Galdr says:
When night falls, the Gith produces a torch and lights it. He moves to inspect the dead and the area around it for dangers.
OOC:
Inspecting the dead to ensure it is not undead, as well as the area around it for signs of where its killer went.
OOC:
Investigation roll in the original post.

"Vampire? Thrall? Anyone care to fill me in?"
Aug 14, 2020 5:29 pm
Morticia reads the letter and becomes very quiet. Occasionally she mouths a few words "Give us up for dead," "holy men," "the devil may be contained." She unconsciously rubs her horn, a nervous tick that other holy men never managed to beat out of her. Those holy men told her to hide herself from the world. That it was not the place of devil spawn to carry out the work of good gods. She looks around, and sees no holy men.

"Two letters, one to warn us away, one to invite us in. And the messenger bearing the letter to warn us away..." Morticia trails off and looks down at the body.

"Ever get the feeling your walkin’ into a trap?" skips eyes dart about nervously

"It matters not. I have sworn an oath to destroy all undead. But more than that, I have a personal reason for wanting to face this... vampire. I will help these people. The rest of you can accompany me or not, though I must say that I'd be glad for your company. It is a fool's errand to face such dangers alone."

Inspecting the dead body, Skip thinks there may be some familiarity to the patterns of the wounds. A memory tickles at the back of his mind, a dark night, his mother.
OOC:
i want to make a roll to see if the the wounds on the dead man are similar to the wounds on the dead of his village from so long ago

Rolls

Investigation of dead body - (1d20+3)

(8) + 3 = 11

Perception to see if wounds match his memories - (1d20+2)

(20) + 2 = 22

Kar'i'nas remarked after reading the letter, "Trap, indeed. The thrall lured us to join this sod in feeding the undead. I suspect you shall find the way sealed or warded if you seek to return to the portal we entered. Let us behead this berk to ensure he cannot rise to serve this lord later."

Agreed, let us keep moving on the path ahead of us. It seems someone wants to toy with us. I say we look into turning the tables on them. Balian adds as the group.makes their plans.
Aug 15, 2020 1:51 pm
Skallagrim moves along the path, keeping an eye out for wild garlic, or branches that would make good stakes.
"an infernal bloodsucker about eh? Takes some pressure off you then?" he says to Morticia, as he passes the teifling.
Aug 15, 2020 4:45 pm
Skip throws a knife between Skallagrims legs, "Learn some manners old man, I’d rather have a tiefling at my side than you at my back"
Aug 15, 2020 4:57 pm
Skallagrim smiles as he picks up the knife. "I have no bad blood with gnomes. But if you want this back, you'll have to take it."
He slides it into his belt, and keeps walking.
Aug 15, 2020 5:19 pm
Morticia looks away at Skallagrims comment and mumbles something that could have been "yes sir" but with her head bowed, its impossible to say. When Skip speaks up in her defense, she pauses in the road to gape at him in surprise. No one has ever done that before.
Aug 15, 2020 5:32 pm
Skip pulls his hood up, clings to the shadows and quietly approaches Skallagrim, determined to get his knife back
OOC:
rolling for stealth (I rolled earlier but Skip has interacted with the party so I’m assuming he will need a new stealth check), and then rolling for sleight if hand to get back his knife if both stealth and sleight are successful

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+7)

(4) + 7 = 11

Sleight of hand - (1d20+5)

(3) + 5 = 8

Aug 15, 2020 7:09 pm
Seeing the situation escalate morticia speaks up. "Hey hey hey now. Let's not fight. Please, may I have the knife?"
Aug 15, 2020 8:38 pm
Balian turns around and watches the exchange between Skip and Skallagrim. Shaking his head as Morticia speaks up, Balian moves and stands beside her. Don't listen to a word that comes out of his mouth. You have every right to be here. I'll gladly stand by you.

Galdr, this guy is not undead from what you can tell, just dead.

Skip, the wounds seems to be made by some kind of animal or more likely, animals.
OOC:
Skallgrimm, roll perception to see if you notice Skip
Aug 16, 2020 4:22 pm
Lunora waits impatiently, clearly ready to move on. She shifts from one foot to the other.

You walk back to the path. After a short while you finally come out on the other side of it and instead face an empty moor stretching out in front of you, only broken by the continuation of the dirt road. For another mile you encounter nothing, the chilly air starts to permeate your bones as you seek some kind of solace from all this desolation. Finally you spot what appear to be a tall building with a couple of smaller ones on either side and some kind of empty enclosure further away from it. As you get closer you can hear small sobbing cries coming from the space in between all the buildings. As you move past the first building you can easily see from the road, lit up by torches hanging from the building you would presume might be stables stands to children. The sobs are coming from a boy and he's being comforted by what could be his older sister. They haven't noticed you yet.

The gith walked with his dark hood drawn low. His skull-tipped staff tolled his steps with a staccato click on stray stones in the path. He scanned the buildings, familiar with the seemingly abandoned look of pillaged villages. Nor did the tears of children sound foreign.
OOC:
Insight about the disposition of the children, esp. if the context suggests why they weep. A perception check to scan the buildings to ensure they are indeed unoccupied.

Rolls

Insight - (1d20+3)

(2) + 3 = 5

Perception - (1d20+3)

(2) + 3 = 5

Skip, hood up and skulking in the shadows, flits from building to building, checking through the windows to see if there may be anything of interest, whether that be valuables, or bodies
