of the Great Pyramid.

I have been following the ship and it has broken free of its original path. It lies in great peril. A newly incarnated god now travels on it, to fend off a threat of darkness, a vampire and her thralls. It is a ship divided. The vampire controls half. The god the other. The vampire has taken the ship into caves of wonder where live a green folk, elves who have transformed themselves into bats to worship the ancient bat gods. The green folk ward a talisman of ancient knowledge. The vampire seeks to use it for evil and extorts the god to take half the crew to retrieve it. The god has been told by Uhti to safe guard it instead. In the village, there could be much blood shed. The ship could be lost, or worse, the vampire may acquire the talisman. The god has a paladin and a wind mage to help in addition to the other half of crew, though more importantly, the god is being awakened into other powers. I cannot see past the god's decisions. Maybe you can."
He leave you for the kitchen.
Aug 12, 2020 1:56 am
"ah there you still sit. Did it come to you in visions, in a dream walk, or other plan experience? Tell me of your divinations. I can see on your face that you have that aasimar trait of only seeing people’s tiloni and the events of the outer planes. Tell me. Do tell. Will they make it and please tell me how. I love a good story. "he serves the bitter coffee and offers you sugar and corn bread muffins to ply the visions from you.
Aug 12, 2020 3:36 am
"Uncle, this strong coffee has helped me focus on the vision. I see that the elves who have transformed into bats are an ancient people. They are a people who value their freedom and that of others. I see that they have had dealings with a vampire long ago who betrayed them and slaughtered many of their people, and turned some of them to evil ways as well. The bat elves have spies throughout the cave and have seen the evil intent of the vampire on board the ship. Though the bats value the talisman, they also do not desire to war with another vampire. The god and his crew are very torn in what to do. They approach the bats quietly, but then hear a voice calling to them from above. One of the bat leaders transforms back into his elven shape and holds out a peace offering to the god, the paladin, and the wind mage. He offers them a drink of his special tea. As they each take a turn drinking, the elf is able to ascertain their true intentions from the change the tea brings to their auras. The elf determines that the paladin is the most noble and good-hearted in their group. He warns the group that the elf numbers are great and that they have many years of experience battling. An attack would be unwise, he advises. He bows in farewell, before changing back into his bat form in a cloud of green mist. The paladin notices that a small, worn bag has fallen, seemingly by accident, from the elf's person and rolled over near his feet. He bends over to retrieve it." "I am sorry Uncle, but my vision has clouded."
Aug 12, 2020 12:48 pm
"Not at all! For your first divination, you did a most excellent job! Such detail. How ever do you do it? You will have to tell me how the story actually unfolds when you learn, yes? Here," he hands you a pebble and shows one just like it in his hand. This is an agate that the Tumqua magic casters use and you can use it to send me a message. It will take a little of your energy but you should be able to send another message after each long rest if you like. I'd love to hear from you. Standard charges may apply. Not valid for any other rock. 25 word limit and the receiver can answer in a similar 25 words within one hour of receipt of said original message. Non transferable to any other person.

Let me help you with your pack to the mountain trail. You have your monkey yes? I've packed some food, mostly baked goods. Don't let the monkey eat them all. There will be plenty of fruit along the way. Don't stand out in the rain too much. Remember to write. Don't talk to pirates. Good luck! he jabbers as he pushes you out the back door. The trail leads up. Its a beautiful day!

After a strenuous climb, you come to a roost where you see giant eagles, huge, with 20 foot wing spans.
Aug 12, 2020 8:21 pm
What lovely eagles. I wonder if they could be persuaded to help me on my journey. I cast Animal Friendship on the nearest eagle who is looking my direction. Will he give me a ride?
Aug 13, 2020 12:44 am
The eagle looks at you and recognizes the verbal components. It screeches. You roll for initiative to see Who reacts first.

Rolls

Ante init - (1D20+1)

(19) + 1 = 20

Eagle init - (1D20+2)

(16) + 2 = 18

Aug 13, 2020 12:46 am
You get the spell off first and befriend the beast. Your follow up persuasion check is at advantage because of the charm.

