Morticia follows the party at a a distance to make Skallagrim feel safe. She does step forward to read the letter. "Souls sacrificed at an altar? This is no mere despot. This is something darker. And abandoned love?" She looks sadly at the possessed bodies of her two companions.

"Sounds like more than a warlord. This berk seems more cultish, perhaps fiendish. This sod's preferences are likely on these shelves. Any sign on the bones what killed the sod?"

The gith looks around the shelves and into the chest for any indications whom this man worshipped or anything of value he may have left behind.

Skip, you don't see any markings on the skeleton's belongings to determine who he is, but you do see three darts stuck in his armour and his ribcage that seems to have come from a trap in the chest. The chest contains three blank books with black leather covers, three spell scrolls (bless, protection from poison, and spiritual weapon), the deed to the house, the deed to a windmill, and a signed will. The windmill referred to in the second deed is situated in the mountains east of Vallaki. The will is signed by Gustav and Elisabeth Durst and bequeathes the house, the windmill, and all other family property to Rosavalda and Thornboldt Durst in the event of their parents' deaths.

Lunora, you feel your mind flood with information about Strahd. He's ruled Barovia as long as Rose can remember, her parents spoke about him with great admiration almost as if they regarded him as some sort of saviour. Rose also knows that he resides in a castle called Ravenloft not too far from the village of Barovia.

Kar'i'nas, the bookshelves are packed with tomes describing fiend-summoning rituals and the necromantic rituals of a cult called the Priests of Osybus.
OOC:
Kar'i'nas, give me an arcana check

"Just as I suspected. A regular Blood War lover," remarked the Gith as he rifled the contents of the shelves.
OOC:
Based on his assessment, he will procure the more juicy/expensive tomes.

"Got some magic scrolls ‘ere if anyone wants ‘em" calls Skip

"Strahd is the local ruler, a great man. He dwells in a castle called Ravenloft, not far from the village," Lunora says, almost mechanically.
Sep 6, 2020 6:55 am
Skip turns to Lunora and raises an eyebrow at her proclamation
Sep 6, 2020 5:32 pm
"Great man huh? Tell me, what else do you know of him?"
Sep 7, 2020 12:33 pm
Kar'i'nas, after studying them a little more, you realize that there's no way any of the magic in these books would actually work.

Lunora, Rose knows nothing more about Strahd.

"Just a lot of Clueless drivel," grunted the gith. He looked over at the elf and remarks, "This Strahd have any more minor lords like your dad?"

"An’ where else might yer parents ‘av hidden anythin’ that might be useful to us?" the gnome eagerly asks, emphasising the word useful
Sep 8, 2020 1:18 pm
OOC:
Rose doesn't know anything more about any potentially useful items. She also doesn't know about who else might be aligned with Strahd, although judging by the letter you read it appears that Strahd didn't rate their parents highly in any regard

OOC:
Skallagrimm doesn't rate their parents very highly either

"well then, best we ge’ ourselves down to th’basement then". Skip heads back up to the attic to open the hidden door to the stairwell
Sep 8, 2020 3:59 pm
"Who has the letters we recieved from the burgeormeister? We thought one was a forgery didn't we? Are there any similarities between the fake letter and this one from Strahd?"

"Skip is right. We should proceed to the basement." Lenora doesn't even bother looking to see if anyone follows her.

"You don't know what's down there." Skallagrimm whispers from the corner of the room "YOU.....DON'T....KNOW"

"Let's find out!" retorted the Gith as he moved toward the attic.
Sep 9, 2020 6:41 am
Skip whirls around to face Skallagrim "Listen kid, yer drivin’ my pal right now, an’ you av a lot ter say but nowt of any actual substance. Tell us wha’s down there, or be quiet n let the old man take over. He might not be useful fer much, bu’ I reckon he be a Damn sight more useful in a fight". Skip waits, glaring with as much ferocity as he can muster

"What have I told you about scaring the children." It is very obvious Skallagrim is included in that statement.
