Ch. 1 - It Was Supposed To Be A Simple Job

Nov 17, 2020 1:05 am
1245 AEC, 8th of Thorom, Huan
Fall has been taking its time to transition, though the breeze is certainly becoming cooler. Harvests are begining to take place as crops of all sorts are ripe and ready to be done so.
Your little grouping was assigned a simple task: travel to an abandoned fort not too far south of the settlement of Winterhaven, in the Ten Thousand Horns region. The cartographer that hired your services isn't offering much: only 25 gp each. However, as hazard pay, you are permitted to loot anything left that is there. Why you required their permission, you have little idea.

You began to your little "quest" northward from the region of White Wolf Valley, from the city of Overdale. Currently, you all are about two days out from there, and about a day and a half from your destination.

Stretching out a crick in his thick neck, popping a tense muscle, the minatour, Sokolov, standing an imposing 8 foot tall, taking in the scenery, and the party he is currently travelling with. He huffs a breath out of his bull nose, seeming eager to make headway in their journey

"The day is delightfully fresh," Saer thinks to himself while relaxing on a mossy fallen tree. "That sharp cool air is a joy," he mutters to no one in particular. It makes the trek they're making that much more enjoyable, not that thing shave been particularly unpleasant so far.

Moloh looks out over the ripe bounty ready for reaping. A Druid made good coin to ensure that crops made it to this time of year. Good money, and good work. Nurturing a field, and guiding it in growth. Her sickle sits on her side, calling to her. She’d set to work on the reaping right now, if she wasn’t already being paid to complete another task. She draws in a breath of the fresh cool air, and feels her cheeks become rosy in the cool. A fine day for walking.

Awesome, now we have a nice picture! Depending on how busy I am tomorrow, which is unfortunately likely, I'll try to post. If not then, then Friday.

After taking some time to rest, your party moves on up the road.
As the sun glides in the sky, putting the time to about 3 o'clock, the wind picks up a bit. The tall grass around the road sways and waves with it.
It's been some time since you've last seen another person on the road. The last you recall was a small caravan coming down from Winterhaven. They stopped briefly to repair an out of place wheel; a task you assisted with and were thanked for with a few extra trail rations. They spoke of a rumor that the leader of Winterhaven, Lord Padraig, is putting up a reward on finding a missing person. Unfortunately, the caravaneer didn't get much info about who went missing and suggested asking about it if they stop there.

Half an hour goes by and it seems that the grass is becoming agitated by the wind. Or, maybe, it's something else?
OOC:
First rolls of the game! I need everyone to make a wisdom checks to see if you recognize what's going on in the grass.

Wisdom (13)

Sokolov sees the movement of the grass, raises his snout and sniffs deeply, trying to pick up any scents in the air as well as visuals

Oh wow, add a 0 onto that, and that would've been just the funniest thing ever :p
Sokolov and Moloh are taken by the tall grass as it waves to and fro.
Saer, on the other hand, recognizes that the agitated patches are actually moving towards their trio. Something is in the grass!
As the enemies wading through the grass appear, the party is surprised by a group of seven Kobolds attacking in broad daylight! They snarl, bark, yip, and yap! A few of them are wielding slings, while others with clubs are at the front.
Unfortunately, they do not look like they can be bargained with.
OOC:
Now, for the sake of brevity, would you guys prefer to roll initiative, or would you rather I roll each time to keep things going?

DM rolling initiative has my preferred method. To keep things more concise!

OOC:
i prefer dm roll initiative too. It works really well

OOC:
I'm not partial for initiative. I would lean towards whatever keeps things running smoothly, but allows for maximum efficiency.
"Unexpected visitors," Saer says as the assailant reveal themselves. "We are not a very intimidating group, if kobolds have the audacity to attack an armed group of travellers."

Giving a snort of derision, Sokolov scraps the ground with his right hooved foot, stomping to punctuate his point "Then we just have to teach them the error"

Moloh arms herself with her wicked curved sickle. Wordless, she watches the grass shake with foot fall. She readies herself.

One of the kobolds at the back lets loose what can only be described as a war cry. The others around it bounce with excitement before four of them charge the party! With their clubs ready, they swing! Two of them at Sokolov's bovine legs, and the other two assault Saer!
Meanwhile, the three that hadn't charged load small stones into slings and began hurling them at the party. As they fly, one flies in the direction of the bullman, while the other two are on a course to strike Moloh!

For totals:
Sokolov took 10 bludgeoning damage

How the one that had the better AC was the only one hit, I cannot fathom.

You guys can make your attacks now.
Dec 15, 2020 3:30 am
"Are you ok? Will you need assistance?" Saer quickly asks the others. Brandishing his club, he steps toward the kobolds to strike, "this has been a poor choice of action," he says.