Rolls

Persuation - (1D20+4)

(17) + 4 = 21

Persuation adv - (1D20+4)

(9) + 4 = 13

Aug 13, 2020 12:46 am
The 21 wins. The eagle bows down and nods to the rock outcrop next to her lowered neck.
Aug 13, 2020 1:28 am
As you mount the eagle you realize it is but muscle covered in downy and white feathers. You sink into what you thought was his neck. You are comfortable and need only an easy hold on the feathers to stay aloft with the bird when his great wings lift both of you and you climb and then soar over the mountain.

He looks back as if in question. He screeches softly. You do not understand him in the great wind but you know what he wants. "Where do you go little one?"
Aug 13, 2020 1:33 am
I climb atop the outcrop and heave myself onto the mighty eagle's neck. Ili is a bit nervous, but the view is lovely. I request the eagle to provide us with transport to the fountain of Baya, or as close as she can get us. "Also, please stay clear of pirates," I add wistfully.
Aug 13, 2020 1:43 am
The eagle takes off with you astride him. He sings his high pitch whine and the clouds break free for him and he lifts up through the low clouds until you can see nothing but clouds ten feet below you and 10,000 miles around. He turns his head, his penetrating eyes see something and he dives through the clouds once more. You are over the coast now. The eagle turns its head slightly and cries for you to look. There is a downed giant eagle on the ground bleeding with wolves threatening.
Aug 13, 2020 1:49 am
I signal for the eagle to land in a tall, sturdy tree near the wounded eagle. I cast Thorn Whip toward the largest wolf in range, hoping to scare off the pack. I cast cure wounds on the eagle.
Aug 13, 2020 3:42 am
The range on thorn whip I believe is 10 feet. The range on cure wounds is touch. Care to get closer?
Aug 13, 2020 11:05 am
As you look from the tree perch, you notice sled tracks and the evidence of beasts of burden who have made a single file down the middle of this clearing. The eagle is wounded on the wing and has a rope tied around her talons and secured to a boulder. Nearby is a small clump of shrubs. It’s obviously a trap.
Aug 13, 2020 9:27 pm
Hmm. . . New plan. It may be somewhat reckless, but I decide to land close to the wounded eagle, and use entangle to put up a perimeter around us. I will try to cut the rope holding the eagle to the boulder with my dagger and hop back onto the friendly eagle's back before we are set upon by whatever villains orchestrated this trap. If luck is on our side, the eagle can get us back to a safe distance to regroup before we are attacked.
Aug 14, 2020 9:23 am
OOC:
My apologies, thorn whip range is 30'
As you land near the wounded and bond eagle, the area in a 25' square centered on the downed eagle grows vines and weeds. You direct the vines not to entangle yourself or the eagles. The wolves appear to be instead 3 hunting dogs and they rush to attack. It will take their normal speed to get to the entanglement and there they will be slowed to half speed in their dash toward you. So they end their turn in the weeds., not reaching you while you are trying to cut the rope with your dagger.

Rolls

dagger damage to rope - (1d4+1)

(1) + 1 = 2

Aug 14, 2020 9:25 am
You fail to cut all the way through and the dogs attack. Your eagle returns the favor.

Rolls

Ante init - (1d20+1)

(15) + 1 = 16

eagle init - (1d20+3)

(20) + 3 = 23

dogs - (1d20)

(4) = 4

Aug 14, 2020 9:27 am
Your eagle claws and bites at one dog and kills it instantly. The wounded eagle can only bite but make one dog whelp. The shrubs near you throws off a bough revealing two pirate and a ballista with a bolt equipped with a net. What do you do?
Aug 14, 2020 9:32 am
LawRubia says:
Hmm. . . New plan. It may be somewhat reckless,
OOC:
I like somewhat reckless. A hero's motto, lol
Aug 14, 2020 4:50 pm
I cast Thorn Whip in an attempt to pull the ballista out of their range and/or damage the net. I also load a crossbow bolt and aim for the pirate nearest the ballista. Praying that the gods and winds are on our side.
Aug 14, 2020 5:46 pm
OOC:
That's two turns. Do you wish to tell me to do 2 turns and run the narative, or change your mind on the second turn. We will play it by ear.
Aug 14, 2020 5:48 pm
You shoot a thorny vine out from your hands to attack the ballista

