General Discussion

Go ahead and put any thoughts you have here. This may be about what you'd like to see in the game, what kind of character you wish to play, classes, world, etc.

As of now, the current world I have in mind to play in is that of Theria, a world created by Jason Massey, DM of Dungeons & Randomness.
I put this world up as first choice because it can most certainly offer a great setting. Better suited for low fantasy, the world is fairly harsh and deadly; fits in pretty well with many of the mechanics of the game.
Most of what all needs to be adjusted from 5e down to 2e are weapons and a few other things.
Races are all there, provided people wish to play a monster race.

Only one big thing needs to be checked, as I have to look for the rules for it for 2e standards.

Additionally, I was thinking of having the party start around level 2 or 3. I figure no one wants another level 1 start on pbp.

I have no idea about Theria, but I'm pretty open to settings. Maybe nothing veering too far towards grimdark? I'm a bit tired of gritty antiheroes, but that's a personal quibble. Mostly, I'd like the opportunity to dive into the ruleset. What about the rest of us?

First thought: wow, am I finally in a game with Phil_Ozzy_Fer? 😄

I checked out this setting wiki for Theria and it looks awesome.

It's pretty cool, yeah. My off for it arrived back in Aug/Sept, and it's been a real treat knowing I own something I backed for the first time.
It's not a flashy world, and that gives it its own charm.

It looks rather interesting. I like Gold & Glory is a nice set of complete rules and all in one place. Hunting & check if you have the right books and versions is very much a pain. That world looks good.

Just had a quick look at the link, looks like it could be a fun world to be explore. I’m fully open to any class ideas at the moment, I’ll wait and see what’s on offer etc

Perhaps, indeed?! I don't know that we've ever played together, but I see you on the site often. You're probably far more knowledgeable about games than I am, so I'll be soaking up what I can from you. I'm looking forward to the game, and thank you for posting the wiki link.

Glad to hear that everyone likes the setting!

I've been looking at the new class in the book to see if it could be converted, and that'd require making a whole new class. Probably better to omit it for the time being. If anything, I'd probably just allow the closest analog, which in this case, would be Psionics.

Psionics is always fun to mix in. Sometimes as messy as mixing Magic in. Or technology.

Nice we gods and lots of groups. Don't see much on monsters, but I see indications of lycanthropes and vampires. A bit more on races would be nice.,

Honestly, I've barely played earlier versions of D&D due to the Satanic Panic so I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the most learning here!

I had to play SciFi games like Traveller in my youth. Not that that was bad, Traveller is awesome, but I always looked longingly at the D&D books. I've been playing a lot of 5e since it came out in 2015, but I miss that old school style of play from my Traveller days. So, here I am to observe and learn!

Race-wise, it's pretty much all the typical races you'd see in 5e. As far as we go, a good few are listed under monsters. Of those not really native to 2e (as in either not made yet or of a supplement or something) we have tieflings, essai (renamed warforged for legal purposes), and another race that I'm not gonna bother to make or find an alternative for. It's really not needed.
Basically, for the list, it goes:
* Drow
* Elf
* High Elf (formerly Eladrin as it was originally a 4e podcast)
* Humans
* Tiefling
* Essai
* Dwarves
* Minotaur
* Gnomes
* Halflings
* Half-elves
* Lizardmen
* Orcs
* Half-orcs
And another race I forgot needs an analog,
* Red Dragonborn (yes, that color specifically)

Okay. The monster races then are not necessarily Evil and need to be killed as in older AD&D.
Nov 8, 2020 9:50 am
Pretty much. Though, there is plenty of prejudice and racism amongst the races. Dwarves and Minotaur vehemently despise each other, humans are incredibly suspicious of tieflings. Etc, etc.

Now, out of curiosity, what would everyone like to play?

Module, race or class?

I won't answer until others have answered, since I'm not even playing in the game yet (mostly on observer status for now).

Perhaps a Half-elf rogue.

Race and class, Fox.

I'm trying to get an idea of what the party might be.

And len, you have no rush!

Odd that your using Custom Character Sheets rather than 5e ones.
Nov 9, 2020 8:53 am
Probably something big and badass. I’ll have to look at the book to be sure, read up and get a feel for the classes etc. But I’ve not played a barbarian type yet so I’d be inclined to head that direction
