OOC:
No worries. Nothing like an encased eyeball. We have a replacement at least when someone loses an eye.
Aug 13, 2020 3:24 pm
"Huh, eye wonder what that could be" The gnome says sarcastically, with a small grin and a wink. "Do ya think someone, or something, might be watchin’ through that at the other end? Like a scry eye or something?"

Skallagrimm asks "do we take the risk and keep it? Or just bury it here and let the nosey bastard look at dirt?"
Aug 13, 2020 4:45 pm
The gith shrugs and says, "Could be a memento. Let him stare if indeed it can see. I do not fear the bone-man."
Aug 13, 2020 5:15 pm
"you think I'm scared lizard breath?" Skallagrim growls at the Gith. "here's something ya can both feast yer eyes on" and he makes an obscene gesture toward the gem.

he's trying to get a reaction out of the eyeball if possible

"Be glad I do not bear the breath of the duthka'gith," answered Kar'i'nas as he continued down the road. He kept his eyes focused on the treeline on either side of the path should any other strange beings come trailing the lifeless knight.
OOC:
I don't mind retconning things, Skallagrimm, though Kar'i'nas stowed the gem in a pouch.

Morticia is glad that someone else is carrying the encased eyeball. It seems more than a little weird. Where do the tracks lead us?
OOC:
what did you learn when you cast detect magic? I didn't see a response to that.

OOC:
Optimumsquare, no one cast the spell. The gith doesn’t have the spell. Anyone who does feel free to indicate you want to inspect the eyeball 👁
Aug 14, 2020 7:41 am
OOC:
If anyone has it stocked you can cast it as you move along.
As you move along further and further into the forest, the sparse daylight seems to vanish and is replaced with nothing but pitch darkness as night time falls. A creeping fog covers the ground and intermittently you hear howls far off in the distance. Suddenly you notice something else. You notice the scent of death in the air.
Aug 14, 2020 7:50 am
OOC:
what does death smell like? Patchouli?
Morticia's hand goes back to her sword. Seems like she just took it off there. What does she see/smell/hear

OOC:
Decomposition basically :)
Morticia, It's not terribly difficult for you to find the source of the smell. The foul scent leads you to a human corpse half-buried in the underbrush about fifteen feet from the road. The young man appears to be a commoner. His muddy clothes are torn and raked with claw marks. Crows have been at the body, which is surrounded by paw prints. The man has obviously been dead for several days. He holds a crumpled envelope in one hand.

Skip reaches forward to tease the envelope out of the dead hand. He tries not to disturb the surrounding marks, but does also check through the dead mans pockets
OOC:
Rolling for sleight I’d hand to get the envelope and anything else on the body

Skip, he has nothing in his pockets but you take the envelope. It's been sealed with red wax with a large "B" set in it and inside is a letter.

Letter

When night falls, the Gith produces a torch and lights it. He moves to inspect the dead and the area around it for dangers.
OOC:
Inspecting the dead to ensure it is not undead, as well as the area around it for signs of where its killer went.

Rolls

Investigation - (1d20+3)

(16) + 3 = 19

Skip reads the letter, and then passes it around for everyone else to read.
"It’s written by the same hand as the previous letter, but this one seems more final, like this Kolyan has already given up. Who’s got the other letter?"
OOC:
Skip wants to compare both letters, to see if there is an indication of how long it is between each letter being written, dates etc
"Anyone else know what a vampy is?"

Skip, you look a the two letters and it quickly becomes apparent to you that they haven't been written by the same person. The letter you received at the tavern describes Ireena as "the love of my life" while the second letter claims that she is the daughter of the Burgomaster. It is a very good forgery though as the handwriting is virtually identical. There are no indicators as to how long ago the two letters were written but the look of the paper would indicate that they're both fairly recent. The body is as mentioned at least a few days old, so the letters are probably not much older than that.

Balian stands there as they examine the letters. It would seem that our little journey just got a bit more interesting. Two similar letters, yet are from two different points of view. The father or the lover... I'm guessing we'll find answers at our final destination.

"If I had to guess the dark of it, this slave suffers a vampire as his lord. We can plunder this land with his permission. This forger lures others to the vampire—thrall work."