Rolls

thorn whip - (1d20+4)

(6) + 4 = 10

Aug 14, 2020 6:05 pm
It strikes the weapon and hauls it out of the blind toward you for 10 feet. The two dogs attack at your heels. They are trained well.

Rolls

first dog - (1d20+3)

(5) + 3 = 8

and the second - (1d20+3)

(3) + 3 = 6

Aug 14, 2020 6:08 pm
The dogs miss and get thrown into the beaks and talons of the two eagles. One dies and the other gets hurt and runs provoked a reactionay attack by the eagles which finish off the predators.

The two pirates are unable to fire the balista without it being aimed wild by the thorn whip, so they pick up their armed and ready crossbows and shoot at you.

Rolls

first pirate - (1d20+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

second - (1d20+1)

(9) + 1 = 10

Aug 14, 2020 6:09 pm
The bolts miss! You are still unharmed miraculously. What now?
Aug 14, 2020 6:10 pm
You shoot back of course

Rolls

crossbow - (1d20+1)

(4) + 1 = 5

Aug 14, 2020 6:12 pm
and miss!. Nobody gets target points today... Your eagle flies up and launches itself at the two pirates, cutting their shoulders and heads. The pirates aim and fire again at the eagle attacking them.
Aug 14, 2020 6:12 pm
and miss!. Nobody gets target points today... Your eagle flies up and launches itself at the two pirates, cutting their shoulders and heads. The pirates aim and fire again at the eagle attacking them.
Aug 14, 2020 6:13 pm
their shots...

Rolls

first pirate - (1d20+3)

(20) + 3 = 23

second - (1d20+3)

(10) + 3 = 13

Aug 14, 2020 6:13 pm
... hit the eagle and it screams in pain from two bolts to its chest. You turn.
Aug 14, 2020 7:03 pm
Excellent! Ili slides out of my pocket and begins to chew through the rope that I failed to cut. The eagle and I decide to take to the skies in hopes of a better tactical advantage.
Aug 14, 2020 7:16 pm
The eagle is in melee (hand to talon) range of pirates. If it leaves to try to fly, it will provoke an opportunity attack by pirates. You are further back, unless you try to mount eagle and then the same thing applies to you.
Aug 14, 2020 7:19 pm
Ili will take two round to chew the rope
Aug 14, 2020 9:25 pm
Sorry, I somehow missed your last two responses before I made mine. Oops!
Aug 14, 2020 9:28 pm
I cast Entangle in a line toward the pirates, to attack or distract them, and then prepare to launch another bolt from my crossbow.
Aug 14, 2020 11:53 pm
Casting your spell in front of you, the vines still come up in a 20 foot square area right under the pirates.

Rolls

STR saves against being restrained by vines - (1D20, 1d20)

1D20 : (20) = 20

1d20 : (16) = 16

Aug 14, 2020 11:58 pm
They both saved against your spell DC of 12. They are in difficult terrain to get out. You notice that the previous patch of vines that you were concentrating on but stopped to concentrate on the new spell, has disappeared.

The pirates are still faced with the giant eagle so they fire.

Rolls

Pirates Crossbow attack - (1D20+1, 1D20+1)

1D20+1 : (14) + 1 = 15

1D20+1 : (9) + 1 = 10

Aug 15, 2020 12:00 am
One more bolt hit eagle. He screams and claws the pirates. And they fall unconscious.

