OOC:
There's no door to the basement on the outside, just the front door. I'm assuming that you're entering the house that way
A wrought-iron gate with hinges on one side and a lock on the other fills the archway of a stone portico. As you approach it and push it, it swings open with a rusty shriek. Oil lamps hang from the portico ceiling by chains, flanking a set of oaken doors that open into a grand foyer.

Hanging on the south wall of the foyer is a shield emblazoned with what looks like a coat-of-arms of a stylized golden windmill on a red field, flanked by framed portraits of stony-faced aristocrats. Mahogany-framed double doors set with panes of stained glass are placed at the far end of the foyer and as you open them you see that they lead into a main hall.

The hall runs the width of the house, with a black marble fireplace at one end and a sweeping, red marble staircase at the other. Mounted on the wall above the fireplace is a longsword with a windmill cameo worked into the hilt. The wood-paneled walls are ornately sculpted with images of vines, flowers, nymphs, and satyrs. The decorative paneling follows the staircase as it circles upward to the second floor.

As you enter the hall, the doors slam shut behind you.

Eyeing the long sword, Skip asks "anyone recognise that motif?" as he ghosts over towards it, hood up, treading silently, blade ready

"drool over the valuables later, we have work to do" Skallagrimm says, as he moves to secure the bottom of the staircase

"I think the children were bait upon a wyvern snare," muttered the Gith as the door sealed itself.

He glanced over the luxuries and remarked, "Slay the monsters, then pillage. Are the hall doors locked?"

However, as he said this, he exerted his will upon the longsword, seeking to draw it from the wall and bring it to him for inspection.
OOC:
Psionically cast Mage Hand, which has no components and is invisible (per the racial trait) to obtain and ferry the longsword to hover in front of Kar'i'nas.
Aug 18, 2020 2:16 pm
Skip grins at this display of magicka by Kar’i’nas. To Skallagrim he says "I ain’t drooling over it, I was askin’ ‘bout the coat of arms."
He then goes to inspect the doors to see if they are locked, and inspects the door next to where a Morticia is standing to see if that is locked too
Aug 18, 2020 3:35 pm
Kar’i’nas, the longsword comes easily off the wall and hovers in front of you. It looks like a perfectly good sword.

Skip, the doors leading back out to the foyer are locked, but the door by Morticia opens. This oak-paneled room looks like a hunter's den. Mounted above the fireplace is a stag's head, and positioned around the outskirts of the room are three stuffed wolves.

Two padded chairs draped in animal furs face the hearth, with an oak table between them supporting a cask of wine, two carved wooden goblets, a pipe rack, and a candelabrum. A chandelier hangs above a cloth-covered table surrounded by four chairs.

Two cabinets stand against the walls.

Skip goes to inspect the cabinets

Rolls

Investigating cabinets - (1d20+3)

Lunora moves to the middle of the room, bow at the ready for any trouble that may arise.
Aug 18, 2020 5:16 pm
The gith grasps the hilt with his offhand to test its balance before following the others.
OOC:
Take the sword in hand.
Aug 18, 2020 5:22 pm
Skallagrimm eyes the pipes. Picks up the nicest one, he's not sure where his pipe got to, and looks around for something to put in it.

Skip, the north cabinet is unlocked and holds a small box containing a deck of playing cards and an assortment of wine glasses. The cabinet to the east is locked
OOC:
The map btw reads: Top = East, Right = South, Bottom = West, Left = North
Kar’i’nas, you swing the sword through the air and test it. It feels like a perfectly good longsword
Aug 18, 2020 5:47 pm
"Hey, old man" growls Skip "now who’s lookin’ at pretty baubauls?". He then puts the box with playing cards into his pack for later examination - ’or maybe play a few hands with that fool old man and make a bit of coin’.
The gnome then moves to the locked cabinet in the east wall. And starts working at the lock
OOC:
Hmmmm I didn’t add my proficiency to that roll. I’ll try remember it for next time

Thieves tools check - (1d20+3)

(5) + 3 = 8

Aug 18, 2020 5:58 pm
The warrior maintains the weapon as he follows the others. He comments, "A slayer's house. Must have been a bigger threat that took the man and his mate."
Aug 18, 2020 5:59 pm
Skallagrimm doesn't hear the tiny gnome, he casually inspects the stuffed wolves.

Rolls

perception - (1d20+6)

(12) + 6 = 18

Aug 18, 2020 7:54 pm
Skip, you try to get the lock open but it doesn’t budge

Skallagrimm, the wolves are very big, bigger than any you’ve seen, but they otherwise look normal
Aug 18, 2020 8:01 pm
"Does anyone have a prybar or similar device that we could use to open the cabinet?"
Aug 18, 2020 8:07 pm
Kar'i'nas steps over to the cabinet. The gith rests his staff and sword against the wall near at hand and produces a crowbar from his pack. "Monsters can wait."

He then set the edge of the tool into the gap and levers it.

Skip has a crowbar in his pack
OOC:
Is skip allowed another chance at the lock?
Aug 18, 2020 8:34 pm
"I have a special lock-pick here" Skallagrim says brandishing his great axe"if you two can't open a piece of furniture"
Aug 18, 2020 10:04 pm
Skip steps back from the door with a flourish and a bow "By all means master huntsman" he quips with a grin, drawing his rapier and getting ready