The monkey has freed the grounded eagle. Both eagles are too hurt to fly.
What do you do?
Aug 15, 2020 1:14 am
I run over to the eagle with bolt wounds and cast cure wounds on her. Ili scampers over to check the pirates for valuables. I will use my next turn to snare the pirates in their ballista net.
Aug 15, 2020 2:56 pm
You are out of initiative and so at your own pace you may do all these things. However, as you try to call upon nature’s spirit to cast healing power onto the eagle, your power fails you. Then you remember you have already cast entangle twice and maybe you didn’t actually cast animal friendship because he was already friendly. You have never before cast more than two spells in a day. But you try again, concentrating very hard. Your heart goes out to the eagle, his eyes filled with pain. You apologize to his great spirit that you can do no more, your own heart breaking with the suffering of this innocent animal. Then it happens. You achieve a new level as a Druid. With it comes another spell slot and the cure wounds spell sends healing power through your hands into the giant eagle, curing him completely of his wounds. With that your power is spent again. The pirates are lifted of 6 jewels, a small painted portrait of a pretty girl, a vial of silvery fluid, some hard tack and a sea shell with a rune on it. You bind them and feed Ili some of the hard tack. The other eagle is loose but still it’s wing is injured.

Please level up to 2 and update your character sheet on gamersplane
Aug 15, 2020 8:01 pm
I updated my character sheet (I think correctly). Now I need to roll for level 2 HP.

Rolls

HP Increase (Constitution) - (1d8+1)

(5) + 1 = 6

Aug 15, 2020 8:03 pm

I am about to pull everything together. What do you do now?
Aug 15, 2020 11:13 pm
The injured eagle cries out and you’d goes by it and looks back at you. He screeches.
Aug 15, 2020 11:36 pm
The eagles are staying together for protection which leaves you on foot. You know the map well enough to know to go to the shore and follow it north
Aug 15, 2020 11:37 pm
Have I recharged enough to do Wild Shape?
Aug 15, 2020 11:38 pm
After a couple of hours you see what look to be seamen coming ashore in long canoes From a sailing ship anchored off shore. Led by a handsome young man in chain mail, there are four others with long bows, swords and baskets and large empty waterskins. What do you do?
Aug 15, 2020 11:38 pm
No wild shape until you have had a long rest
Aug 15, 2020 11:44 pm
"Good afternoon, kind Sir," I call to the handsome leader, smiling and batting my eyes to add to my charm. "You look to be on a long journey. Have you come ashore seeking supplies? I can show you some marvelous fruit trees just over the ridge. And the hunting is good here as well. Can I be of assistance?"
Aug 15, 2020 11:46 pm
"and evening to you. We are new to this ocean just now and know not the land. Is there a village near that we can barter trade goods for food. We have not seen day or night for a week. "
Aug 15, 2020 11:51 pm
"Why yes, sir. Just up the coast is a town called Baya. I have been journeying there myself. If you would prefer to bartering to hunting and gathering here, I would be happy to lead you north toward town. May I ask, where you are heading after you get food?"
Aug 15, 2020 11:51 pm
"If you don’t mind asking. You look foreign to these parts. Are you from a village here or are you traveling? To where?" He puts his hand on the hilt of his long sword in suspicion.
Aug 15, 2020 11:52 pm
Baya as well. He relaxes. You travel on foot? It is but a day by sail?
Aug 15, 2020 11:54 pm
he is staring at your birthmark. He looks suspicious of any magic.
Aug 15, 2020 11:58 pm
"Sir, I am the daughter of a noble from a village south of here. I had been travelling on foot because I wished to stop and visit my uncle on my way to Baya. My family, of course, has fine carriages and horses I could have taken, but the climb is a bit treacherous for beasts and carriages in this mountainous region to the south."
Aug 15, 2020 11:59 pm
"Please do not think me presumptuous, Sir, but what brings you to Baya? From where do you hail?"
Aug 15, 2020 11:59 pm
"You seem to take care of yourself, but if should need a ride, we have a private bunk come available. These lands are not safe. "
Aug 16, 2020 12:01 am
"Far Payit. Maxal. East of here. Come talk to our captain while we hunt. She would be entertained to see our first westerner. "
Aug 16, 2020 12:03 am
"I would be happy to come aboard and join your party."
Aug 16, 2020 12:05 am
"Pray tell, how did the bunk become available? Have you lost a member of your party? And what is your captain's name, sir? Perhaps I have heard of her."
Aug 16, 2020 12:06 am
He helps you aboard the canoe and has one of the seaman take you to the anchored ship. It is more different than you have ever seen. Once up on deck you see the captain at her wheel and are escorted to her.
Aug 16, 2020 12:07 am
"Good evening, Captain. I am Antethoe, a noble woman from just south of here. What brings you to these lands?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:08 am
Greetings traveler. I’m Captain Kitsune and who might you be?
Aug 16, 2020 12:14 am
Welcome aboard our ship Antethoe, it's a pleasure to meet you! Feel free to make yourself at home or join in the crew if you like to get your hands dirty. We're currently sailing to Baya, but if you need to be let off before there, we can accommodate that.I
Aug 16, 2020 12:16 am
"I am also heading to Baya, Captain Kitsune. Thank you for the passage. Have you had interesting travels thus far?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:18 am
We have trade goods from Payit, lumber and nutmeg We are hoping to open up a new trade route.
Aug 16, 2020 12:20 am
"Interesting. I think I will go put my things in my bunk, if you will have someone show me the way."
Aug 16, 2020 12:22 am
Captain laughs awkwardly for a moment. "Interesting is a good word for it. Any travels that include fighting a vampire and becoming captain of her pirate ship would be interesting.
Aug 16, 2020 12:24 am
"Aye Cap’n. You need me? Who this?" Says a halfling in wild jungle garb and a scimitar the length of his body.
Aug 16, 2020 12:24 am
"Here, I'll have Poca here escort you to the empty cabin. It's just below mine. It's a bit small but should be cozy."
Aug 16, 2020 12:26 am
"you call me Poca like everyone else unless you like Maztica names?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:28 am
The halfling leads down below and past the Kitchen where stone pots cook the food themselves. There is a hatch he opens and a small bunk inside with a chest at bottom for storage. Panes of glass let in the rising dusk sunset.
Aug 16, 2020 12:29 am
"Well, I am used to the finer things in life, but I suppose cozy will be acceptable until we get to Baya."

"I do like Maztica names, friend. What name do you prefer to be called?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:30 am
You can’t tell what is truth and what is a lie.
Aug 16, 2020 12:31 am
Teopocatli, he says, beaming at having his whole name asked for. He patiently tells you how to pronounce the last three letter as one sound
Aug 16, 2020 12:34 am
I settle my things into place in the chest and turn to ask Poca about the enchanted pots. "Teopocatli, I noticed your enchanted pots. Are you familiar with the ways of magic?"

"I the wind mage. I bring up Eha and shape Azul. You magic too What circle?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:35 am
"Pots stone. That’s Tumqua magic. Plutoq’s gift of fire and stone. "
Aug 16, 2020 12:35 am
"I am in the Circle of the Moon. How nice to have other magic types about."
Aug 16, 2020 12:41 am
He stares at you. "Moon? What god give moon?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:42 am
I pull out my agate that my uncle Aapo gave to me. "I have an item of Tumqua magic as well, Teopocatli. I think I will send my uncle a message." I describe the seashell and the rune upon it and ask Aapo if he knows what it may be for.
Aug 16, 2020 12:44 am
"I like you. I can make shoo bigger. Make bunk bigger. Wood warp under Yahca magic. Whole ship change at my word. I master of ship. "
Aug 16, 2020 12:47 am
"You meld Tumqua!!! Yes send message I watch. "he looks at the seashell and hand it back immediately. "That glyph in Nahuatl. Mean God glyph. Azul, god of rain. "
Aug 16, 2020 12:47 am
"Thank you, friend. How kind! Sorry about my druidic slang. I come from the region of Lopango. See my signet ring? My magic comes from Qotal."
Aug 16, 2020 12:48 am
"Many thanks for the information, Teopocatli! Are you familiar with Azul. I believe you mentioned him earlier."
Aug 16, 2020 12:50 am
"I have drained my strength in battle today. I believe I will benefit from a good rest. Thank you for your help. I will be safe if I lay down for a rest, yes?"
Aug 16, 2020 12:52 am
Now he really stares at you. "Azul god of rain. Brother to Plutoq of Stone, and Zaltec, god of war and eater of hearts. There Qotal of peace and Kiltzi love and Eha Air, Watil and Nulu of animal and plant and Coatlicue of Death. "
Aug 16, 2020 12:53 am
""you close hatch. You rest. We dock at Baya still night. Go shore at high tide. Leave next morning.
Aug 16, 2020 5:07 pm
It was a bit hard to sleep having never been on a sailing ship before. It seemed there was a noise for everything. The bells constantly sounded and rung in the time and rhythm of watches. The dinner was a rousing affair of drunken pirates singing and joking, followed by the obvious sounds of sex and laughter. It all but rattled your royal sensibilities, yet they seemed like happy folk celebrating some victory.

Rested enough, you awake to hear the signals and calls from off ship. You gather your things and go on deck to see the First Mate Dukalu and Ship Master Poca with oil lamps making signals to a lighthouse which answer in similar semaphores in the dark early hours. The lights of a town lie beyond.
Aug 16, 2020 6:14 pm
Despite my meager attempts to rest, I am eager to go into Baya and explore the city in search of the map for the resting place of Camazotz. I gather my weapons, the 6 jewels I lifted from the pirates, and Ili, and ready myself to go into town.
Aug 16, 2020 7:13 pm
As ship approach the city, the First Mate sees you on deck and brings you an oil lamp. "The harbormaster has never seen the likes of this ship and knows us not. But we managed to persuade him to harbor us. Apparently, someone is shopping for just our cargo of Ipe wood to build a new town in the desert, the House of Tesca. A caravan is in town from the desert and the person in charge wants to meet with us directly at the fountain. Funny enough, we have traveling to get to that fountain for days now.

I hope you got some rest last night. We were all a bit loud. The ship is celebrating a mutiny."
He laughs but looks sideways at you trying to gauge your reaction. It is all too apparent that he is with no navy and didn't appear to be a stodgy merchant either. He is dressed again in chain, sword and shield. It's not the usual attire for business negotiations.
Aug 16, 2020 7:56 pm
"You are clearly very persuasive. . . what did you say your name was? The House of Tesca in the desert? It seems risky to build a temple for the fire god in an area with so little water. What do you know of this leader?"
Aug 16, 2020 9:01 pm
He laughs heartedly at your joke, though maybe you did not realize you made one? "My name is Dukalu, from the house of Qotal and of Kiltzi, and I am a Fox Knight, a Paladin you would say, to Kiltzi, and husband to the Captain. That is how you say your lineage in Lopango, is it not? I have studied in the temples enough to have heard of your ways. I tell you this, because, for a foreigner, you seem to know quite a bit about our gods. Yes, Tesca is the god of fire, but I doubt that refugees from Nexal who worship Zaltec would be building a temple to Tesca. I do not know this leader at all. We were going to the fountain on other business. What exactly is yours?"
Aug 16, 2020 9:40 pm
"Nice to meet you, Dukalu, from the house of Qotal and of Kiltzi. I know a bit, though I am still learning. My uncle has told me some of the old stories of the ancient gods. Your dress indicates you will be ready for battle, if that becomes necessary. I, myself, always like to be prepared as well. Are you familiar with the druidic ways, Dukalu? I get a good feeling about you, though I do not know much of the Fox Knights. I am seeking the location of an ancient relic here in Baya. You did not say what your business was exactly. But someone who has fought a vampire and helped in a mutiny is either one who finds trouble or one who is destined to battle forces of darkness. Which are you, Dukalu?"
Aug 16, 2020 10:01 pm
"Maybe a little of both. Maybe a little of both." he muses. "Let us speak of relics and quests another time. We have not time enough. The sun strikes the horizon soon. I see you are prepared to go. After you?" He gestures to the ladder and two canoes below. The Captain is in one.
Aug 16, 2020 10:02 pm
"Take the lady to shore, love. I will take the other canoe." He nods, helps you get into the empty canie and before pushing off, he leans over to give the Captain a kiss. You depart toward shore.
Aug 16, 2020 10:25 pm
The town of Baya makes a pretty skyline in the distance. I think to myself that I should check out some of the merchants during my visit, if I have time.
Aug 16, 2020 10:43 pm
"It does look lovely. I’ve never been to the western side of Maztica. We have found a route and wind mage who can manage to the trip straight through without going to the capes. I look forward to seeing Baya myself. "
Aug 16, 2020 11:09 pm
Dukalu stretches his powerful muscles out and oars quickly to the dock. Politely, he helps you out onto the dock. "I'll stay and wait for my wife. Do you know where to go in this town?"
Aug 17, 2020 2:25 am
"I am not overly familiar with the town, but I am certain I can find my way around. I think I will go with your group to the fountain to see the people you are meeting. They might cause trouble, and I do enjoy the occasional bout with trouble."
Aug 17, 2020 2:33 am
You go with Dukalu and Captain Kitsune into the city. It is still easy enough to find the central square in the dark before dawn, even if it by hearing the play of water where an aqueduct drops ice melt mountain water into various cascading basins.

As you reach the end of the street that empties into the square, you hear the sounds of hoops and howlers, as well as the clank of metal, and the sound of a very young girl crying in fear. Getting to the edge of the dim lit square, torches on the perimeter and the growing dawn approaching, your eyes confirm what you have heard. Five soldiers in plate mail and drawn long swords are pushing around a girl of perhaps 10 years old, who is carrying on her head a large pottery that she has filled at the fountain, the water spilling as she moves back and forth to avoid the men's swords set out to trip her in jest. You hear one of the men yell out in broken Maztica common, "Dance for us squaw!" You can see no one else is in the square and all the shop doors are closed. They are 80 feet from you and are at the center of the square.
Aug 17, 2020 3:18 am
"Help, help! Excuse me, fine soldiers! I had just come into town when I came across a man who had been attacked. He looks old and weak, yet he wears fine clothes and nice jewelry. He needs help immediately. Please come!" I put on all of the charm I can muster, to trick the soldiers into drawing away from the little girl. "Come, just around the corner, sirs."

Azull glyph on a sea shell
Aug 28, 2020 1:06 pm
In the murky depths of the the basin, you see a fine point of light. As you look closer, it is you, shining your aasinar heart as a ring of light amidst a sea of time and space. Ahead of you lies a troubled land full of shadow. Ancient evil inhabits Maztica. The First Man roams the battle scarred landscape and seeks the poor and weak who cannot resist him. Mothers left unprotected with their kin and husbands dead or lost in battle and strife, struggle with childbirth and loose their tiloni to Coatlicue's protection in the world beyond. But before they can be laid to rest, the First Man pounces and seizes their tiloni, their sacred souls, and takes them back to his hidden temple, there to make wives and mothers to his festering fold of undead. You call upon the old gods and they hear and aid. The battle is set, and you are the general laying your lines and drawing no quarter. A cosmological war has been waged and you gather your allies. With animal spirit, divination and all the glyphs of the gods arrayed about you, you are armored in a ring of protection. Your ring is your weapon. This is your fight. You see yourself marshal all the forces of light in one mighty blow that shatters the image in the basin and all is murky again.
Sep 6, 2020 11:02 pm
You wake from your sleep with a terrible dream. You feel the presence of the First Man in your near future. He wants another tiloni to use for his wife and he will use the war in Nexal to take it. The darkness spreads to Nexal even to the mothers who die in childbirth.
